I'm disappointed but not surprised. In a sense, we've gone back to the early days of the 6pm showing being the main one, albeit a much more low key main one, stuck on a subsidiary channel. It still won't make me muster the energy to watch on their website and sit through endless adverts.

I must say I've gotten into quite the routine in a morning watching it these last few months

Same.  I originally recorded off air from 5 before the app went HD, but now the app is HD I'm not too fussed, but I'm certainly in the habit of watching at my leisure and I've changed to watching the 5 Star pace.

I'm surprised they're keeping the 6pm showing, I still think they should air the blocks "properly" at 6:30 and leave it at that.  I don't see the point of a "first look" when it's not really the first look anymore, as the first look is really at 6am on the app. 😂

I get that too, but I imagine an app viewer is now worth so much more to 5 than a linear one because they can target the ads.

Most people are definitely catching up/streamong/recording and I suspect many will have found themselves watching at 5star pace without knowing it these days.

The highest live audience for the lunchtime viewing was 70k last week looking at thinkbox. The rest were made up of VOSDAL and time shift. A few first Look eps rating higher.

With the model hat we have had, the lunchtime showing has been the last chance to watch that ep.

What will go is having the show on a main channel for attracting people flicking through and hooking in a casual viewer. Having a stream first approach in my view needs a strong social media strategy.

I agree, first Look now feels redundant. If they take the show off 7 during next year's commonwealth games and we gain another couple of weeks on that gap, I also won't be mad. That's how they should appease us! Haha

Given that they can't be bothered to find a half hour programme to fill the slot for the UK finale (hence it not getting a 6pm showing until next year), I'm not surprised that they're clinging onto their hour of Home and Away on 5Star rather than rejigging the schedule.

It won't make that much difference to me, because I usually watch the 6pm showing anyway. When I have a day off and would have watched at lunchtime, I'll probably wait until 6pm. The real tricky one is that, when I have a busy evening, I usually record the lunchtime showing and watch it as soon as I get home. My stubborn desire to resist change is basically saying "Record the 6.30pm showing the previous day and watch that when you get home..."

Standby for them announcing an ad free subscription for the app. They’re the only one of the main 3 commercial channels not to offer one.

It’s a shame to see the show moved to 5STAR completely, but I suppose Channel 5 are following in the footsteps of Channel 4 with Hollyoaks.

Thinking about it, now Neighbours is coming to an end, I might shift from 5STAR to streaming as I usually watch Neighbours then tune into Home and Away sometimes at or just after 6:30pm

Channel 5 really need to get 5 Star in HD onto Virgin and Sky, the ITV and Channel 4 sister channels are now HD (by default) on those platforms.  I know an HD version exists, because the live feed of 5 Star on the app is HD.

TBH what they need to do is get a load of archive content on there from elsewhere within the Viacom family, or even fully merge it with Paramount+.  The ITV X premium sub is worth it as you get downloads, no ads and heaps more content.  I would definitely pay for a premium version of the 5 app if I could download and skip ads.

I really hope they do air some classic episodes or upload a selection to My5, really not sure what’s stopping them.

This is the sort of added value a premium version could offer for a few quid a month.

Just on the subject of classic episodes; I notice doing a bit of, oh let's call it technical jiggery pokery, 7+ which is the steaming service in Oz have a FAST channel of classic episodes.  I don't know how feasible that would be here (I assume more trivial for post-2000 stuff than ITV era episodes would be) but it would be cool.

I meant to ask this but with RTÉ having been in the news here in recent days with the Eurovision drama it's reminded me... have Ireland stopped with the UK or did they come off at Theo's death?
