Bloody Hell, they're going all out for Commonwealth Head Office this year, with one huge event and a few other major loose ends too, not unlike a Games or Christmas break in Oz.

To be honest I can live with a long winter break as long as Seven continue to write in a proper cliffhanger for the UK & Irish markets.  Far better to have a "they can't stop there!" moment than someone spill a coffee pot in the Diner.  Especially as we don't get big Friday cliffhangers anymore, because what's the point when it's all over the place in Australia?

When are we back, by the way?  5th?

Well it's official.......November 21st is the final ep of the year.

Been confirmed for a while I think, although looking at the Australian synopses I'm not sure whether the cliffhanger will be on 5 Star or 5 proper with 8591 mentioning a "tragedy." We'll have more of an idea when Australia airs the episodes tomorrow and Thursday.

Usually there's no 5 Star episode on the final night of the year, and it airs on the Friday night before the restart.  However, we have early streaming now so it remains to be seen how that will be managed (IE. Will the final drop be on Thursday 20th and then the first drop the Friday before the New Year restart?

Only my mention of it two pages back, and subsequently noting it in our ep guide. There's been no "official" confirmation at this early stage.

Fair enough I assumed you were in the know.  So at the moment it's joining the dots given the major Australian storyline this week?

The 5 airing moves forward to 1pm from Monday due to Christmas movies.

They're also staying on air for an extra two weeks, which means instead of coming off air for

Spoiler

Cash & Eden's wedding and Theo's fatal departure

we're stopping at a random point.  Seven must be pretty peeved they've gone to all that effort just for 5 (and by extension I assume RTÉ) to bin it off.

Also, although it says "December" on the front page (I assume "January") we're only coming off for four weeks this year, which will put us fairly close to Australia when we begin airing 2026 episodes.

Interesting if true. I wonder if this is perhaps related to the issues we were discussing earlier with the Commonwealth Games and the likelihood that Australia will be cramming even more episodes into the early part of the year. (I was tempted to wonder if Channel 5 are trying to keep it on air until Neighbours finishes, although I doubt that's much of an issue!)
