What's the reason for so many characters working in the Diner?

I just realised that Indi, Leah, Marilyn, Roo and Irene all work in the diner. I seem to recall when Irene was diagnosed with cancer last year that Marilyn and Roo agreed to take on her shifts in her absence but here we are almost a year later and they are still there. I think it's so lazy and it's the only place we see Irene and Marilyn interact. Also, doesn't Marilyn have her own beauty salon or something?

I know there is a lot of staff! However Indi doesn't work there anymore but she did and Sasha too!

And what has happened to Marilyn's little business.

I suppose you need plenty options for cover when it's so common for someone to storm out halfway through their shift.

Its just one in a thousand example of the script writers putting melodramatic storylines over the fundamental aspects of the show.

Its how it all lost its substance back in 2005.

Colleen left so Marilyn and Roo took her place as Marilyn can do her business part time and Roo does her own work in her business.
