cadyctslover Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Taken from another forum, a list in 'Live' magazine. It lists the number of deaths in soaps from most to least. 1. CORONATION STREET (1960 on) 138 deaths (2.65 per year) Leading cause of death: Heart attacks (33) 2. HOME AND AWAY (1988 on) 107 deaths (4.46 per year) Leading cause of death: Murders (12) 3. EMMERDALE (1972 on) 92 deaths (2.3 per year) Leading cause of death: Car accidents (15) 4. EASTENDERS (1985 on) 90 deaths (3.33 per year) Leading cause of death: Murders (10) 5. HOLLYOAKS (1995 on) 60 deaths (3.47 per year) Leading cause of death: Car accidents (7) 6. NEIGHBOURS (1985 on) 44 deaths (1.59 per year) Leading cause of death: Run over (6) 7. THE ARCHERS (1950 on) 39 deaths (0.64 per year) Leading cause of death: Heart attacks (8) Home and Away has managed to rack up 107 deaths since 1988. That is more than both Emmerdale and Eastenders, which have been running longer. They've also had 2 more murders than Eastenders, unbelievable!
jodlebirger Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Hm... Home and Away is actually first... They need to compare the shows with how long they have been running for. Murders is the leading cause of death... Actually this is alarming. And if they had compared the shows just over the last 10 years, H&A would have been far above the other shows.
Ryan Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 What's annoying is that a lot of them are so low level and forgettable deaths, apparently done to get a good promo on the Friday as opposed to telling a good story. When I looked at a list of the deaths, some I don't think I'd ever heard of.
alexx Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 All the murders have pretty much happened over the past 5-7 years.

cadyctslover Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 Yeah, I think the number of murders shows a massive lack of imagination within the writing team, particularly Penn in 2010 and Stu earlier this year. And as I've said before, in H&A deaths are often used as a plot device. sindikatas Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 Do you count manslaughters as murders?
Si-Co Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 How many of the 107 actually stayed dead?!

There's a list on the site, but it's only about half complete since it's not really been done since 2009. Wikipedia has a list as well.
Perry Posted September 18, 2012 Report Posted September 18, 2012 Do these deaths include characters like Mrs McKinnon, Sarah McKay or NDH patient #3?
