adam436 Posted September 14 Report Posted September 14 Sheila Kennelly who played original character Floss has passed away, aged 89. RIP and thanks for all the early years memories. 4 Quote
Jamie! Posted September 14 Report Posted September 14 Oh, no, that is so sad to hear. I always loved Floss. I think she's one of the most underrated characters on the show. She's warm, fun, humorous and gregarious. And Sheila Kennelly played her superbly well. RIP, lovey. Quote
j.laur5 Posted September 14 Report Posted September 14 Rip Sheila Kennelly. One my favourite original characters always like her better then Celia or Colleen and Morag. 1 Quote
c120701 Posted September 15 Report Posted September 15 Sad news, of course post Sally it was unlikely she’d return, but she always fit in well during her 00-08 returns. Quote
James Martin Posted September 15 Report Posted September 15 Another of the OGs leaves us. I loved her appearances on and off through the 2000's. Vale Sheila. Quote
Homeandawayfan. Posted September 15 Report Posted September 15 (edited) RIP Sheila. Floss was one of my fave H&A characters of all time, and was similar to Marlene Kratz in Neighbours, and of course, Moya O'Sullivan later had a guest role in H&A. Edited September 15 by Homeandawayfan. Quote
cymbaline Posted September 15 Report Posted September 15 RIP Sheila. She lived a long life and I hope it was happy and healthy. What surprised me was how young she was when she played Floss. I'd always assumed Floss was a pensioner, but it looks like Sheila was only in her early fifties in 1988. Was Floss meant to be an older lady? 1 Quote

She's not much older than Roger Oakley, but portrayed as being a whole generation older. I'd say Floss was meant to be older than Sheila though, probably around 60 when the show began. She also played Bruno's mother in Kingswood Country, despite only 12 years age difference between them. Sheila is also remembered to an earlier generation of audiences as Norma Whittiker in Number 96, which anyone in Australia can watch for free on Brollie. Does anyone remember what Floss was doing during her return? Was it ever stated where she was living or what she was doing with her life, or would she just show up? Quote

Back to the Bay states she was still in the circus, at least in 2002 & 2004, I presume the same in 2000. She didn’t mention it in 2008. 1 Quote
Homeandawayfan. Posted September 15 Report Posted September 15 I think Floss was about late 50s to 60 in 1988, she wed Neville in 1949, as in 1988 they had their 39th wedding anniversary in a May 1988 episode I think. I think Floss was born about 1928/1929. Nev was probably a few years older, Floss said he was "60 odd" in a 1988 episode. Quote
