Yes it was Tanya, we finally found that out in 2021 when Mac went 'missing' briefly and Dean was reluctant to call Mac's mum himself.

Now we just need to meet her!

Huh. You are, of course, both quite right: I even found the note I made at the time, which I obviously forgot to look at because I forgot we knew...

Third introduction between Harper and John in as many days. ? Though it does seem John may be right.??

Great scene of Mali taking the surf though he must have been a tad nervous, wondering how his balance would be, Dean was like that after he got the all clear psychically  from  his docs, it was the matter if he was ready mentally, but he smashed it.?‍♂️  Bit of a let down for Xander though, he's lost his job, couldn't Mali keep him on for the kids starter programmes?  How many calls did Mali make to Rose?

I don't think she meant to freeze Mali  out, she was very distracted, it was his mum that got her thinking about her heritage after all.  She did make it up to him later though.

Cash made the most ? comment to her, she's a cop why doesn't she do what she would normally do if a puzzle/mystery came up?  She's got info and facts to work on,  getting part of the way there, found out where her mum went to uni, when she dropped out and looking up people in her year.  Xander was right, she is a  rubbish liar.  Is Rose older or younger than Xander?  I think I read on here Yvette, as we now  know her as, was pregnant with Rose when she got together with Alexander Snr so it might have been him who decided to call Rose Rose. Him already having a daughter called Jasmine.

I can definitely see why Rose wants to know, not wanting to bring race into it, but she would have realised she didn't look like her (half)brother or other kids. She may have asked as a kid, but got shut down, and kids soon learn to stop asking awkward questions.   It's likely it's always been in the back of her mind, but Victoria talking about her roots  brought it back to the surface.  It may be bad news, dad wasn't a good 'un, even dead now, but it's better than forever wondering.  Probably the old 'to protect you line' but she's an adult now. she's an adult now.   Hang about wouldn't she have needed her birth certificate to join the police or get  a passport, was her father named on that or was it blank?   I wonder if Xander knows more than he's let on before?

:offtopic:Going back to Harper and it's pure trivia,  when she and Cash were by the Coffee Cart this black guy walked by, then we see him later again passing Cash & Harper and he sits down with a woman at a bench.   Nothing to do with his colour btw, only not often we see an extra so soon after they cross a scene.

You make a very good point though because, sometimes, even with inclusivity drives etc. you can end up feeling even more isolated, I knew a girl at school who was bullied because one side said she was too dark, the other too light, but also sometimes having non white heritage can sometimes leave you more susceptible to conditions etc.

Yes, Dad might be a wrong'un or dead, true but agree, the wondering is probably harder to bear and in Xander's defensiveness I think he missed the point entirely, it isn't about personalities as such or even genetics, it's just having the whole picture as it were.

Alf's episode count this week:Three, then he left town.

Xander was pretty hard to like in this episode. He seemed to be deliberately missing the point even when Mackenzie tried to spell it out for him, instead trying to paint Rose as betraying his father by looking for hers. The point isn't how great a dad Xander Sr was, the point is that he wasn't Rose's dad. (And if Jasmine were here, she'd probably have a few things to say about Xander painting him as the best dad ever. But fortunately for him, we're pretending she doesn't exist these days, otherwise someone might ask him "Well, if the family you grew up with was enough for you, why did you leave them to go chasing off after your half-sister the moment you found out about her?") Anyway, Mali proves to be a better support and Rose seems to have got a clue already. Confirmation of my theory that it was Kirby that Mackenzie wanted the board for, not entirely clear why she's changed her mind. Because Kirby has other things to worry about right now?

So, yeah, Harper isn't being entirely honest with Irene, but she does seem to at least believe she's on the side of the angels. She seems to be pinning an awful lot on expecting Cash to clear Dana's name, which she may even realise judging by her expression at the end.The whole set-up's a bit strange: Maybe it's my age, but Harper seems to look and sound like she's in her early 20s but is possibly meant to be Cash's age, while Dana seems physically older but acts younger. Maybe Harper and Cash bonded over having wayward sisters...except, oddly, neither of them actually seem to know the other's sister, even though they were close enough for Harper to know where Cash lived!

And wow, Leah actually appeared somewhere other than the Morgan house!

Not a bad week start of some interesting looking stories away from characters I don’t really like anymore

Like I say Harper and Dana look interesting but having Dana hide out with her makes me think that Harper knows more and it’s not just Olly framing Dana for drugs but something bigger that they are hiding Plus it’s given Irene a story Plus Cash needed his own story away from Felicity and Tane I think

Rose looking for her father is kind of interesting but I did think it was quite silly that the first black guy she came across in the photo with my mom was her dad I mesn theres loads of black guys in the world

Xander was very hard on Rose, yes Alexander Snr did bring her up as his own, but he's not her biological father, something he couldn't be expected to understand.  He knows his root, his real roots, Rose doesn't. In real biological families,  you know who you may take after, be it granny, granddad from both sides, habits, looks or  talents they may have had which you have inherited.  I'm going to drag the coloured aspect up again. There could be a medical history that she doesn't know about. It's like being adopted you could be perfectly happy in  your 'family' but it's not really yours. Rose only knows her mums side of the family, well I'm guessing she does.  Xander Jnr also thinks Rose should tell their mum and  used the old 'if she doesn't he will' threat'.   Mali was a much better help even steering her into the, as it happened, the right direction.  Yvette may have always closed the conversation about him down when Rose asked when she was little but she could have said something, even if it was a  lie. Maybe have said your daddy didn't want to know anything about you when I  told him I was having you and left. That would have satisfied a young girl curious about her daddy. Well we know Xander Snr wasn't that great a daddy  seeing as neither Rose or Xander Jnr knew about Jasmine  oops said her name . ??? until his Will was read. I think he told he was a widower but did  Yvette know about her?

How come mum  has never come to the bay to see Rose and Xander or do we thinks she may do so now?

It was a big assumption of Rose's that this guy - Samuel Edwards -  is her dad as he's the only Black guy she's seen on her mum's Uni social media site.  If he was Yvette's tutor he'd be breaking rules wouldn't he if had got involved with her, yes she was an adult but he would still be in a position of trust.  Just as well the uni is on the internet,  imagine how hard it would have been to trace her mum's uni history before PC's?

I'm guessing Mac won't be needing  the board for Kirby if she's going to the city, she's going to be pretty busy.

Yes - shock, faint, horror? Leah was at the Diner albeit briefly.

There isn't a lot Cash can do, except look at Dana's file, it's another force's case so he can't just wade in.  One of those  back stories that do randomly pop up about errant sisters.  Maybe Felicity had met Harper or even Dana and vice versa, just never been mentioned before, until a plot line for them comes up.?   Dana didn't seem to have as much faith in Cash that Harper does.  Just how long can Harper keep Dana hidden - OK Harper said Irene is  out for most of the day so they won't be bumping into each other but as Rabbie Burns said 'the best laid plans of mice and men' and all that.

I said the situation with Kirby was very difficult and I don't think there's any right or wrong answer but I feel ultimately she's made the right choice.  As she alluded to, they've effectively been taking risks their whole life.  Going solo is probably more of a risk than the safer option of sticking with Lyric but the rewards can potentially be far higher.  Fair play to Remi for recognising that he didn't help matters.  I felt he was wrong to act unilaterally (even though that was partly due to the band not being managed at the time) but I'm not entirely convinced that made much difference.  Even if things had been plain sailing, Kirby has given the impression that she's bothered about not being the center of attention, but that won't be an issue doing this on her own as it will all be about her.  I did find it quite amusing how Eden reacted and Remi had to stop her going for the keyboard.

Good to get some Rose/Cash screen time, without them talking shop.  Like some of the other posts have mentioned, Xander's attitude towards Rose wanting to find her biological father has been really annoying.

This stuff with Harper is frustrating.  I really didn't like now that John is not being treated like crap by Alf and Marilyn, he's gone right back to being annoying again, prying and immediately suspicious of Harper with very little to go on.  However, he's right about her.  Don't think Harper letting her sister stay there (given that she's on the run) without Irene's knowledge is fair to Irene.

Looks like we're going to get a reaction to Harper from Eden on Monday.  I would like to see something from Felicity as well and am interested to see if she and Harper actually know each other.  Although I guess this whole thing kind of masks any reaction from Cash with regards to Kirby leaving.

I'm going to give John the benefit of the doubt and assume he wasn't really stirring between Cash and Eden. I can see why Eden is concerned, and it is a bit remiss of Cash not to introduce her to Harper (especially when he doesn't even know she's babysitting Dana), but ultimately it's not Cash's secret to tell.Dana continues to come across as the less mature sister.

Well, a matter of episodes after Cash points out it's illegal to run a check on someone without cause, Rose does exactly that! It looks as though she's at least come up with a reason why her mum's being so cagey, although the cat's out of the bag now. Unless she had some sort of pay-off a la Dean's dad? Xander was a bit annoying again but it seems Mali's words hit home.

OK very confused.com  I even re-ran those scenes several times to make sure I hadn't misread what I saw.  Samuel's DOB on his driving licence was 28/2/1972 BUT on his marriage certificate it was 9/3/1972 and his wife's DOB was 28/2/1972???  Crumbs, can you really find all that about someone via their driving licence, scary.  It did 'say' on his marriage certificate Samuel was born in Cape Town but on his driving licence it was 'said' he was Australian, he must  become a naturalised Aus at some point. Seems Rose's assumption was right as mum put the phone down on her when she mentioned Samuel's name thus confirming her 'fears'.  Apart from the fact Samuel was Yvette's tutor which although not illegal but the fact  he had a fling, one night stand, affair with her is unethical and be against the uni's rulings, he was also married.  Unless, of course, it wasn't a consensual relationship and he'd raped her which would be one very good reason for her not saying anything.

Xander, once again, came down on her like a ton of bricks, but Mali managed to get Xander see it from Rose's point of view that it had nothing to do with him, their dad or their mum it's about Rose!  It must have worked as Xander was ready to listen, rather poignant her telling Xander that when she was younger she went through in her mind a whole lot of countries  her father could have come from and she seemed pretty amazed it was South Africa.

John wouldn't be John if he wasn't annoying at times, they all can be.  He does blunder in but you can bet your bottom A$ he'll be gloating like a good 'un when he's proved right, well sort of.

That Rabbie Burns moment nearly happened quicker than I thought it would - twice - Cash just turning up at Irene's and Dana having to duck back in Harper's room, then Irene coming home unexpectedly while Dana was having  a shower and Harper had to think up an excuse very quickly as to why the tap was running.

Cash is a spot - again - also from what I could gather Dana didn't know Cash? - trying to keep Harper's presence under wraps though why who knows - and finding out what he can about Dana's involvement with dodgy Olly.  Very odd the city cops not being willing to let him have the case notes, is there something more going on, an undercover sting on Olly's dealings?   Dana is being a dolt, putting it mildly, trying to contact him, is she being as honest as Harper thinks she is?

Then there is telling Eden about her, John knows she's around as does Irene but she, his girlfriend, doesn't.   OK she's been quite pre-occupied with all that is going on in the band and Kirby but even so. That old ? you never mentioned this 'old friend' before, especially when it's a woman or man should it be a girlfriends old  male friend, but do you mention all the friends you have known when you get together with someone?  He's just arousing Eden's suspicions not being able to tell her about Harper, but what is the harm of him introducing his old friend to his girlfriend, after all Harper's just on holiday isn't she?   Eden's tying herself in knots about Kirby and ignoring her calls as she doesn't know what to say to her.  But Kirby won't be seeing it like that, she's not a mind reader.

My wondering about the copyrights of the songs Kirby wrote have been decided it seems but not a good outcome for Lyrik.

I kind of feel like Justin should have picked his battles here. Kirby announcing she was going solo was going to happen sooner or later, and it seemed like Justin had already come up with a strategy to handle the announcement, but for some reason he decides to focus on delaying the inevitable, got Forrest's back up and triggered a rather extreme response.I'm rather dubious about Forrest's ability to enforce copyright on songs Kirby wrote for Lyrik, but it may well come down to who has the best lawyers.

I'm kind of wondering how Harper and Dana got themselves in this situation, because Dana is coming across as a very hard person to help. From Cash's description, it sounds like the police did a very lazy investigation and just pinned everything on a convenient suspect. Irene announcing her granddaughter is heavily pregnant with twins was a bit of a "Wait, what?" moment given the only granddaughter explicitly identified is Luc who's clearly not old enough, but we have seen evidence that Fin has a daughter, presumably born shortly after Paul and Mark, which would fit. It was a shame Eden wasn't in the episode, because the dinner would have been a good chance for her and Harper to meet.

Rose, Mali and Kirby discussing their heritage was a nice scene, but they probably should have shown more consideration to Xander, who was clearly uncomfortable and still trying his best to be all right with his sister potentially having a whole other family. (And...we're still not mentioning the fact the shoe was on the other foot when they came in.) Driving to Samuel's house in the middle of the night was pretty much the worst way Rose could have handled it, so probably best that she turned round and came home again.
