Russell Webb was Series Producer from around 1994 to 2001 when Julie McGauran took over.

There's been many Script Producers during that time, and part of our planned revamp of the Year Summaries section is to try and identify as many as we can.

Thanks for the information. I had no idea Russell was in that job for so long. I remember him being interviewed in G'day Summerbay presented by Tristian Banks. Anyone remember that?

Yes that's what I mainly remember him from too  Still got those 3 eps.

A behind-the-scenes programme that ran on CITV in the mid-late 90s, wasn't it?

Just re-watching the Pilot on my Freeview+ box whilst I can't sleep. A hell of a lot of "bloody"s in it, isn't there? I always had the impression it was still quite a bad word in the 80s!

Didn't bother taping the 4000th episode since it's been on so many times, probably catch the online 2005 episode tomorrow.Which just leaves an episode that was ostensibly about Flynn finding out he has cancer but gave more focus to the trials of Amanda.Ah, paternitygate, the storyline where we were apparently meant to be rooting for Scott and Hayley to get back together and play happy families but which actually turned me against a pairing I was initially a fan of.That's possibly the main reason why, apart from what she did to Kit, I actually found myself on Amanda's side most of the time she and Scott were together.Especially with the looming presence of Evil Josh.Didn't realise they'd already switched Hayleys by that point until I saw the opening titles. As for Flynn's diagnosis, did they really have those scary red lines in MRIs?I don't think they have them now.The final scene was actually quite effective, with the music drowning out Flynn telling Sally he's going to die.Of which more tomorrow.

It was a rubbish storyline. Daniel Bennett ruined Scott. Maybe he just didn't know how to write for him, but I can understand why Kip Gamblin was so cheesed off at the end.

Scott crossed a line with me when he ripped up a letter (without even reading it) which told him the truth about the father of Hayley's baby.

I think that ties back in with the "unnatural stupidity for the purposes of plot" thing that RR was talking about before. Like, who does that?

Scott was already ruined. I remember something that Coral Drouyn (writer at the time) said about how she got Scott's character wrong from the beginning. She conceived of him as an ideal guy who was rugged and manly (working on boats etc) yet also in touch with his emotions. Instead he just came across as a complete drip and nothing more than Dani's handbag. I thought at the time it was the actor's fault, but Coral admitted she screwed that one up.

I thought it was a strange choice to show episode 4051 yesterday instead of 4052. Although Flynn finding out he has cancer provides some truly tragic scenes, as has been said 'Storyline A' of the episode is clearly all about Amanda, and it dwarfs Flynns troubles. I thought killing off Dr Alison Free was quite a nasty plot device.

The next episode where Sally finds out, is in my opinion incredible, and really demonstrates Kate Ritchie's acting ability.

I agree, the following episode would have been a better choice. There are so many emotional moments.

That has to be one of my favourite episodes for 2005 (when Sally finds out, Alf and Flynn on the beach - very emotional and well played) - the whole storyline is very well written and character based which was unusual for the time.

The hostage episode was good at the time, it's only looking back you can see the flaws. How did Dani seriously expect the cops outside to hear her muffled screams against all that wind and teeming rain? I suppose it would have wrecked the storyline for her to have turned the radio on sooner and got back to Leah's earlier. Why did the cops still have their sirens on when pulling up at the house? Why was Leah's place chosen as the place to hide?

The next episode with Hayley dealing (or not dealiing) with Noah's death was very poignant, Flynn while trying to be sympahetic didn't really understamd wheareas Alf did and was his usual wise self.

Poor Colleen she was looking forward to having Max (or Maximus as she insisted on calling him) she was really looking forward to having him stay with her. It would be interesting to see him come back and see how he turned out, maybe a hard nosed businessman or an author as he wanted to be back then.

Alf's 60th was much a much needed lighter episode. It's been mentioned on earlier posts about Sarah's appearance and yes why was she there, she never said a word and apart from the flurry when she first came in I don't think we saw her again. Btw did the scriptwriters have a thing for brunettes there were quite a few of them there? Alejandro5000 mentioned on their post about Kate Ritchie's tears when giving her speech about Don being real, well I think she may have been feeling the same way on her speech about Mr. Stewart after all he had been in her bay life since she moved there. Loved the interplay between Celia and Morag, there can't be many sisters who are so unalike as they are. The whose the daddy storyline went on for a quite a while with many missed oppurtunities for the truth being discovered. I did feel for Duncan, he kept trying to talk to his dad with Alf going off to speak to someone else no wonder he snapped at the end.

:offtopic: Alf has to be the Ken Barlow of Summer Bay, him being the only surviving member of the original cast.

I'd forgotten how hard Amanda was, though even she had her good side although it was well hidden at the time. Actually I think it was a good idea to have two storylines running, it may have been too much having it all about Flynn. Poor Bert, being conned like that. The whole whose the daddy storyline went on for a quite a while with many missed oppurtunities for the truth being discovered. I had to smile at Colleen's contribution of the picture of the Pope as part of Sally's surprise package for Flynn. The silent telling by Flynn of what was wrong with him had more impact than if we had actually heard the words.

Btw alejandro5000 I will always remember June (Rowenna Wallace) as Pat The Rat from Sons And Daughters.
