Tulip Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 Weren't old episodes of Home and Away shown on a digital channel? I can't remember what it was. It was something like UKTV or Living TV or something like that.
Stone_the_flaming_crows Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 I'm sure they were on LivingTV a few years back. I remember re-watching episodes with Shannon and Selina in.
Si-Co Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 I'm sure they were on LivingTV a few years back. I remember re-watching episodes with Shannon and Selina in. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, Living TV repeated most of the episodes from the 1988 season through to (about) the 1998 season. They didn't show the first few weeks, for some reason, deciding to start off with the storyline about Carly's 'attack'. ITV2 also repeated some 1999-2000 episodes during the time the show was off the air (2000-2001). Not sure why; surely they were effectively promoting a show they had lost to a rival network?!
ste Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 They needed something to fill up the schedules and Home and Away was lying around in their archives.
Stone_the_flaming_crows Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 Apparently there isn't any problem putting the email I got on here so it's below: Dear Correspondent, Thank you for your recent e-mail regarding the Home and Away Omnibus. The terms of our broadcast licence have recently changed and we must reduce the number of programmes that are acquired from other sources. We have chosen to remove the acquired programmes that attract the least number of viewers. Unfortunately, the Home and Away Omnibus is one of these; it is unlikely it will return to our schedules. Nonetheless, we have logged your comments for the attention of all relevant Five personnel. Thank you for your interest in Five.
Dan F Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 I was under the impression, well I know as it was in an industry journal, that five were allowed to class H&A as their own product due to the amount it pays towards the production costs? Either they've cut back on the money, OFCOM have raised the boundary, or there's something else going on.... I wonder if the guidelines apply to five as a broadcaster or whether it's for their individual channels? If it's for individual channels then they'd be able to put the omnibus on one of their new digital channels - it's been said they're putting H&A on their new channels anyway so I would assume that that is how the guidelines work.
Tamxxx Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 Weren't old episodes of Home and Away shown on a digital channel? I can't remember what it was. It was something like UKTV or Living TV or something like that. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I dont have those channels, but i think it was shown. I think they show Neighbours on UKTV Gold. I wish they could show old episodes of HAA on that channel.
ste Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 Oh we all know they never give the full story in their repsonses to emails.
Stone_the_flaming_crows Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 At least they did respond. That is something I wasn't expecting.
ste Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 I once emailed them asking if they would ever buy the rights to the early years and they replied saying they don't have the rights to the early years
