2018 Season - UK Episode Discussion

I suppose saying 'you're like a daughter/son, mother/father' comes across better on screen than grand daughter etc.  Forgive my being out 10 years on Irene's age.  I guess we'll have to do our usual suspend belief.

So we missed a week of Ty getting to know Jodi.  Would have been nice to see a few scenes of them talking. Though not all the way there, it seemed they had come a long way.   Was Ty's decision to come out to her prompted by the fact he was scared she might not come back so made the choice to get it out there - no pun intended? Apart from her being initially shocked I don't see why she shouldn't accept he was gay, but I get what you say Red about there have, so far, been no negative reactions apart from a few unseen/unheard  comments mentioned by the SBH kids. Actually I like how easy and comfortable Ty and Raffy are with each other now, she hadn't got deeply involved with him so perhaps that is why she is now OK with it.  I'm thinking Ty gave John & Marilyn the OK to speak to Jodi about his fear of her not coming back and she revealed her surprise proposition. From what we saw in the trailer John & Marilyn are being supportive and letting Ty know the decision, whatever it is, is his.

It was lovely those scenes of Raffy & Mason and her teasing him and her hug when he got that call from Dempsey and congratulating him on his news about passing his assessment.

What soap cliché number was that with the revelation that a fairly new Bay character has a secret husband/wife?  Of course there was no reason for her to mention to anyone, at first at least,  she did, but when she started getting feelings for Hunter then may have been a good time.  I had to blink when Hunter said that to Christina or perhaps he means a different kind of feeling, his and Olivia was a slow burn where this has been full on pretty quick. I  believe or would like to believe Hunter wouldn't have gone there if she had been wearing her ring and definitely Leah would have noticed. We've seen shots of her hand and no ring is in sight. Christiana and Tony obviously are still married even if they are separated and anyway what was that 'I got held up' as an explanation as to why she hadn't gone home the night before if they aren't living together? I'm supposing Hunter rented the room so how did Tony know  Christina was in there, had he been following her? It does put a whole new complexion on things, it was no use Hunter having a go at Leah as we saw him do in the trailer, she had no idea.

Another shock with Dempsey's news - not the meet up Mason was expecting!  Considering they are supposed to work in the same hospital - have I got that right - is odd they haven't run into each other at some point - even off screen. I in no way want to suggest Dempsey has had more than one bloke since her hook up with Mason, but how is she so sure it's his?  She's a nurse and I know I shouldn't make sweeping assumptions but she would know to use contraception as in the pill though of course it isn't 100% fool proof. Will be interesting  to see how he handles it and how the rest of the family reacts!:o

I reckon it would have been a lot harder for Ty to come out in say, 1998. The kids outside of the regulars would have been merciless (Sam and Will would most likely have had paranoia and made jibes at first) and Don being Don would have been moderately appalled but grudgingly accepted and realised "The world is changing" after talking with Maz. Natalie (either incarnation) would have been understanding.

(Yes, I have a dirty mind at times and have been drinking, Just the one, Officer! ?)

TBH - I think most of us probably do.  Although few will openly admit it.

I agree with an earlier comment by RR1 that Marilyn made the wrong call and it basically worked out.  But it does beg the question if she continues with this attitude whether she will make a suitable foster parent?

Re Colby refusing not to drop his friendship with Dean, is this any different to Kat going out with Ash after her 3 month probation was up?  And he even gets to keep the tat.

After Hunter felt that Christina liked him he seemed to become quite smitten fairly quickly which is what you would expect with adolescents.  So much so that he doesn't seem that affected by Olivia's departure.  I wasn't a fan of Hunter and Olivia in the end and whilst I felt their goodbye scene was appropriate it kind of felt a little too late and perhaps a similar type of breakup/closure scene would have been better earlier on rather than having them breakup then get back together.  I couldn't understand why initially Christina's husband didn't want to deck Hunter when he caught them together and whilst she is still technically committing adultery at least it's not as bad as what I thought if they both want out of the marriage.  It's a little bit similar to the Casey/Henri although it's not as bad as this is uni as opposed to high-school.  I would like to know if she would lose her job for having a relationship with a student.  I have to admit I've found the interaction between Hunter and Mason fairly amusing regarding this especially last week when Mason congratulated himself at advising Hunter to go for it.  Although I didn't really like the way he spoke to Leah when she was trying to look out for him.

It's felt like the writers changed their minds about the storylines.  We had Mason deciding that he was interested in Jasmine with no mention of Dempsey so I thought something was going to happen there (not necessarily them getting together but at least he would try his luck again ignoring Olivia's advice)  Now Jasmine's trying to 'help' Robbo.  And it would seem Dempsey's back although not romantically.  Will be interesting to see Tori's reaction to this given what happened with her last week and her wanting to have a kid.

Well, for starters, while I'll admit that Colby has made some questionable decisions, but then again so had nearly every other cop we knew in the Bay, and also he did his job to the best of his abilities, he never abetted criminals while on the force, so I'm willing to give him a pass here and hope he'll continue to do a good job with the Force.  I mean, if they allowed Kat to rejoin - who was corrupt more times than she was professional-, they'd give him a chance. I'll also give Dean points for telling him about Brett and protecting Brody and Ziggy, though you'd think he'd be a bit grateful about getiing off.

So, the charges against Robbo, even the ones he actually did, have been dropped,

What do you mean he actually did? He wasn't guilty of killing Hazel so what else was he charged of? I can't remember him doing anything illegal during this time.

I actually enjoyed the scenes with Jasmine and Robbo together, it was sweet to see her trying to get him to open up, and it's also good that they talked about what happened the night of the crash, it is kind of an important detail. Alf offering him a job at the shop was nice to see, I really like their friendship.

Well, farewell, Olivia. I found her rather annoying most of the time, but like Ash, she had her moments, and I really enjoyed her final scenes with Irene. I felt her last scene with Hunter was appropriate, while awkward, was rather decent. Meanwhile, Hunter, after all his unappreciative yelling at Leah, who was doing more for him than he deserves, has had this whole thing with Christina blow up in his face in a rather unexpected way. I'll admit, I was impressed by Christina's husband for not punching Hunter, the moment he saw him, though who could blame the husband?

While I'm glad John and Marilyn made up, I don't really see why John has to apologise, Marilyn was the one who went behind her family's back, even though her heart was in the right place. Artus did make a good point, neither aren't really impressive and don't really understand what fostering is. In any case, I'm glad Ty's getting on with Jodi, and I'm glad he came out to her and she accepted it, I'm glad they haven't forgotten it.

He violated his bail conditions, several times, and even said he'd accept charges over that in order to get off the murder charge. Then, as usual, it just got forgotten about!

So, goodbye to Ty. The show's rather fond of having a long-lost parent turn up and take a foster child whose time on the show is up away, and this was one of the better ones, as despite our brief acquaintance Jodi did actually seem like she'd be a good mother to Ty.But...yeah.The problem is what it symbolises.Fair play, the show did a sensitive and well-acted coming out story, but a lot of people wanted to see what came next and instead that's it.(Even in 2006, they had the decency to give Dean Silverman a boyfriend as they hastily ushered him out of town.)The true worth of this storyline will be judged on whether that's your token gay character done with and we don't see any more for another nine years except as jokey asides or stalkers, or whether they actually follow through and make the show truly representative.Politics aside, John and Marilyn refrain from "What do you think of as a home?" guilt trips this time: I guess we'll see whether they've learned their lesson or change their attitude according to the plot when/if Raffy next wants to go and live with her family. I did like Raffy and Ty's last moments, but it seemed a major omission not to have a proper last moment between Ryder and Ty, especially when the show made a big deal about Ty preferring Ryder's company to Raffy's: Okay, he was there, but they barely said a word to each other.

Hunter was unnecessarily bratty to Leah and I bet we don't get to see an apology.I guess he's not really at fault here, but it's hard to feel any sympathy for him anyway given that he's been so blinkered. It was pretty clear that Christina and her husband weren't separated (although they are after this!), but I guess the husband recognised who was at fault and thought Hunter was a daft kid not worth punching.I did like the little scene of Hunter and Mason morosely nursing their beers.("Christina's married"/"Dempsey's pregnant"/"You win.")When Hunter said he opened up to Christina "last night", did he mean his speech on their second visit to the motel? Because it was still the same day.

Yes, Mason.I actually felt he handled the situation pretty well, except for his scene with Tori when he came across as a bit too self-pitying.He's clearly in over his head and has no idea what he's supposed to do, but he's trying his best to do the right thing. The scene where he was trying to get his head around what the logistics of it could be, while not quite believing that he was actually having the conversation, was very well done.I wasn't actually expecting Tori to have fertility issues, looks like there could be a long road ahead of her.I'm glad she at least had a bit of interaction with Raffy, hopefully she'll be involved when the rest of the family are told.

Oh I thought the Christina story was going to be Hunter's final one so I didn't expect it just to end. Now Hunter's back to not doing much again. That scene with him and Mason at Salt Mason didn't even have to ask for his beer haha It just appeared As did Tori just appear I didn't even realise she had been away for her baby tests. There os just something I find abit annoying about her I have to say

Also I forgot, I'm glad that Mason and Dempsey hasn't been forgotten, and it will be interesting to see where they'll go now that she's pregnant.

Willow, Willow, Willow... or should it be Dean, Dean, Dean... ??

The Fixer-upper out me in mind of Brad & Beth in Neighbours way back in day, when they were looking to set up on their own during their engagement and Brad showed Beth a crappy joint in a not-so good part of Erinsborough... only Ziggy was a bit more rational!

Well, Colby's been back in the force one day and already he's found that being a police officer while being friends with dodgy types isn't as easy as he hoped.(He also appears to have given up on covering up his tattoos, despite what he said at the hearing.Because we need our quota of shirtless shots!)In a way it's a shame that Willow's past has come back to bite her right when Alf's arranged a second chance for her, but I guess it had to, despite my earlier fears that it wouldn't.And after my earlier comments on the show's tendency towards One Name Only for guest characters, we suddenly get a surname for Brett (Dwyer) when it appears he's left!

And yes, starting your married life living with your wife's parents isn't ideal, and Ben suddenly seemed to have regressed in terms of obnoxious behaviour for the episode.Brody's plan to move into the Morgans' shed is...an idea he had.Whether he can convince Ziggy is another matter.Tori's storyline continues to bubble along and Maggie seems to be more positive but not out of the woods quite yet.

Granted my mum and dad were going to move me into their summer house which I would find exicteing but changed my mind when I realised there wasn't any heating in there

But Brody and Ziggy live in Australia so is a tad warmer I guess just have to watch out for angry kangaroos knocking on their windows
