I still use cassette tapes...

Alf's episode count this week:Three, despite spending a chunk of the week out of town!

Cash's storyline did seem to meander a bit here.It seemed like his apology to Tane and Felicity was played as him being in denial but then... everything was fine? Even though it turned out not to be as dramatic as first appeared, Felicity again showed her growth in being determined to help Cash, when she was completely out of her depth at him falling to pieces last year. So, yeah, all Cash needed to do was sit down and talk his plan over like a not-crazy person.

Well, that was a bit of a crash and burn for Justin and Remi, going from being blissed out listening to vinyl to getting the crushing news that Kirby is seeking employment elsewhere. I think this one needs to be handled very delicately...

Justin gets to take on the Leah/Sally role of being the person from the next generation down to get Alf to pull his head out then. As he said, best to see a doctor rather than ignoring the problem or booking a plot in the cemetery.

Love vinyl and CDs! ?

I think Bree was the right person to talk to Cash because she understands that jarring contrast than Eden or Flick, or even to some extent Tane, would; when you work in emergency and military you are always kind of wearing two hats and the pressures that come with the job can only be understood by a layman to a certain point, the intricacies etc., ( Example: my friend is a midwife, she recently took time out due to burn-out and a tragic circumstance at work someone said: How can you be depressed, nothing bad happens in a maternity ward, it's not like A&E'?  ?), as I said in a previous post the whole reaction is straw-camel-back, it strikes me that though this was the catalyst for the 'big bang' as it were, I'm not sure it was the thing, even going as far back as finding his dad in that tragic state might've been the starting point, one never knows. I think too, even all training in the world can't fully prepare you for the reality and sometimes that's missed too. Hopefully the proactivity will help and being a bit kinder to himself, he's a classic fixer.

I know Flick said the SD classes would not have helped her, true, but sadly women don't just find themselves in that situation via that, my Mum was SA'ed walking home from school for example so, even though again SD might not have helped (not that it existed as such then), Tane had a point that sometimes it can give women a sense of control, because also depending on if you take it via a discipline like Judo, karate etc, it can heighten your senses and make you more aware of your general environment day-to-day as well as helping control emotions/reactions to help deliver the defence.

I thought Justin's talk with Alf was a great little scene, I think men often still feel that they can't admit weaknesses and vulnerabilities and are also more likely to sweep it under the rug, especially Alf's generation who don't want to bother anyone and equally have memories of a time when there wasn't help or if there wasn't it didn't make very much difference, so his surprise at Bree's willingness and laying out a plan of action was very accurate and well done I thought.

Yes, I was waiting for Leah but then Justin turned up. It’s in keeping for Alf though as he was the same with his eyesight.

Leah just seem to be making cameo appearances these days.

Let's hope she doesn't become a spare part like Turner on ED in his final years.

Hopefully Kirby leaves Lyric But in saying that I don’t know how Justin knows and gets all their contacts for them really he works in a garage So Lyric are kind of lucky

It did seem a quick turn-around for Cash from being so stressed out one moment, a talk with Bree and he came down/round.  It wasn't his fault Flick didn't feel able to talk to him, it wasn't anything personal, for her it would have been like talking to her dad.  Anyways he was a lot calmer when he came back and got to put some good input into the conversation.  Flick and Cash have been there for each other, Flick more recently now she's 'grown' emotionally.

I of course don't know your friends friend Foellfan, but that was quite a crass remark of theirs - of course bad things happen in maternity wards, babies are born disabled, die. Midwives have to 'act' so controlled and calm while comforting the mums, dad and other relatives but having to hold their own emotions in, but it will affect them especially if they are mums themselves.

Felicity wasn't dissing Tane's idea but as she said all the SD classes in the world wouldn't have helped in that situation, but yes still a  good idea.  They have had  women's SD classes in the bay before, that's where Leah met Elijah who was taking them in addition to his other job as a Reverend.  Good news on that subject Jeremy pleaded guilty meaning there won't be  a trial.

One big downside with being a doc/nurse/paramedic in a small village/town you get collared by the locals on your day off.   This time Bree got asked by Alf "Do you have a moment?"   Followed on of course from his conversation with Justin about his hearing problem.  Justin has had his full share of not admitting his own health problems and he's of  a younger generation than Alf.  He had to 'act' tough  being the leader of the family so couldn't/wouldn't admit any weakness so better able to talk him round to the idea of talking to a doctor.  It took Alf long enough to admit he had PTSD a while back, that wasn't recognised then - the 50's - and certainly didn't have a name.

That was a lovely scene with Justin & Remi kicking back listening to the album - on vinyl.  Justin had been rung by Lyrik's producer who tipped him off about Kirby's meeting with Forrest, guess producers talk amongst  themselves.

Of course, Leah/Elijah can't believe I forgot that! Loved the Justin/Remi scene and their almost glazed mood! You're right H&Alover, crass was one word for it, I uttered a few others when my friend told me...silly as it sounds it still surprises me that people can say things like that things but hey-ho.

I thought it was a really nice gesture of Bree to have a Lyric Vinyl done for Remi.  I know it's meant to be used but I didn't like how the kept playing it, if only it will get damaged over time and I would want to try and keep it in pristine condition.

Not entirely keen on them doing the same thing with Cash and Felicity, what they are doing with Mackenzie and Felicity i.e. after one of them is OK, the other starts having problems.

I have found Kirby annoying as of late but objectively and reserving judgement in this particular scenario, I can see why she would want to have a meeting with that guy who wants to promote her as a solo artist behind the rest of Lyric's back.  She's got a massive decision to make, which potentially could be life changing.  The problem is, this isn't black and white because Lyric are doing a lot better now and there is potential for the band to go places.  If they were still where they were say a year ago, there would be no choice at all.

I have found a couple of episodes re the Alf thing slightly amusing but was surprised he was so humble with Bree.

Tricky one with regards Kirby's position with Lyrik. Addressing it openly seemed like a good idea at the time, but in hindsight it feels more like an ambush.I'm not unsympathetic to Eden's point of view, but loaded comments about loyalty aren't going to help the situation.Justin and Theo, and to a point Remi, are more understanding of the fact this is a dream offer for Kirby, even if it leaves the rest of them high and dry. Somewhat amusing that no-one cared about Bob quitting, but they're all lost without Kirby. Also interesting to hear that they started Lyrik in high school.

After Felicity's been making good progress, she ends up blurting out too much information in public, which had me cringing.I appreciate that Tane realised "Okay, this is happening" and ran with it, but there was always the chance of it backfiring on her.

Alf's time as a new man didn't last long, with him back snapping at Bree!

Small point Kirby mentioning Mac about them knowing about her meeting with Forrest but it was nothing to do with her, she was btw absent when they had  their meeting in SALT.    Theo's admittance he was  a jerk and apology to Kirby as we know was bad timing,  did she really have no idea what the meeting was about?   May have been an odd place to hold it, but it could be so that tempers wouldn't get too frayed and  there were no shouting matches.  I didn't realise LYRIK had been together that long, it's a long time and be  a very big jump for Kirby to take should she do so.  Bob was, as we know was a bit of a control freak, even when a vote was cast, he got the right strop if he lost so he wasn't  a great loss.  Loyalty was a big word to keep throwing about, wisely Theo and Justin kept out of that side of it, seeing as they are newbies to LYRIK.  From what Kirby had been saying to Mac it seemed she was being taken for granted, everyone assuming she'd take up the slack, do the interviews, arrange gigs etc. with little or no thanks,  got  a job to pay the rent and other expenses,  I'd get peed off.

Remi, not wanting to put a dampener on Kirby's possible new career said it isn't guaranteed no matter what Forrest promises.  What will he expect and how soon does he expect it to happen, must be  a time limit, he's, I'm guessing, putting a lot of dosh behind her and there will be  a contract.

As we know in the real world members of bands quit after being lured into taking up  a solo career and it crashes and burns.

Felicity, of course, knows nothing of this as she is caught up on this campaign. Tane, Cash & Felicity were steaming ahead with their ideas, all those posters and flyers printed in double quick time, Tane getting his insurance updated so he can teach SD classes.   I've read about this coded message on the posters bars can put up letting lone women (and men) they can alert  them by using those words if they feel unsafe. It does also alert the spikers doesn't it or am I reading it wrong?  Isn't there also something you can put in your drink which makes it change colour if something dodgy is put in it?

I'm thinking Flick was expecting instant results from people, especially women, but would she have gone for it before what happened happened to her?   Like the other women there they think it won't happen to them as they, like her, would be too savvy.  That was a typical Flick response to their no response.  Tane tried to put his side across speaking on behalf of the men folk, be they husband/boyfriend/father/brother but zilch.

Pays to know  a doc doesn't it Alf, Bree pulling strings for you to get your tests done at the drop of a hat.  Then him throwing a strop because they hadn't come back quick enough, they aren't a friend like Bree is, she can only put so much pressure on them.   Like I thought and Alf himself said his hearing loss has happened gradually which is why he didn't notice it right away.  What's wrong with wearing a hearing aid anyway not like the big clunky ones they used to supply, or even an ear trumpet!  He did apologise to Maz though, but I bet John won't get one.
