No I don't think there was an overlap with Richard Norton, pretty sure I'd forgot about his Neighbours character by the time he arrived.

I did read an interview with Craig McLachlan where he said he signed with some agency in order to become a Hollywood star but if that didn't work there'd be a part on Home & Away for him so that's what happened. There's a UK soap called Eastenders and they introduced a character called Grant Mitchell around the same time Craig McLachlan was appearing on UK screens.

I feel Jim Robinson was the Tom Fletcher of Neighbours. The often heavy handed head of the family. Jim was occasionally compared in the media to Den Watts too from that London soap.

Max Ramsay and Alf Stewart. Although Max was more fiery than Alf, and less sympathetic, both were pretty fiery and feisty.

I can definitely see that as early years characters, and perhaps that was intentional. In the later 90s and 2000s, I saw paralells between Alf and Lou Carpenter. Both owned mutliple businesses and both had hearts of gold despite other dominating personality traits (Alf being grumpy and hot-headed, Lou being comedicly dodgy with his money-making schemes). They both also had a best friend who they had a long history with - Donald and Harold - who provided a sense of calm and morality to balance out the other.

Other viewers of Neighbours and H&A have said about the parallels between Alf Stewart and Max Ramsay in the first years of both shows, and one even hoped there was a soap crossover where Alf had a fight or heated altercation with Max. And of course, Lou Carpenter later took over as the "Alf Stewart" of Ramsay Street, with their more staid pals Don Fisher and Harold Bishop keeping them in line a bit.

Leah and Vinnie and Drew and Libby weddings both were bit unusual weddings and happened in early 2001.

Scullys and Sutherland family members had similar personalities with both Rhys and Joe being over protective and  bit rough around edges and mums Shelley and Lyn both being typically perfect mother trying to be best friends with there children and oldest daughter Steph and Dani being involved with bad boys and Flick and Kristy rebel middle child and Jade and Mitchelle baby child both being unsure where they fit in life.
