Back to Home & Away and it's actually highly unlikely that any credit cutting was regional.  It's well known that Thames, later Carlton, would play the lunchtime showing out to the network.  All regions then had to record the episode off the Thames feed, which they then individually played back in the evening.  So there's no way the credits could be edited in London, but not elsewhere.  Plus, by the time the credit cutting happened, the lunchtime showing was fully networked.

Thanks for this interesting information.

Still not been able to determine the exact episode where ITV started cutting the credits but working on the assumption that it was done nationally.  I have 1303 (Bobby's death) from both HTV and UTV with cut credits and also remember seeing a clip of it from Central with them cut.

There was an incident in May 1999 where HTV Wales seemingly dropped the evening showing (and possibly the lunchtime one too) to air coverage of the Welsh Assembly elections and then aired an extended recap before the titles at the start of the next episode.

I managed to check the listings for this.  The lunchtime showing was dropped, not the evening one.  The coverage ran from the end of GMTV to the start of CITV.  This Morning etc. didn't air in Wales.

Thanks for checking this and for clarifying this.

BBC1 did a similar thing with Neighbours on 2nd May 1997 the day after the General Election.   My tape with those episodes has the episode from 1st May 1997, then half an hour or so of news coverage (with Tony Blair featuring prominently) before that day's Neighbours episode recorded from the evening repeat.    Does anyone know if ITV did a similar thing with H&A that day?

Unsure.

Blair's victory was not unexpected either; his majority was secured well before 4am so Buckingham Palace would have been ready to go so that The Queen could swear him in.

It's likely Home & Away went out after the lunchtime news.  I know that in 2001, UTV opted out of CITV for local coverage, but 1997 was before devolution.

The real question is actually the aftermath of 1992 which was genuinely too close to call.  Neither party was expected to command a working majority that's for sure, so for Major to (just about) win his own mandate was a suprise.

EDIT: I've looked this up!

Friday May 2nd had no lunchtime showing.  The evening showing was billed as "Home & Away Special: The Summer Bay Musical."

I only have listings for Carlton/LWT but London viewers saw this at 6:10pm, after an extended ITN Evening News.

So it looks like there was no episode that day.

1992 was evening only.  Thames/LWT saw it at 5pm, with an extended news at 5:30pm.

Thanks for taking the time to look this up. The "Home and Away Special" that aired on 2nd May 1997 sounds intriguing.

Seems that in 1992, ITV did the same as what the BBC did with Neighbours and only aired it in the evening.

I've heard suggestions there were a couple of instances in 1998/9 where the full length credits were shown due to ITV editing a significant amount of content (and aparrently that happened once or twice with ACP too).  Heard suggestions that only certain regions did this though and possibly not on both showings.  Can anyone recall which episodes this was?

There were instances at that time that without advertising the show only ran to 18 minutes because so much was cut so it's quite possible the full length credits were restored to buy back some time.

I saw a site from that era that's now no longer online where the author lived in a crossover of Central and Yorkshire and claimed that the two regions occasionally edited episodes differently.  I don't know how true that is.

"Specials" shown over Christmas had full credits.

Once again, thanks for some interesting information.  I have a few episodes from around the late 90s where the episodes seem to only run for about 18/19 minutes.   I guess that editing might have explained why.
