H&Alover Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 It seems to be a thing about soap characters that once they leave they are soon forgotten about as if they had never existed. I'm not going too far back, that would be too many to recall, but some that spring to mind from H&A are: Nic & Angelo Ric & Mattie Tony & Rachel Lucas Brendan Colleen Xavier The last two have only been gone a couple of months!!
~Lynd~ Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 I remember all of those lol. Most of them haven't been gone that long. Oh I missed your point. It's 2.30 am haha.Yeah I guess you're right. It usually doesn't bother me to much unless there's a reason for them to be mentioned though.
alexx Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 I agree but with characters like Lucas, who out of the current cast would realistically start talking about him? Brendan is definitely a character who should be mentioned and continue to be seen. He made Gina a much more interesting character Imo
Red Ranger 1 Posted October 11, 2012 Report Posted October 11, 2012 It's easy to forget, because I often do forget, but Gina is meant to be related to the Holdens so it's not impossible that she'd mention how her brother's family is getting on every now and then.Still, whilst it would be nice if Alf remembered he had a grandson once in a while, you would need some pretty contrived conversations to come up with regular updates as to what they're all up to.

Cor Gina had a call from Xav!!! Remembered another couple - Tash & Robbie, who used to live with Irene.
Light of the Bay Posted October 12, 2012 Report Posted October 12, 2012 Surely it can't be that hard to mention past characters once in a while? I asked Lynne McGranger this on twitter recently and she said, 'ask the writers'.
alreetlike Posted October 13, 2012 Report Posted October 13, 2012 It's always annoyed me a bit that former characters don't get a mention, especially the likes of Lucas where the rest of the family is still around and they just never get referred to. Brendan, too, as a more current example. I guess the writers don't want a situation where you get newer fans going "who?" and trying to work out if there's something they're missing. I've always liked shows that include the occasional nod to a long term viewer though.
cadyctslover Posted October 13, 2012 Report Posted October 13, 2012 Although the name of the restaurant is frequently mentioned, Angelo as a character has been completely forgotten about.
TelephotoMarigold Posted October 13, 2012 Report Posted October 13, 2012 And all of Irene's kids and former foster kids ... why did none of them visit or call when she got cancer?
Light of the Bay Posted October 13, 2012 Report Posted October 13, 2012 And all of Irene's kids and former foster kids ... why did none of them visit or call when she got cancer? I doubt Louise Bowes or the current production team are aware that Irene has children of her own. I'm pretty sure she visited Finn in the city when she received her cancer diagnosis though? But yeah, her kids should've visited?
