They've always been good with continuity regarding Carly's alcoholism - in 2000 when she returned for Sally's wedding she was pouring champagne for everyone but was drinking OJ herself. Whether they did actually remember when writing the scripts for both occasions, or whether it was Sharyn that pointed it out whilst filming the scene, is anybody's guess - but either way it's a great subtle touch without the need for "Oh I don't drink, an OJ will be fine" :P

Such a lovely 'wedding' for Will and Gypsy, set not long after the birth of Lily and VJ seeing how small they both still were and Vinnie obviously out on bail. Will and Gypsy seemed so happy and looked like they may be together for ever, but that's not always allowed in soapland. You know Colleen she may disapprove of people but she still likes to be involved in anything that is going on. :P Vinnie using the video camera bringing back memories of Sophie at Marilyn and Don's wedding.

The Mirigini disaster - I'm guessing the reason Kirsty was grounded was due to her drug taking? Shame no-one listened to Floss about not wearing red!!!! All those old faces, what on earth happened to Martin's hair!!!! Celia suddenly looking old, Irene with Paris her toy boy, Flynn and Sally did look very cosy. Nearly didn't recongise Carly with her sleeker hair.

RR1 - 2003 is indeed the Mineshaft disaster. Visually quite good, but in storyline terms it was a total cop-out with no real fallout. On the other hand you've got the 2004 Olympic Siege which killed Noah, spawned Eve Jacobsen in 2005 and then the barn explosion in 2006 - and it's fair to say the show's not been the same since!

On TV: Appropriately, the Olympic Cliffhanger and the second episode back afterwards (In my opinion, Home & Away's finest hour. WATCH THIS if you've come into the show post River Boys! )

I don't think there are any words that sum up how much I agree with this. I will go one step further and say I don't think any season has come close since 2004 in quality. You had quite a bit of action in the first quarter that quickly sped up into what was the finest hour. Even if you didn't like the characters involved you felt something for them (hell, I even felt for Sarah Lewis by the end). And the aftermath was brilliant because no one just moved on after a couple of weeks. My only problem with it was the hack job they did on Kit and Hayley in 2005 because the friendship they built at the end on 2004 was quite beautiful...

I will stop now because I always seem to rambling when the 2004 eps are mentioned  .

As for the other eps shown I cannot comment because I haven't had time to watch them :(

I like the subtle touches, old viewers pick up on them but new ones don't miss out by not knowing.

I agree, 2004 was great and there was quite a lot that unfortunately wasn't carried on to 2005. Even though Beth and family had moved out of Summer Bay House, there was still a big focus on her as a single mother and her family unit was a big focal point of the show. It seemed like they were almost setting up Beth and family to be the "Alf and Ailsa" to Sally's "Pippa and Michael". The 2nd Summer Bay Family, I guess. But in 2005, she faded right into the background.

And it makes me wonder, the show has many excellent actors at the moment, not only playing the elder members of the cast, but also the younger memers. You look at Beth, and you just wonder whether Clarissa House just got fed up of appearing in about 5 scenes every week, with her storylines being almost non-existant and whether people like Sonia Todd etc. will end up going the same way.

I loved the scene between Irene and Will in his final episode with Gypsy, which is very similar to the Pippa and Frank scene on the stairs at Summer Bay House in 2000.

I always see the Smiths as Irene redeeming herself to herself more so than the other kids, mainly because there were two boys and a girl, so Will is Nathan, Hayley is Finlay and Nick is Damien almost in Irene's mind.

I think Sonia will be ok as long as she stays as Principal, but whether Shane may feel different in a few years, who knows. I'm surprised that Ray, Lynne and Ada have stuck around.

That's an excellent analogy. I'd never thought of that.
