Are Five the right people to show H&A anymore?

I agree with Super Poster. I wish channel 5 would move Home and Away to the 6.30 slot and keep up with the weekend omnibus. I wonder why they stopped showing it? What worries me is if they cancel it altogether. Is it true that they no longer show the 6.30pm episode the next day but continue with the story without repeating.

I think that life in the UK is more fast paced than Australia. Every night is a night to go out.

And then at the end of a long hard week you just want to stay in.

Evening screening times on ITV:

MOST REGIONS:

5.10pm

Exceptions:

CENTRAL:

6.30pm, switching to 6.00pm in the early 1990s.

BORDER:

6.30pm

TSW:

3.25pm, moved to 5.10 when Westcountry took over the channel in 1993

THAMES & CARLTON LONDON:

6.00pm

All regions switched to a networked 5pm showing in March 1999.

The lunchtime show depended on which region you were in. Originally most showed it at 12.30pm, until the ITN News moved to extend its coverage during the First Gulf War. At this point it was 1.20pm. During 1992/3 most regions went for a 1.15pm showing, Central showed it at 1.45pm.

A networked 1.25pm showing came in in September 1993, moving to 1pm somewhere in the late 90s... I believe some regions may have gone for 1.30pm though - possibly Scottish and Carlton London.

It was shown every day with the exception of Bank Holidays and Christmas. The odd sporting event also took it off along with a short Friday-dropping period in 1998, to bridge a dangerously narrow gap with Australia.

Sorry to being this up again but I was reading through the thread.

Granada showed it at 6.00pm originally, before the local news at 6.25pm. It moved to 5.10pm sometime around 1995.

I'm hoping that doesn't happen! But if you look at Five's most viewed shows for the 05/02/2006 week HAA is doing OK! They shouldn't cancel it all together.

1 CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION (TUE 2102) 4.49

2 CSI - NEW YORK (SAT 2110) 2.81

3 HOUSE (THU 2201) 2.78

4 CSI MIAMI (TUE 2200) 2.73

5 LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT (SAT 2210) 2.45

6 HOME AND AWAY (FRI 1800) 2.31

7 HOME AND AWAY (THU 1800) 2.12

8 HOME AND AWAY (TUE 1800) 2.10

9 HOME AND AWAY (MON 1800) 2.06

10 PRISON BREAK (MON 2159) 2.06

11 HOME AND AWAY (WED 1800) 1.98

12 KILLER INSTINCT (THU 2103) 1.64

13 WHITE FANG 2:... (SUN 1601) 1.64

14 50 MOST SHOCKING MOMENTS IN COMEDY (FRI 2104) 1.44

15 HOW TO BE A PROPERTY DEVELOPER (TUE 2000) 1.42

CSI seems to five's top show. House is new which is probably why it's getting so many views. I don't know what the heck this Law and Order show is. So HAA is like 5's 3rd/4th most popular show.

After another bout of insane political correctness sabotaging the UK's airing of the 4000th episode, it has to be asked, given that the treatment of Home & Away by Five this year has been nothing short of shocking.

Should it move onto a Digital channel? Channel 4? The BBC? Do ITV deserve to have the show back - after all it rated much better on ITV than it's ever done on Five.

Editing the show for the most pointless reasons, and inconsistent editing too ("pissed" is fine, "tosser" is not?), along with dropped episodes, lack of promotion, and most worringly, showing no interest in Campus (as was; in it's H&A spinoff form) - a move which has essentially caused Headland sink to rock bottom. An H&A spinoff would have aced it.

Nobody watches it on Five - a channel responsible for showing much worse then they feel the need to remove from Home & Away. Porn anybody?

Five don't appear to want to be behind the show anymore, in spite of the fact that they don't have Family Affairs to big up anymore. In spite of the fact it's constantly in their Top 10 rating shows?

Just compare the amount of publicity and hype that took place on and off air between the 20th Anniversary of Neighbours, and the unmasking of the Summer Bay Stalker - both episodes aired on the same day, remember?

Now compare the amount of publicity and hype that took place on and off air between the 20th Anniversary of Neighbours, and the 4000th Episode of Home & Away.

I personally find that rather worrying. Other major storylines in 2005, which included the 2004 Olympic Cliffhanger along with the best part of the Psycho Sarah storyline, the Stalker, the Plane Crash, KK's departure, recieved no hype or promotion.

Even off air it's had none - although admittedly the Olympic Cliffhanger did get an appearance on the front of a TV mag in a little box.

The lunchtime show has been lumbered with a massive signer taking the picture up. Why not a "Press Red" option? They did it on The Farm, a show responsible for showing people tossing pigs off. I thought tossers were banned from Five?

What do you think? Unfortunately it's on Five and that's that (they have a permanent contract with Seven - why Seven?) but if you were the boss what would you do?

I'd personally like to offer it to Channel 4... what do you think?

Can't agree more with you... Yeah give it to channel 4... But i don't see what time slot the can show it in?

God no don't do that! They would be forever messing it around! They woudl edit it as well, and what's more it would definitely go off over the summer for Big Brother, and then again for Celeb BB. Would be awful. Also they wouldn't have a good timeslot for it. They would probably end up not showing it everyday...... :o

It should stay with 5. Like Noni said it's one of their best shows, I can't see them cancelling it. Family Affairs was axed, I think, because it was failing. Also it was getting increasingly ridiculous. HAA is still good, getting better.

What time was it on ITV at?

It was at 6 pm

To be honest we are better of with H&A, being on channel 5, and staying there, even though they don't really promote it, and the cuts scenes we have from this site. There is to much competition for the slots on channel 4, Itv, BBC 1. And afer a period of time the new channel will axe it, and we want have it at ALL. So as the saying goes, we are better with the devil we know, well in this case we do.

Yeah it was originally on at 5.10pm where I am, then it moved to 6pm for a long time, then for the last couple of years back to 5.05/5.10
