Irishbraxton Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 I’m struggling with the show at the moment it’s a chore to watch and quite dull at the moment, there just seems to be no energy about the show it’s all very flat, I’m at the point where I half pay attention to an episode as I am not too invested in half of the characters. I hope it does turn around as I still have love for it as I am a long term viewer. Quote
pembie Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 (edited) I don’t rush to watch it now it’s very slow with some rubbish characters l think Some of the their more serious stories Mac and Levi having a baby Remi feeling lost cheating on Bree end or are written quite badly I thought Edited January 23 by pembie Quote
Irishbraxton Posted January 23 Author Report Posted January 23 (edited) Remi has outstayed his welcome three years for a character like him is long enough I’m at the point where I’m not bothered if I miss an episode, I like Eden, Abby, Lacey, Dana, Cash, Sonny, Mali, JP and of course Alf, Leah and Maz as the three of them are old school H&A. I’m looking forward to this new character Holden as his actor was in Neighbours as Richie Amblin and he was a popular character despite being a guest character he can act aswell. H&A needs some new characters that are not bland and will revitalise the show as you can see on screen currently that it’s stale and stale is something this show should not be. pembie Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 I find Alf and Leah very one dimensional these days Remi is ok and Eden Cash John is very good They need to get rid of Tane though his very boring now Quote
hward Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 Honestly, I almost didn't bother to come back to watching this year, but I have only because there's a very small number of characters that I actually do like an enjoy watching - mainly Dana, Sonny, John, and I like the Fowler sibling dynamic. Remi has stayed too long and should have gone with Bree. Tane should have gone a long time ago as well. I know people say that Cash should have but I like that he's got married and - for now at least - seems to be sticking around as it's better than the endless merry-go-round of relationships that other characters get stuck in. But other that this, yes, on the whole I do agree with you about the show being boring. I think the problem is that a lot of the characters that are here are unlikeable, or have become unlikeable because of the storylines they've been given. Quote
CaptainHulk Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 Leah's just become very wearing. Thinking 1992 Sophie or 2009 Martha Jr levels. (From a UK perspective) Quote
Revealed Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 The season finale and aftermath are always a low point for the show. I think the cast is the best it's been in a long time so keep the faith. Quote
adam436 Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 I think a big part of the problem is that the majority of the cast are interchangeable cookie-cutter characters and it's largely relationship dramas. When was the last time we had a stand-out character like Gypsy, Vinnie or Brax? Someone who will still be considered an icon in 20 years time! I know we had those generic interchangeable characters at times in the past (to name a few - Brodie Hanson, Natalie Davidson, Jude Lawson, Liam Tanner, Mitch McColl, Casey Mitchell), but they were few and far between and were less noticeable in a wider cast of strong characters. They also generally didn't last long. These days, it feels like the majority of the cast are like that, and they seem to be staying much longer than they probaly should be. Having said that, weeding out the two-dimensional "boring" characters won't make a difference unless the writing improves. 1 Quote

I've no issue with people staying longer than the three years. The writing if the problem. Even if they leave within the three years, they're just replaced with a clone with similar type of storylines and bad writing. I do wish the show would acknowledge its history and bring back past characters but that would also be pointless if the writing is poor (although often a return can be used very well to enhance a storyline). I would like if the show got new writers...but am worried it could be worse and they'd cut too many characters. Tane was one of my favourite characters and I talked about how I feel he's one of the best characters they show has introduced in a long time. However, he started going downhill after Nikau left... breaking him with Felicity, pointless and endless love triangles with characters that have no chemistry and never ending, his kidnappings etc. They should give him the family or introduce more family rather than bad love triangles and squabbling over Archie. James Martin Posted January 24 Report Posted January 24 I'm not finding it too bad at the moment. I got back into it for Irene's departure, but I've stayed hooked. I may feel differently when the Brax and Ricky stuff hits the UK. To not bring back anyone to write Lynne out but then pull this stunt, complete with a location shoot, seems a bit off. Which isn't a reflection on Steve & Bonnie. Steve especially who for me was a standout part of The Newsreader on ABC/BBC. Quote
