Something definitely feels amiss come 2000. Just watching the titles the cast seems so...random. I guess that's why they introduced such a big family in the Sutherlands, to make it a bit more family orientated but you definitely feel the cast of 2000 is very much in the shadow of the days of even 97/98. I even think Chloe staying on longer would have helped - I have no interest in Shauna, Harry, Mitch, Will, Hayley, Sutherlands etc.

The titles on the first episode had no logic at all, it was like they credited all the young cast first and then the oldies. At least the later versions had friend/family groupings.

RR, I think I made up for the viewing figures that day because I can remember the car crash end of the episode, probably switched over early to see Red, Amber, Green.

It does seem like they knew they wanted Ailsa to end up in the lake, but hadn't actually worked out how to get her there.

I know that there are some very good episodes from the naughties but I am afraid, for me now is the beginning of the end. Credits were never as good, the show from now on seem a little american influenced.

Just seeing that last 2000 ep reminded me how nobody seem to be too bothered that Ailsa had died. Apart from Alf, Shauna and Duncan. Worlds apart from Bobby's death.

And the childish drama from the Sutherland twins and Duncan and Nick made me switch off in 2001. Found it very contrived and silly how Ailsa also had a long lost daughter as well as Morag. Then a few years later Colleen also had one!

There were parts of 2000 that were amazing but the last couple of months let the year down considerably. It took me until 2002 to be even remotely interested in the Sutherlands and that was thanks to a certain Angie Russell!

They really need to do something about that corner that Gypsy crashed on - it's the exact same corner that

Dex had his accident

(aswell as a couple of others, including the drag race where Lisa died, and the school bus crash I think)

 Dan!

I really want to enjoy these 2000 episodes but the vacuous teens and Harry who is about as emotional as a bucket are making it hard to. Don't like Shauna either.

Leah and Vinnie are almost making it worthwhile though. Just so many iconic faces are gone by 2000. Losing Pippa was a blow in 98 then another matriarch (Ailsa) goes in 2000. I think if Marilyn and/or Chloe had stayed 2000 onwards would have been so much more enjoyable.

I like Shauna from that era - but I think 2000 on whole was good, particularly the first 6-8 months because we still had some of the 1999 character's storylines coming to a conclusion. Plus Lance returned for the first time since his departure, as did Greg in one of Sam's decent storylines as a teenager.

I remember particularly liking the Nash family break up and Irene and Ken's romance - they were well done. And then of course Ailsa's long and last storyline. Towards the end of the year the show was really changing and starting to become something different again.

You echo my feelings almost exactly. The naughties did indeed have some great times, but on the whole it's downhill from 2000 onwards. The antics of a far-too-young-to-be-given-so-much-screetime Jade, Kirsty, Nick and Duncan made the show feel like something that should be on the disney channel. They got it right later with Henry/Lucas and Matilda, they still used them but they used them for what they were - kids. And didn't give them adult storylines until they were a little older (although by that time Henry had been written out and Lucas brought in).

I hated the change to the underwater blue credits and I've never really liked any of the opening credits used since. Another change was in the incidental music, which changed sometime in late 2000 I think, it wasn't as promiment anymore, and didn't have the old Home and Away feel to it.

Having said that, I'd happily watch episodes from this decade over what's on air now.
