Two of the best episodes from 2006 today. It's been a while since I last saw the cyclone episode but for its time, the special effects are pretty decent.

Flynn's death episode always gets me though. I must have seen it a half-dozen times at least, but every time I watch it I find myself getting really involved in the storyline. Mark Furze is a fantastic actor, and his talk with Flynn is definitely the most emotional scene of the episode. Again, even though I've seen it several times, when he says "I love you dad" I have to pretend I've got something in my eye! His and Sally's final dance is also heart-wrenching, and it's a nice touch to have them play 'their song' from their wedding day.

Just watched the episode where Flynn dies and cried the whole way through it. Think it has to be one of the most heartbreaking episodes ever in Home and Away, the bit that got me the most was when Ric said I Love You Dad

The hostage episode was good at the time, it's only looking back you can see the flaws. How did Dani seriously expect the cops outside to hear her muffled screams against all that wind and teeming rain? I suppose it would have wrecked the storyline for her to have turned the radio on sooner and got back to Leah's earlier. Why did the cops still have their sirens on when pulling up at the house? Why was Leah's place chosen as the place to hide?

Given the fact she could hear the voices of the Police and Rhys who were stood a fair way from the Palace, which also seemed ridiculous, I suppose it made sense to her.

Peter was struggling to organise a safe house, so Leah offered her house as Sarah didn't know her/where she lived, unlike the rest of the residents. Not sure where Beth went, actually. I remember Dani and Scott got extra bedding from the Caravan Park for the safe house. Irene went to the city. The most stupid thing is it actually proved that all these years, people have been walking all of the way around the house to the back door, rather than the front. I always thought like with Irene's there was meant to be direct access. If Peter had gone through the front door, Noah may still be alive.

Me too - I think it was probably the first time any of the kids had called their foster parent Mum or Dad like that.

I noticed when watching Episode 4000, that 5* didn't censor Ric's comment 'He's a tosser'. I'm surprised they didn't just play the edited version of the episode off their shelf!

I think the cyclone episodes were edited by Five when originally shown, due to the abundance of flashing imagery. Was tonight's repeat uncut or censored?

I'd pretty sure 5* have shown the "tosser" line before, it's one of the few times that word has got through. The more I think about that hostage episode, the more rubbish Peter's tactis seems:Leave a police guard on a supposedly empty house but have absolutely no-one at the safe house(okay, a marked car outside would have given the game away but why no officers inside?), respond to realising Sarah is armed by haring round there on his own without calling for back-up or even taking the officer with him who didn't seem to be doing anything else, then respond to the back door being open and everyone huddling in a corner by just wandering in going "What are you lot doing" and getting hit on the head.Aargh!

Watched the 2005 online episode, which was actually pretty good.Wish we'd seen the whole of the fire starting so I could see if the "It was the stalker wot done it" explanation really fitted, the fire did seem to spread remarkably easily so maybe there was some foreshadowing in there. The whole sequence was actually pretty effective.Scott and Hayley's bonding moment over the wedding ring and Jesse seems nicely playful here(as with Karen, how many months until he kills one of his friends?).Shame the way the Gus storyline went, I think on one level he was genuine but ultimately he did just bring Kane trouble. It is also one of those episodes where you wonder how Kirsty and Kane lasted as long as they did, talk about anger management issues.

The cyclone episode was quite good effects wise but even more so it's one where they concentrate on the characters:Jack and Martha's quiet declaration of love is a memorable moment, Robbie rushing out into the storm to make sure Tasha's all right and having to work with Jonah, Ric's determination to find Cassie and Sally itching to find out what's happened to both of them...Whilst I'm glad it wasn't too serious, Sally does seem to recover from that electric shock remarkably quickly.Odd to think this was only Rachel's second episode, she seems pretty familiar with Irene already.Matilda suddenly seems to have acquired a more grown-up look. Not quite sure what Flynn was trying to do at the end, touching a live cable with a pole seems positively suicidal, but it made me wince all the same.

Flynn's death.Leah seemed a bit wasted, all she does is speak briefly with Cassie.Flynn's farewells with Alf, Cassie and Ric were all nicely done, it feels very strange seeing Ric with really short hair again and he and Cassie are beginning to drift apart, although it'll take some months for the final death knell to sound.I think that last dance stretches credibility a bit but the moment where everyone in the house realises it's happened does actually work well.In retrospect, knowing the way she'll go over the next couple of years, it does feel like Sally's destined to end up with a 60+ year widowhood after this.

You're right Si, C5 originally hacked the Cyclone episode to shreds. I remember running the Seven version on the PC in sync with the Five version on the television whilst at Uni to detect any edits - C5 had a thing about flashing images at that time and most people on here suspected it'd get a hacking. Wasn't anywhere near as bad as the Jade/Duncan bulbs storyline in 2004 though, which made ITV look comparatively easy-going.

I haven't watched it as I always thought it was a bit crap first time round, to be honest.

You're also right that in 4000, "He's a tosser" did get cut. Again, I didn't watch it because I've seen it endless times.

The cynic in me wonders if now Dirty Des runs the show the moral high horse of the RTL days has been lowered?

At the time my argument was he didn't give a toss. By that point Flynn knew he was going to die, and therefore didn't really have anything to lose by doing what he did.

The idea that the entire caravan could become electrified was so silly, though. So the seating isn't electrified... but the floor, walls, table, and everything else, is? REALLY?!

I can't say for sure about the original C5 showing, and I didn't want it this time round either, but it was definitely there on previous repeat showings because people commented on it.

Then it must have been cut on the original showing or why would people comment on it not being cut in the repeats? :P
