Luigi Severus Fletcher Posted February 21, 2016 Report Posted February 21, 2016 Have you ever seen a set, prop, scene, etc in Home and Away that you just call BS on? I've seen a few things that are clearly fake. 1. The backdrops outside places (Stewart's store and Fisher's house for example) 2. Use of cartoon sound effects during scenes (the classic punch sound effect was used in the Early Years and I once heard the Wilhelm scream in an episode). 3. During the 1996 Earthquake, you could see that the diner was a set (the camera panned up the wall and you could see a black mass at the top)..
beau_t Posted February 21, 2016 Report Posted February 21, 2016 Good topic! Yeah, the shot of the Diner wall in the earthquake is a classic. There was also another time we were in the Diner and the camera panned from the booths over to the counter, but via the "4th wall"... which was just blackness. IIRC it was supposed to be from the point of view of someone standing at the jukebox but I can't remember why. Anyway it clearly showed there was no wall at that end of the Diner. I always remember being surprised about that. Josie/Amanda's flat really looked like a set. It wasn't realistic at all. In the mudslide episode a wall suddenly appeared in the Stewart house blocking the view of the front door from the kitchen. This was obviously because the remainder of the set was being "made-up" (i.e. destroyed) for the post-mudslide scenes. We don't see the kitchen after the mudslide hits, and we don't see the other parts of the house before it hits. Anyway, a bit off topic but yeah, the appearance of that wall was a big "it's fake!" moment.
Homeandawayfan. Posted February 22, 2016 Report Posted February 22, 2016 In Alf and Ailsa's house in 1994 or 1995 in a shot looking from the kitchen to the front door you could clearly see the walls had no ceiling, and you could see the dark studio walls. Breaking the fourth wall there lol.
Luigi Severus Fletcher Posted February 25, 2016 Author Report Posted February 25, 2016 At first I believed they rented out houses to film, though I saw an obvious, easy to see gap between the floors and skirting board and that made me question it all. That Macklin office looked so fake. In an episode of My Kitchen Rules from 2011, you can see Irene's stairs. And during the scene where Pippa leaves the Summer Bay house and the bay, the boom mic is seen.
Homeandawayfan. Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 In Fisher's 1992-1995 house, when the front door was opened, you could see the trees beyond was just a well crafted painting of trees. Same for Alf's 1991-1996 store, the view of the Bay from the window could have been put up in Hilda Ogden's house with 3 flying ducks on the front.
