Episode count this week:Both Alf and John out of town for the whole week now. Marilyn was in two but only appeared in the background with no dialogue on Monday(as did Irene).

Another week, another character leaving town to join a loved one after a family member gives them a last minute speech telling them not to stay for them.It hit a few too many of the same beats but at least it took place in a more believable time frame. As with both John and herself last week, I didn't like Ziggy guilt-tripping Mackenzie the way she did:Asking her to speak to Dean was fine, but then she basically said that if she didn't, she'd be responsible for Dean losing Jai.

When Ziggy and Dean got together, I said I didn't mind them dating but didn't want the show to try and turn them into the love of each other's lives because I didn't think they were.Well...they're endgame. And I still don't really see them as soul mates, or a golden couple, but like I said last week, quite a few relationships are people who aren't perfect for each other but like each other enough to stay together and work at it, so I'll accept them as that, and I'm grateful the show didn't feel the need to shoehorn in a wedding for them. The flashbacks montage did have a whiff of "Let's ignore Ziggy's first two years on the show and pretend she was always with Dean" (including what I think was an out of context clip of Ziggy cheating on Tane with him!). It was nice to see their respective arrivals in town, but I'd have liked to have seen a bit more of Ziggy with her family: I do think the character worked better as one of the Astonis (especially when the whole family was there) rather than being mostly defined by her relationship with Dean Tane Dean.

So, turns out Irene was the one who doesn't know the meaning of "Keep it to yourself", even pressing ahead and talking to Justin about Ziggy moving away when he makes it clear he expects her to return to work eventually.I feel like her abandoning Theo's apprenticeship needed more than a throwaway remark, but I can understand Justin wishing her well.I'm not sure why Irene was at the farewell other than "because she's Irene": She's never been especially close to Ziggy or Dean, and felt a bit like a stand-in for the absent John.I accepted a long time ago that we were unlikely to see Amber again, but it's a shame Jai's been reduced to an offscreen presence and we never saw him meet sister Izzy, even if we're assured they'll grow up together now.(As an aside, why, given Dean specified Izzy's surname was Thompson-Astoni, has she been credited as either Izzy Thompson or simply Baby Thompson on every appearance?) I'm guessing Dean just couldn't bring himself to cross off the other days on Jai's calendar, given it can't be possibly be the same day as when he returned with it four episodes previous!

There was some stuff with Rose/Mali/Xander and Mackenzie/Gabe as well. Some of the former was fun, especially Xander's wry asides, but they don't have as much impact as the big departure.

I do find it hard to bring myself to want to watch these days the stories I find are just crap

Dean and Ziggys flashbacks would have worked maybe if I didn’t think they left at totally the wrong time when it comes to Mackenzie you don’t really leave family when they need you like Mackenzie will need Dean I thought he was all about loyally Ziggy she’s been better since Izzy has been around but I don’t think I’m going to miss her Dean was ok I liked him with characters like John

Also on a lighter funny note Ben passed the Broad shop to Dean because he was family dating Bens daughter Marley is a nice guy and everything but he is just a designer that’s just turned up out of the blue  that apparently Dean has known for years no link to Ben at all so it would have made more sense to give it Coco

Bree  I really don’t like her

A very low key farewell for Dean and Ziggy, even allowing for the fact it was short notice to get people together. I'd forgotten John was visiting Jet, but no Marilyn, no Roo?  I know they weren't that close to Dean or Ziggy but have known them both for a few years.  There could have been more to Zigg's and Dean's montage, she certainly wasn't a fan when she  first came but like some people, not all, she came to love it.  Very brief bit for Dean's introduction to the bay seeing as he came in with the RB's looking for Robbo and wasn't meant to be staying.

I'll miss Dean aka Patrick O'Connor who's role as Dean was his first role on TV and could have just been a  one dimensional character but as we found out he had a lot more to him. So good luck for his and Sophie's future.

I'm on the opposite side of the fence about Dean & Ziggy no matter what troubles, ups and downs, split ups they might have some couples are meant to be together like Dean & Ziggy. She takes no nonsense from him and isn't afraid to slap him down. They don't just 'like' each other they love and respect each other.  I guess we'll  never know now of where Ziggy, Dean and Izzy were going to be actually living.  I do think it won't be  easy sailing with Amber and Ziggy living closer together, that'll be fun for Dean, hope he's got a hard hat.⛑️

I do have give a quick mention to  Izzy and who ever is playing her be they a he or she, or more maybe at that age, they have been so good. ?  Apparently it was two baby boys.

Mac did tell Dean she is a  big girl now so giving him her blessing to go, he's not gone to the other side of the world and there are such things as phones if she really needs him. There is a lovely bond between Dean and Mac seeing as they didn't know about each other for years and coming from completely different life styles. Oh I'm guessing Karen knows about this move?   Dean told Mac Ben & Maggie were fine with her taking over the lease for the Farm House  so she didn't have to move out.  Didn't they originally rent it to Ziggy so she had somewhere to live when they left?

Saying that I do think Mac is being a bit deluded about about much care Gabe may need after his chemo, everyone is different of course and it depends on the type of chemo and how intense  it is. Though then again she may not want to admit how scary it could be and doesn't want people to think she can't cope.

Oh dear Irene did the usual "I thought you knew" line.?  To be fair Ziggy did keep putting it off, even Dean kept reminding her to do it, her 'excuse' being worried about Mac, methinks she was worried how he'd take it being as it's such short notice and there being no sponsorship for Theo. Talking of whom, odd he wasn't here as he owed a lot, being so patient with him which isn't her forte.

Mali being the guy he has come across as is willing to step up for Dean as a surrogate brother, he's got plenty of practice after all.

He made himself at home at Xander & Rose's place cooking them brekkie.  Deft mention of Bree having already gone to work.

Unless you are being funny Coco knows nothing about running a board shop let  alone a broad shop.

From what we saw in the trailer Remi has gone off the rails and reverted to type by picking up a random woman and taking her home after being dumped by Bree.

Few more than two over those few weeks, full list in our article:

Any new couple always over each other....wow.?  Amazing...

Xander's reaction when he answered the door woken up when Mali came to see Rose was amusing.

Ziggy was being pretty firm when she was telling Mackenzie about Dean leaving but I could see where she was coming from.  I'm glad Justin was so good about it when he found out from Irene.  I quite liked his and Ziggy's friendship so I'm glad she departed on good terms with him.  I did actually quite like their goodbye scene even though I was never really a fan of the Dean/Ziggy pairing.

Whilst Mackenzie might be managing with Gabe for now, I suspect she will struggle and feel isolated, especially given her main reason for being in the bay is because of Dean.

Remi was sulking like a child again although admittedly this time Bree hasn't told him what her issue was i.e. she's pregnant.  Part of me was hoping that he actually did sleep with the girl he met at Salt when I saw Friday's preview as at least it would probably spell curtains for them both but, she's going to come round when she finds out he didn't go through with it.  She should really assess whether she needs a kid right now and whether she wants the baby to have Jacob's genes or Remi as a father.

I don’t know I didn’t hear what he said maybe

I would say I hope Patrick gets cast in more roles he is quite good but it’s always the people I don’t expect that get the roles after the show

Other thing I forgot to mention is it almost felt like Ziggy and Dean's departure took everyone by surprise. The show seemed to be setting up a long-term story of Ziggy adjusting to motherhood and then it was like someone went "Sorry, when do their contracts run out? Oh, okay, they move to Queensland next week then."

Today and, again, I probably should have more sympathy for Bree but it continues to feel like she wants everything on her own terms. She treats Remi badly then acts the victim when he apparently moves on, like she told him to.That said, it was a bit disappointing that Remi reverted to type so easily, even if he didn't go through with it.

Elsewhere, we have Mali suddenly realising he now owns two businesses and receiving advice from sudden business guru Gabe, while Mackenzie still doesn't quite seem to have grasped the situation. And Xander seems to have accepted that his purpose in life is to wander around other people's storylines making dry comments.

Had to laugh at the carpet going up in the air as Remi’s lady friend closed his bedroom door. Clearly a blooper, but I guess they let it slide as it could well happen in real life had the door strip not been fitted properly.

It was a 'sudden'  decision for Ziggy and Dean so you could be right there Red, were Patrick and Sophie pre warned or was it their decision to go?

I may be wrong about Gabe  as he did have that leaflet from NDH on the coffee table.  The kind you get for tucking your appointments dates in.  Only saying that because I have read what is happening this week ???. I know last week he went to his blood tests appointment on his own  and then disappeared which was  suspicious, but he's going to need someone to pick him up after his chemo.  I'm thinking Mac isn't getting how hard it's going to be, either that or she's choosing to ignore it.

Purely selfish thought but I did like the look of their brekkie, I'd have had Gabe's,  shame it all went to waste though.

Gabe is a business man so would have juggled many a business deal in the past, he's only offering Mali advice, he doesn't have to take it.  It has just hit Mali what he has actually taken on, if he keeps the board shaping business  going on at home, he'll need someone to oversee it.  It makes sense, otherwise he'll have to go hunting down another supplier.  Then that let down by the instructor - never rains eh.   He's getting good support from Rose.

Doesn't happen many times but it really was an "It's not what it looked like" moment when Bree tackled Remi about kissing Flora(?)  on the driveway so apologies to Remi from me assuming he had jumped into bed with her.  Also another not very often occurrence a man taking a woman home and then him turning her down.  OK yes Bree had no reason to have a go at him like she did as she had dumped him but maybe in her eyes it was damned quick.  Talk about bad timing as she was going to tell him about her being pregnant.  As Rose said Remi is a big boy and she should give him more credit as to how he'll handle it.  Naturally he would have been shocked as of course he didn't know Jacob had slept with Bree, against her will, after he'd snatched her.

Rose, Mali and Xander are a good blend.  Xander got right pushed out when Flora(?) made her play for Remi.  I'm wondering if the other girls at her table dared her to chat him up.
