MR200SX Posted October 2, 2005 Report Posted October 2, 2005 i can barely remember who he was but i remember in about 1998 or 99 there was a brief episode or two when one of Irenes male friends bought his boyfriend to Irenes house.. (you should have seen Irenes face!!) I cant remember much else but anyone else remember this episode? And why dont they have more gays on home and away?
Krazy Karl Posted October 2, 2005 Report Posted October 2, 2005 Because there really isn't that many open gays in country towns. Just look at Strange Bedfellows
Libertin Posted October 2, 2005 Report Posted October 2, 2005 Home & Away is mainly watched by families. Having a main gay character would cause an uproar of protests and the show would suffer from a loss of ratings. Most of the country is pretty "conservative" when it comes to these things. Producers would never allow anything that might compromise the show like that. Can you imagine how loud people would protest if Hayley ended up with a non-caucasian character? Notice in soaps, black people go with other black people, never with whites. It's a sort of unwritten rule. Same applies to "Gay" characters. Look at how much pain the show "Buffy" suffered from having Willow being gay. Many protests and so on and so forth. As long as the film industry stays conservative in Australia, things will stay the same.
Home_and_away_princess Posted October 2, 2005 Report Posted October 2, 2005 They had the Christopher Fletcher storyline when he fancied seb that was quite funny.Love abs
Libertin Posted October 2, 2005 Report Posted October 2, 2005 Yeah. My point. Gay characters in shows like H&A are only there to cause some sort of trouble and be in the background. Imagine if Robbie and Kim were a couple? You'd see reports on Today Tonight, and other shows of the like. And H&A would probably have to go in the 9PM slot. Sad, but true.
Home_and_away_princess Posted October 2, 2005 Report Posted October 2, 2005 I think if they had gay couple it might intrest the show up.It also might teach people about how gay couples arent that different to Hetrosexual couples. Its just they like thse same sex.Love abs

Many protests and so on and so forth.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Protests?! The only protests that happened about Willow turning gay was the fact that they killed Tara and put Willow with a butch lesbian. The protests lasted for a few months when the storyline first started and the ones doing the protesting were the hardcore Oz/Willow shippers. Yes I know that was a little off topic but I had to comment on that

I'm just wondering though if it wouls survive there though, or would it have to be brought back down to the 6pm slot, probably would. I just wish the censors would stop flaming cutting bits that they don't need to cut. Whilst surfing the net, i have come across clips that have been cut off episodes that have been shown, and honestly, if these were left in, i bet the audience wouldn't bother. The stuff that went on in these clips, i have heard on Loose Women in the afternoon. They are cutting things which don't need to be cut. I don't know, paranoid censor crew

ste Posted October 2, 2005 Report Posted October 2, 2005 Ugh, not another gay character thread. I'd hate to see a gay character on Home and Away for two reasons: The idea of having a gay character simply for the sake of having a gay character is just wrong. And Home and Away is a show that can't even say the word "rape" when having a rape storyline! I dread to think what would happen if they tried to do a gay storyline properly. As for Buffy, from my point of view it got more and more popular as the series went on so having a gay character couldn't have had that much of an effect. You only have to do a search on google for Buffy to find hundreds of Willow/Tara fansites.
