Rach81 Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 At least the 2 of them weren't dating!! (Decided I needed to upload a profile pic) It is a H&A related one isn't it? I can't tell who it is No - it's me!
Natasha Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 Well, watching Karen's downfall has been most interesting. All over the good-for-nothing Revhead. Interested to see what will happen between Sophie and David, I don't remember much of this storyline when it first aired. Poor Marilyn, I hope she changes back, we love her just the way she is.
rockstarrr08 Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 I am really enjoying these old episodes atm. I love the Sally and her finding that boy (I can't remember his name) attracted, also her annoyance when a girl interrupts every conversation she has with him. The revhead and Karen stuff I am really interested in for some reason, he is a bad influence though I know that straight off. Sophie and David look to be getting close too.
CaptainHulk Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 Ironic as Haydn would soon have a short dalliance with Maz a few years later, lol.
Red Ranger 1 Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 I've seen up to 821 and I'm somewhat disappointed with the way they've handled Revhead's return.During his last stint, he seemed a fairly three-dimensional character, who was a bad influence on Karen and not someone you'd want her to hang out with but nevertheless seemed to genuinely like and care about her so you could see why she'd be drawn to him.Now he's suddenly been turned into a one-note bad boy:There's been no mention of Julie(so we're meant to forget that he had a family), he and Nick suddenly hate each other whereas before there was a sort of grudging respect there, we're told about a load of offscreen villainy to convince us he's bad news and he's blatantly just using Karen and she's too dumb or desperate to notice. It leads me to respect the decision to write out Karen has only just been taken and subtlety's being thrown out of the window to facilitate it.Going back to an earlier point, I can't blame Alf and Ailsa for their attitudes towards Revhead but I do think they've handled things badly while he's been gone:Ailsa made the wrong call in going back on her word and stopping Karen going to the party, when she probably wouldn't have done anything and it just reinforced that she couldn't trust them, and Alf overreacted massively to the situation on Adam, who might be a bit older than her and hardly a Boy Scout but his heart's in the right place and he's better than the alternative. I haven't seen anything to dislike about David so far, he seems pretty down to earth and personable, the picture Lou painted of him before he turned up wasn't really that accurate. He is a fair bit older than Sophie but that's not necessarily an issue although I do admit Sophie isn't that mature for her age(I assume she's meant to be 16 even though I don't recall a birthday).I'm not sure if there's a double standard with regards Haydn and Marilyn, at least not from the characters, the show's a different matter. But then that wasn't the same type of storyline, it was more of a comedy of errors with two people not liking each other but everyone else thinking they did.A closer comparison could be Steven and Jennifer, where he was allowed to sleep with her despite her being a lot older than David and him being not much older than Sophie and probably not more mature.Guess you could argue either way whether that was a double standard. Disappointed that Jackie was written out so abruptly and that we never saw her again.I think Sam was referring to her abandoning him at least as late as 1998 so it's odd he never looked her up.
rachel1990 Posted March 14, 2013 Report Posted March 14, 2013 I see shapes on clothes was big in 1991. What Lou was wearing in 824 nearly made me jump. Didn't like the earrings either. Nice to see Sam get his 'wish'
Rach81 Posted March 14, 2013 Report Posted March 14, 2013 I wish they make the episodes an hour long. Back in early 1999 they played 2 episodes back to back but it only showed for about 1mth. I'd love 2 episodes a day but I'm just glad it's on full stop!

Revhead was much more realistic before, he did some bad things but he also did good things, he worked hard and well at the boatshed and treated Michael with respect, and shows numerous other signs of having good and bad qualities (and that doesn't make him evil, we all have vices). I agree with yout point about Alf and Ailsa too - no I can't blame them for their opinion of Revhead but the point is they had the same opinion of Blake's girlfriend Rachel but eventually agreed to have her over for dinner and Ailsa realised she had been judgemental. I doubt she would have come to the same conclusion about Revhead but she may have seen that he has good in him (she usually likes underdogs unless the script conveniently requires otherwise). And they could have slowly taken it from there.
Old H&A Fan Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 I wish they make the episodes an hour long. Back in early 1999 they played 2 episodes back to back but it only showed for about 1mth. I'd love 2 episodes a day but I'm just glad it's on full stop! Question is if they did play 2 episodes a day, would they edit out the closing titles of the first episode and the opening titles of the second episode, like they did in 1999? (this phase lasted from June to December 1999.
Red Ranger 1 Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 They did a lengthy run of early 00s episode here in the UK back in 2007, where they did show them in double bills and did show both episodes with full opening and closing titles. It actually worked rather well.
