It was an odd decision to move the counter/service area to opposite side of the kitchen too. I imagine it either gave them more space, or the producers just wanted to change things up a bit.

All the house sets were quite muted in comparison.

I do think the move of the counter was to allow for more places of conversation, and it made the diner bigger. The early 90s diner only really had 2 sections of interaction, the boots or the centre table. Moving the counter added additional places of interaction with Ailsa / diner workers at the counter, the front right booths, the front centre tables and the back left booth, plus the kitchen.

No wonder Irene quit the Diner but I do wonder if Irene had stayed at the Diner would she taken over Diner after Ailsa dead and become business partners with Alf as Alf become business partners with Leah after Ailsa dead and so if Irene was still working at Diner then maybe Alf might business partners with Irene instead of Leah and then Alf eventually sells his half of business to Leah.

I think Diner suited Irene better then school administrator and just like I don’t think school administrator suited Pippa ether and if Pippa stayed I think she would taken over drop in centre like Shelley Sutherland did as after all we would more then likely wouldn’t had Shelley Sutherland character if Pippa had stayed.

Shelley would likely be in a reduced role as a colleague and we'd only get a glimpse of her home life in the event with only the girls being regulars.

I think Dani/Kristy /Jade and Brodie would simply just been foster girls living with Pippa  or Rhys Sutherland being single father and paired up with Pippa .

Rhys would likely be played by older actor.

The actor who played Rhys already looked about 60, and that was before he moved to Summer Bay.

Maybe all the partying in his footy days took its toll plus with those three daughters of his. Surprised he didn't bald ala Jim or Philip on Neighbours😁

When Rhys had his 40th in 2002 I thought he  look old enough for it to be his 50th.
