I am unsure as to where to post this as this is my first post here.

I can't find out more info about the new opening titles...it seems they were shown with Xander in Australia but not in the UK. After Xander and Rose left, the opening titles were shown without him and Rose.

But now it seems the opening titles are gone now from Channel 5 in UK. I am in Ireland and watch this on Channel 5, not RTÉ due to subtitling problems. Is Channel 5 censoring the opening titles? Back to what ITV has done with the closing credits. Has anyone been in contact with Channel 5?

The episodes are created without the extended opening titles in place, and it's down to the individual broadcasters to choose whether they use them, or keep the short opener as it is. So it's not a case of 'censoring' them, rather just not taking the time to edit them on.

They're only used in Australia on occasion.

I know am gutted that they have disappeared but I thought maybe it's to do with air time since channel 5 are running a competition at the advert and that runs for a good min or two

I wondered if it was more for the benefit of 7+, as sometimes it can take time for a stream to get up to speed and you don't get HD pictures for the first 10-15 seconds.

Hence we've seen a sort of resurgence in opening titles generally after the trend to not have them at all in the late 2000's.  H&A ditched theirs around the time Lost was hot property.

The titles are on the start of today's episode on streaming at least.

It’s interesting to see the episode length on the 5 app as 35 minutes. I checked listings and 5 has the show airing for 35 minutes, 5 Star is 30. Is it just an extra 5 minutes of ads? 5 Star used to have more ad breaks than 5, maybe it’s switched?

Not sure.  Almost certainly due to ad break structure, but H&A runs for, what, 21-22 minutes at best?

Australia have three internal breaks and no external ones.  5 proper has one internal.  5 Star and Streaming always have two internal.  Streaming also has two breaks either side of the show.

EU rules dictated you could only have one internal break on half hour shows on Public Service Broadcasters and I believe OFCOM have uplifted that locally since Brexit.  That's why there's more internal breaks on 5 Star, which isn't a PSB.

In the ITV era it wasn't unheard of for it to have a 25 minute slot, especially once the end credits were removed (Central's teatime showing at 6pm did this to allow the local news to start at 6:25pm to beat [East] Midlands Today on BBC One) due to the big difference in ad minutage between Australian and British networks.  British rules have generally been relaxed over time, however, bringing us closer to what the Aussies have had for some decades now.

And on BBC One, Neighbours could fit into a 20 minute slot at lunchtime.
