Parallels between H&A and Neigbours

No I don't think there was an overlap with Richard Norton, pretty sure I'd forgot about his Neighbours character by the time he arrived.

I did read an interview with Craig McLachlan where he said he signed with some agency in order to become a Hollywood star but if that didn't work there'd be a part on Home & Away for him so that's what happened. There's a UK soap called Eastenders and they introduced a character called Grant Mitchell around the same time Craig McLachlan was appearing on UK screens.

I feel Jim Robinson was the Tom Fletcher of Neighbours. The often heavy handed head of the family. Jim was occasionally compared in the media to Den Watts too from that London soap. 

Max Ramsay and Alf Stewart. Although Max was more fiery than Alf, and less sympathetic, both were pretty fiery and feisty.

I can definitely see that as early years characters, and perhaps that was intentional. In the later 90s and 2000s, I saw paralells between Alf and Lou Carpenter. Both owned mutliple businesses and both had hearts of gold despite other dominating personality traits (Alf being grumpy and hot-headed, Lou being comedicly dodgy with his money-making schemes). They both also had a best friend who they had a long history with - Donald and Harold - who provided a sense of calm and morality to balance out the other.
