2023 Season - UK Episode Discussion

There were some quite emotional scenes from all involved over Kirby's decision, with Remi, Theo and Justin all trying to see her point of view while desperately hoping she'd choose them. In the end, it's a decision that hasn't sat well with her, as it means letting her friends down and giving up a huge part of her life for the sake of her potential happiness. Mackenzie did a good job as a sounding board. Leah's reached the point where not only is she not in many episodes, she isn't in the ones she does appear in much. I don't know if, as I speculated, there are issues with Ada's availability at the moment, but we had that odd bit last week where she disappeared off to Yabbie Creek even though she was in both episodes.

So, Felicity's little truth bomb turns out to have had some effect after all. I'm not quite sure how they're supposed to let customers know the code words without letting potential predators know what it is as well, but hopefully they know what they're doing. And a lot of good feedback on the self-defence as well.

Alf continues to be a stubborn old goat, until a rather abrupt turnaround with Marilyn.

You are so right about the 2nd Flick part, I find IRL that when things are shoved down your throat it can become like white noise and yes, one does wonder if Flick would've done this otherwise, I find that if someone isn't directly involved they tend to get more ears as their doesn't seem to be an ulterior motive if you catch my drift?

I wonder with Alf if he's feeling kind of exposed by it all, sometimes confessing things like that can make you eager to brush it under the carpet again; just because you speak out doesn't always mean you're at ease with it but people often seem to make the assumption.

I find Kirby sanctimonious and petulant at the best of times but I did think this really was a bit of pot/kettle situation...I remember when Bob the Snob had similar ideas and plans, admittedly that's all they were in hindsight but hey-ho, she was doing the 'band loyalty/abandonment' squealing and handwringing yet now it's her turn she very much has the 'stuff you, I'm better than you' vibe that he had.

Oddly it was Theo who seemed to have made Kirby's mind up to leave, if staying would make her unhappy it wouldn't be good for any of them.   Eden seemed to be the  one most disturbed by Kirby going, slinging her gear out and wanting to clear out Kirby's keyboard along with it, is it Kirby's or the bands though?   That was a sly move on Forrest's part sending her that mock up album cover and the gifts.  Mac was great with her, no pressure either way saying it had to be her decision.  It was cleared up the news Forrest had seen her at SALT didn't come from her which we knew.   Bob was very up himself, they were his ideas and didn't want to listen to others opinions and he just left with no plans at all and we saw how that ended.   Justin did suggest they could carry on as a trio but as Remi pointed out it was Kirby who wrote and composed the songs.   Does raise the point who has copyright for them, Kirby or Lyrik?

It has been odd only seeing  Leah very briefly recently,  she certainly hasn't been in the Diner, just one quick scene last night when she came  in when Theo was going off to see  his mum. Hope Ada is OK.

As said Felicity's truth bomb did come good.  Mac was fully on board with Flick's ideas and a good talk with the staff, who we normally hardly ever see in same place at the same time.   Nice mention that the staff should also be aware of their own safety when they leave at night.  I know the staff at JP's don't work as late as SALT's staff but attacks can happen in daylight so will they be made aware?   Ditto Irene, Leah, Marilyn and the Diner staff.  We've seen Irene be there late, doing stock takes etc.    Will we be seeing  a new cast member as Tane mentioned getting someone in who does female SD.

As we know Jeremy has pled guilty but will Flick go to his sentencing?   It may be upsetting but seeing him sent down maybe  cathartic for her.

Again nothing from Flick about Kirby's decision to leave the band and seeing as it was her who invited them to the bay on the first place and they are old mates, it does seem odd and Mac didn't mention it to her either.  When she does find out she'll want to be there for Eden.

Good that Alf's blood tests came back OK, just a hearing problem.  He may have been snappy but Marilyn was being  a bit pushy with the types of hearing aids he could have, he'd only just sat down. She could have just left him to have  a read of them so he could decide which is best for him.   I can't really see him with one has has blue tooth, he'd be more conventional, one he can turn down if he doesn't want to hear someone.  I bet Roo and Martha will be relieved, they can stop shouting when they talk to him, not the person's fault but it can be exhausting.

So, yeah, Eden took the news of Kirby leaving the band...as well as we expected. Thankfully though, it just took some level-headedness from Remi, and some damage control from Justin, to get her trying to salvage something from this.Good that Theo's involved too despite him having used up his episodes! We got a bit more of Leah, although we're still not seeing her anywhere other than the Morgan house.

John continues to be Alf's verbal punch bag. He tells Justin he's been biting the head off anyone that tries to talk to him about his problem, but apparently he hasn't bothered stopping, which makes him calling in favours from Bree a bit hard to stomach. He did upgrade John to a vague grunt of acknowledgement later on.

Of course, John's making a nuisance of himself in the storyline as Irene's self-appointed protector, no matter how many times he's told to butt out.I wonder if he's having memories of Heather? Harper seems nice enough but then we get that odd bit at the end which suggests she has A Secret.

I could understand Eden's blow up in a sense because I think she's hurt rather than angry and also t isn't about Kirby leaving, it's the dishonesty that led up to it, that's often what hurts more than the actual deed but also, a bit like Cash, whether she's having a straw-camel-back moment too. I found it sad when she folded with Remi, the tears were deep ones, Eden obviously puts great stock in her friendships especially, one wonders why; do we really know much of her backstory per se, whether it's possibly something deeper, that the others may not know, pure conjecture though.

Good for Remi taking time to listen to Eden and calming her down and getting  her  to see how it was from Kirby's point of view.  Neither may be fans of giving interviews like Kirby was but Eden is willing to give it a go. I'm guessing Theo will be with them and as it sounds like it's a radio interview he won't have to seen facing people.   Good point brought up by Remi what do they say when asked where Kirby is,  Justin suggested they could  just fudge it or say she is just away for the moment -  so not really a lie.   Will there be a phone in a Q&A spot? Though we don't know how clued up these folk are, could they have heard rumours about what is actually going on? Rather nostalgic Remi watching Lyrik's gig on the cliff top, wasn't that when Tane proposed to Felicity?  At least Remi stopped Eden throwing out the keyboard along with her clothes and she did gather them up and folded them and  put them away later.  Bree, very wisely didn't say anything, it was a band thing.

Alf may have been snappy with everyone else but it was Justin he actually listened to.  Hearing loss has nothing to do with age.    How vital is it to go and see Roo, I'm sure she'd understand if he was delayed getting an appointment.  Lucky for him someone could fit him in, he owes Bree quite a few favours now.  It was a neither here nor there greeting from Alf to John.

John's back to his usual meddling self - love him.   I can see his concern, Heather was a nice  and personable young woman and look how that turned out.   He was overstepping it by sneaking about Irene's place.?  Harper and Heather do start with the same letter though don't they - co-incidence???     It was a bit odd her making sure that bedroom window opened OK,  that got well used back in the day - memories.   You don't see many of those  sash windows.  John was kind of willing to give her the benefit of the doubt then he noticed how quickly she dashed out of SALT when the cops turned up.  Was that  a lucky happenchance she was at SALT, she's only been there five minutes.  Btw is she psychic?, she said to Irene she'd pick up some lunch for them to save Irene cooking but didn't ask Irene what she wanted.

John ended up with quite a bit of egg on his face which was probably deserved. His intentions were good but he really needed to back off and accept that he might not be aware of all the facts.Or any facts. So, Harper being an old friend of Cash points to her being more likely to be one of the good guys.At the very least, we know she was telling the truth about being a social worker!

I can understand Rose being curious about her father.I agree with her that she's got a right to know, although she also needs to be aware that the news might not be what she wants, which, to be fair, she seems to be at least partly aware of.Freezing out Mali wasn't good but at least she was pleased for him when she did get his news.Xander seemed unnecessarily defensive but maybe he's taking his cue from their mother.Who we finally get a first name for! (Now if only Mackenzie's mum had one...)

Yes it was Tanya, we finally found that out in 2021 when Mac went 'missing' briefly and Dean was reluctant to call Mac's mum himself.

Now we just need to meet her!
