Theresa's over-the-top praise of Sally is ridiculous though. Surely an experienced teacher like her knows this kind of attention is asking for trouble for the student from other students. Sophie had the same problem with that teacher who also lived at the Beach House (who was also called Mrs Lynch.... who also didn't get along with Donald.... hmmmm!)

Poor Ailsa - to be fair it wasn't great of Pippa and Michael to bring a screaming baby or Donald and Theresa to not leave their issues at the door. But 1988 Ailsa would have taken the whole thing in her stride. I forgot just how much Ailsa was losing it before the Diner incident even happened.

It was rude of Pippa and Michael to bring a screaming baby to a dinner party. They should have told them they can't make it because of the crisis care baby. They would have understood.

Yeah you'd think the teachers should know that singling out one of the other students so blatantly, to set a good example to the rest, is asking for school yard bullying.

I've wondered about this, whether the producers and Judy discussed delibertly shifting the direction of the character in 1989/1990 or if it just sort of happened without discussion. I think it's great how it's been slowly building and building though, that's really the only way they could tell this storyline

Its bullying what Joe said was really mean. He shouldnt of said it. Even if Sally was coming on a bit strong and couldn't take a hint

I keep forgetting to mention the new title sequence! The point where everyone went "Oh, Rob must be leaving", then spend weeks waiting for him to leave before pondering when exactly they'd last seen him...

So finally caught up on 1695 and the dinner party from hell.Ailsa really is stressed out to the point of being irrational by this point.Instead of taking a few deep breaths and enjoying the reduced workload, she seems to be trying to be Superwoman, turning Alf's suggestion to have a couple of friends over for a barbie into a high-class dinner party for half the town.Somewhat odd that Teresa decides school discipline should be off the table conversation-wise then proceeds to keep bringing it up again.And Donald's (slightly inebriated?) barbed remarks didn't help.

You know, I'm finding I'm not hating Joe Lynch as much as I did first time round

 

possibly because I know he gets more or less redeemed in the end.

Not that his behaviour's in any way correct and not that I don't feel sorry for Sally.I do think she overreacted a bit to the initial rejection, but then that's easy for me to say and Sally isn't the most confident of young teenagers relationshipwise. But for her to then do her best to smooth things over and put it behind them and for Lynch to instead twist the knife...that's just bullying.Actually, if you take Lynch's behaviour at face value then that really does just make him a complete a***hole. A girl you don't fancy asking you out is no excuse to bully and humiliate her, and it gets even worse if you consider that he basically encouraged her to ask him out via Jack, so if he really does think her "ugly" then that means he set her up to be humiliated. But it does feel like there's something more going on than that. He's obviously got a hang up about Teresa's "pets" and considers Sally one of them. Is that a fair description? Well, I actually don't think Teresa has built Sally up too much.All she's done is tell the class that Sally got the top mark in the assignment (which wasn't exactly necessary but isn't over the top praise either), then share the news with her guardians in a more-or-less private conversation (just a shame that Joe was listening in).But either way, this feels like a jealousy/resentment thing, that he feels like his mother is showing more affection and appreciation towards the top students than him.Not that Sally deserves to bear the brunt of it of course: She's not being shown preferential treatment and she's having to work for it.

I know Sal seems like a whiner sometimes but poor Sally trying to get away from Joe only for them to be lumped in together as Sally is failing maths or pretending too.

Jack shouldn't of made that snide remark but Ailsa didn't have to throw Jack out of the diner and fire him.

I could almost call it poetic justice I mean why did Sally pretend to fail maths? Sorry, but my sympathy reserves are a little scarce when it comes to little sally in general.
