Check the ep guide for accuracy. And it really is a shame this show doesn't have its first regular out-and-proud LGBT character yet. 7 probably have a conservative stance on that. Even Neighbours which was seen as "toytown" for years stepped up but they never made it the whole character's identity. I think it’s a shame also that 7 haven’t introduced an out-and-proud LGBT character. I am sure writers and producers have been more than willing to introduce such a character in years gone by. What really makes me sad is when Dan Bennett had a story lined up that included Don Fisher coming back. I wish it had played out. 7 really do want to pretend the past doesn’t exist. Quote

Don's last stint was depressing enough without him wanting to take it to the next level. Better the past be ignored than spoiled! 1 Quote

If Bennett had any true clout he would have at least given Don a positive end to his character even if it meant Don dying, which would be more dignified than what those muppets now could cook up for him. Speaking of ignored the past it's like they've dissolved all mentions of Ailsa in acid bar mentions all in the name of reconnecting Alf with wife no.1 who may as well not exist now. Quote

I'm not sure what's positive about dying? I don't know what state Norman Coburn's in these days, so it's possible the moment has passed. And I'm not sure how high up the resistance to bringing back older character is. But I think they've shown with returns from more recent characters that they can do those sort of storylines without it descending into misery porn. Quote

It would bring a realistic finality to the character if tackled sensibly and sensitively and I think Coburn would be with it (at least a few years ago). ANYTHING would Better than what he got in 2007. Norm himself isn't in bad Nick for 88 based on a recent photo but him returning long-term is off the table. 1 Quote

I mean, I guess it could be done, but Dan Bennett's pitch sounds like a deeply depressing tale bringing back a beloved character as a lonely, broken old man who we gradually watch losing the little he has left. 1 Quote
cymbaline Posted December 17, 2025 Report Posted December 17, 2025 Out of curiosity, have you ever had someone close to you die from dementia? Quote
Red Ranger 1 Posted December 17, 2025 Report Posted December 17, 2025 I can't claim that one, no. I had one or two relatives who seemed to be heading that way but died before it really took hold. I had a great-aunt who was apparently in a care home for years in a poor state but I only heard about that second hand. Quote
Light of the Bay Posted December 17, 2025 Report Posted December 17, 2025 Totally take your point Red Ranger after Don’s last appearance in 2007. However, I wish Norman could come back one last time. I guess the show is so wildly different these days as well that he just wouldn’t fit in. Indeed, I find it hard to visualise Donald Fisher in post 2011 Home and Away. 1 Quote

I will be blunt; My Nan has about 2-3yrs left, tops she's 89 but still holding strong. Her defiance is keeping her in it at the moment. Quote
