Or part of the Sands Resort complex!

During Alf and Ailsa's dating period, they discuss going out for dinner at "The pub", but it is never seen.

We'd often see characters like Alf and Lance and Martin drink in their own home, but never out. I guess with so many teenagers, a bar/pub location wasn't needed in the early days.

That's probably the same Boozer Les Smart drank in before he ran off with Doris (not to mention his son's 50gs)😁

Said Pub was also mentioned when Alf threatened to blackball L&M from thre store after their treatment of Nico.

Had Salt been around at the sands it would have been called the "Oyster Lounge" and been far more upmarket with Brett breathing down staff's necks until a mutiny kicked off.

There was also an off-screen deli or café which was mentioned when Blake was going out with Rachel, the red-headed trainee hairdresser. It had closed down so she had to go to the diner with the lunchtime sandwich orders.

The diner was a great location for the younger characters, but I always thought the Alfs and Fishers of this world looked out of place in it. The diner that replaced it was even worse. I'm surprised the producers went for a set that was so cramped.

Don never really hung around and was usually there in quiet periods and was mainly having coffee and reading the paper. And as for Alf "What's the world comin' to when a bloke can't have a flamin' cuppa in his own wife's establishment?"😂

Poor Don didn't have anywhere to go that wasn't infested with students from his school :D

As for Alf, any time he stood still for more than 0.00084 of a second, Ailsa asked him to look after the diner for half an hour.

Having rewatched the classic episode, the late 90s diner set almost hurts my eyes because the decor is so bright and busy. I really don'know what the producers were thinking at the time...

It's true - would Fisher really have dinner at the diner, even casually, when it is frequented by so many students. Dropping in for a takeaway lunch or coffee, but he wasn't really the sort of person who would eat dinner there on a regular basis when it seemed all they served were burgers and chips. I guess you could argue it from a point of view of him supporting Bobby's and Ailsa's business.

To which Ailsa would always reply, "Oh Alf"

It was an odd decision to move the counter/service area to opposite side of the kitchen too. I imagine it either gave them more space, or the producers just wanted to change things up a bit.

All the house sets were quite muted in comparison.

The late 90s diner looks like somebody vomited a shell suit all over the set. I assume they burned it down to put it out of its misery.

The whole scene was hilarious! Colleen's face was a picture, aftermath wasn't so funny though.

In fairness, they served Nachos and Salads  too!😁 and the odd Jaffle😂

The old Diner was looking a bit behind the times (at least to folks) So they decided to outbling Bonza burger in the "ours is bigger" game.

I think Bobby would have winced at first, laughed and eventually leaned into the late 90s design.

I wonder what Bobby would've made of the Beachside Diner which came next? I always thought it looked too small and poky, but I assume that's what the producers were going for.

No wonder Irene quit the Diner but I do wonder if Irene had stayed at the Diner would she taken over Diner after Ailsa dead and become business partners with Alf as Alf become business partners with Leah after Ailsa dead and so if Irene was still working at Diner then maybe Alf might business partners with Irene instead of Leah and then Alf eventually sells his half of business to Leah.

I think Diner suited Irene better then school administrator and just like I don’t think school administrator suited Pippa ether and if Pippa stayed I think she would taken over drop in centre like Shelley Sutherland did as after all we would more then likely wouldn’t had Shelley Sutherland character if Pippa had stayed.
