Homeandawayfan. Posted August 29, 2016 Report Posted August 29, 2016 1995 was probably the year which cemented Sally becoming a major character in future years.
CaptainHulk Posted August 29, 2016 Report Posted August 29, 2016 1705 got the award that year. Dunno if it's for the two hander or Ailsa losing it at Duncan either way, it's the same ep.
CaptainHulk Posted August 29, 2016 Report Posted August 29, 2016 Well, I'm all caught up to today's TEY, caught the back 40% of that week. I think that's the first time (1705) they put so much energy into an ep with two guests. I understand why it got the award.
Old H&A Fan Posted August 30, 2016 Report Posted August 30, 2016 Marilyn's comeback. I couldn't help but notice the slightly prudish way Marilyn went on about her skirt after she rode in on the back of Shane's bike. She wore a towel around where she was wearing her skirt when Pippa was fixing it, then Pippa said she could go upstairs with her to change. If Marilyn is trying to hide something, I'm sure it would be nothing worse than what can be seen down at the beach every day (and shown on screen). No? Was Phil not getting any because of Marilyn is a nun, so he rooted around on her and had an affair?

I thought the inclusion of Selina and Irene hanging around in the background added a sense of awkwardness and discomfort to the scene which was effective. It also made it seem more "real" somehow. It wasn't like a big dramatic showdown in a soap opera, with dramatic music and all other characters conveniently absent. It was just a normal day at home with dinner being served and suddenly this discussion happens. I liked it. Yeah I liked the awkwardness, I just felt like it was distracting and slightly unrealistic for them to be having a conversation like that literally over the top of the two of them, while they were eating. I would have thought most people would want to continue it in private/the yard. Brilliant to have Marilyn back! She's already brought a fresh energy to the show. I had a smile on my face when she walked out of Irene's in tears because it was so awkward, loved the look on Irene and Alf's face. Nice conversation with Sam too. I'm enjoying the exploration of the mother/son dynamic between Joe and Teresa, it's really well played and written.

(Young enough for him to avoid the big house, anyway!)
Old H&A Fan Posted August 30, 2016 Report Posted August 30, 2016 Curtis has become quite the dweeb hasn't he. He's not the cool dude who went out with Laura or loved her a couple of weeks ago I mean what business of it of his to give Joe a hard time. And Jack's gone back to his thuggish treatment of him like when he first arrived in Summer Bay. I'm glad to see Selina is being nice to him. But come on........if everyone is giving him a hard time all because of poor little sally, then is there any wonder why I have no sympathy for her. Oh and speaking of sally, her affair with Gus doesn't exactly make her look like the brainy, intelligent creature she has been made to look like ever since Andrew Warren gave her that early promotion to Year 11 maths. Also, why is it that students on overnight school excursions have to be segregated by gender? Look at the way Mr Fisher is bossing Selina around (yeah I know she was doing stupid things with Curtis, but still........) but telling Selina to stick to her own dormitory is a bit out of line. No? I mean what was she doing really wrong? All she was doing was socialising with Jack and Joe, playing cards. Looked quite innocent to me!
beau_t Posted August 31, 2016 Report Posted August 31, 2016 So happy to see Marilyn again! Emily Symons got right back into character. I remember my complete shock and delight at seeing her in the opening credits all those years ago. A bit of artistic license with Irene remembering Marilyn so well. She only popped up as a guest character (who was always drunk) the last time Marilyn was around, and certainly never got to know her or had any scenes with her - certainly not enough to remember her full name 4 years later. Still it was excusable for the amusing dialogue - "I'm a different woman since you saw me last", "Oh you are certainly are" - bit of an in-joke there? I liked the running gag throughout the episode about the flannelette nightie, culminating in Selina saying it at the end and then Irene peeking into the bedroom to make sure they were behaving . I love little Irene moments like that - they separate her from Pippa and Ailsa as a different kind of foster parent. The conversation between Sam and Marilyn was nice - I'm glad Bobby was mentioned. And it was nice to see her visit Ailsa too although it would have been good to see what actually happened there. I wonder if something was cut for time. I was surprised Selina noticed Shannon's crush on Shane - I don't remember anybody knowing about it from the first viewing. Mind you she's not exactly subtle is she? Is Shane really that oblivious? Going back a coupe of episodes, but I was really pleased when Donald told Joe that if his behavior was an attempt to undermine his mother in his (Fisher's) eyes then it has failed. Good to see Don not using it as an excuse to put Teresa down. Irene called him "hard but fair" but that's not always true - he can be pretty vindictive when he wants to be. I don't remember anything about this "camp" so it will be interesting. Just going to watch it now...
Guest Posted August 31, 2016 Report Posted August 31, 2016 I didn't know Marilyn was married once before she married Don much later but in 1995 I was living in America I moved when I was 10 and started watching in 2004 until recently. Shannon faking hurting her ankle then making a move on Shane was low I just hope Angel doesn't walk in on it and Shane shuts Shannon down. Joe is having a hard time getting around why his dad left well why his mum made his dad leave and Jack and Curtis aren't helping by paying him out all the time.

Don has a duty of care even though he is Totalitarian at times. It'd be extremely irresponsible for him to let a bunch of horny 16/17yos do the whole co-ed dorm thing. The department would have Donny's arse on a plate if he had let that happen. And Shannon ugh, So transparent. Sexy as she is, that's an Ugly part of her personality manipulating situations to get to Shane. Even the fall/scream off-screen sounded fake as. Pip's a trained nurse, For god's sake! As for Joe, he's been a douche for weeks (to Sally Mainly) but he's copped punishment. Jack is a big-ass hypocrite, He wasn't exactly on Team Sal when Joe began bullying her now he wants to play Big Brother. On the Teresa thing, I'm betting Mr. Lynch was probably a Les Smart-level layabout but had a Tom/Michael sized heart. That said Relationships don't work when one partner has to carry the other all the time and someone like Teresa would lose patience after a while. Having Maz back is great, The skirt thing was a little bit of an overreaction, she tore the side, now if the seat had gone, then that'd been understandable! Now some other women would been like, meh and kept marching on w/ the split and played it off as fashion *cough*Selina*cough*. The scenes with Sam were nice, I forgot he still had faith in Greg wanting him back (well, he did spent Xmas with him).
