I seem to remember there was a point, must have been around 2003, where Kit was living on the Hunter farm on her own and ran into Scott Phillips, who I think was living rough or travelling around, and commented that it was her brother's name.

Well Floss is certainly lot more brighter then Celia and Colleen and Marilyn and Martin and Lance for that matter.

In the 7 reruns some years ago, we did get some of the start of the "Darilyn" paring before the reruns stopped in about 1996 episodes, if social media was around in 1995 we would be getting Don and Marilyn name shipped, like "Shangel".

It was quite an exciting and shocking storyline for Marilyn to fall for a man 25 year or so older than her. IMHO such things rarely work due to the sheer age gap, different beliefs etc.

Also some older people often annoying point out things to younger people like "I was teaching and married before you was even born", I find such comments belittling and bordering on ageism, as they were young once, and the people they are saying that to could be their future carers. I cannot remember fully if Don ever said such things to Marilyn but he may have done, I feel the age gap is partly why Don had regrets a couple of years later and they broke up. Age is not just a number in these cases, most people would avoid dating someone 25 to 30 or more years older than them.

There were a number of factors there (including Emily having had enough again)

I started watching H&A as a 7 year old in 1996, so I didn't think much of the age gap at the time. Norman and Emily had great chemistry and the "mismatched" element of them worked really well.

I think Emily was ready to move on. She'd had a few months off earlier that year too if I remember. I can't remember how long she was away for, but Marilyn disappeared after suffering post-natal depression. Interestingly, Emily wanted the producers to kill Marilyn off in 1999 - that would have completely changed the course of H&A history, since she's now the fourth longest-running character ever.

As far as H&A couples go, Donald and Marliyn were relatively stable. We got 3 years of onscreen before Emily quit, making them one of the longest-running onscreen marriages in H&A history I think? Alf and Ailsa, Michael and Pippa and John and Marilyn are the only couples I can think of that stayed 3+ years as a married couple. Other couples lasted longer - like Sally and Flynn and Justin and Leah - but didn't/haven't had as long as an onscreen marriage.
