Trivia question here: Donna and Travis were apparently in the same year at Summer Bay High, but which other character who made the opening credits was in the same Year 12 class as them?

Rob?

Carly. I have Donna's first episode on a DVD somewhere, one which I've misplaced and Donna mentions that it's 5 years since her and Travis did their HSC, right towards the end of 1994. That would make it 1989. Carly started, but did not finish.

That might be the case with the dates, but I'm sure Donna, Travis, Steven and Rob were all meant to be in the same year.

I remember Steven saying he was at school with Travis but I don't think he ever said they were in the same year.So if they were in the year above him, that would make sense.

I also see 1995 as the peak, but 1996, especially the first half was just as good. There was a subtle shift once Angel, Curtis, Jack and co left.

I was just watching the 1996 revamped credits and I also noticed (for the first time) that there seems to be quite a few black extras in the background. Maybe it was a conscious decision what with Stephanie being cast that year too.

Were Joey and Liam meant to be fully Australian then? I thought they looked a bit exotic too. Joey was good-looking. :)

I'd say the peak as a mixture of 1995-1996, possibly the 300 episodes from 1700 to 2000.

Pretty much, I think, yes.We met their parents(well, I think Joey's mother had a non-speaking part in one episode)and there didn't seem to be anything ethnic about their backgrounds.(Was Liam's mother meant to be Irish?I seem to remember they went off there in the end.)

Just watched Shane and Angels's wedding ep. 1995 must be the first year I recognise the characters from my childhood, namely Selina, Shannon etc but for some reason Donna sticks out in my mind. I've accepted Jack looks like my ex and have put him as my avatar. Oh dear. <_<

Isn't that Shane?

I had this avatar but all the high quality eps make me wanna keep making avatars and I've become avatar happy so I keep changing it. Bit difficult not to when there are SO many gorgeous boys in the show. :D

Red, glad I wasn't the only one who found that music during the whole of part one of Shane's death episode too much. It was so intrusive, maybe if it had been just a little quieter. Apart from that the telling of the news was very well done. Everyone's reaction was so believable and said a lot for Shane that he had gone from tear-away to someone they would all miss. The second half was much better, Angel slipping on Shane's jacket, probably because it smelt of him, was so typical of anyone who has just lost someone and so Angel. That scene when she was telling Dylan that Shane had died was so sad, she kept it together well when he asked why he wasn't coming back, hope they didn't have to upset the little lad to make him cry. Wasn't it Roz (Shane's mum) who Donald was on the phone to?

As to Jack don't going to comfort Sally, maybe he thought she wanted to be on her own and then wasn't the right time to approach her?

As an aside it was nice to see the original owner (Travis) living in what is now Leah's house.

On a much lighter note Donald and Marilyn's wedding

Did Donald have connections in high places to warrant a more senior member of the church conducting part of the service? Was a neat idea to use the camcorder and get people's usual reactions to it, from posing to 'get that out of my face'! I see Pippa was actually wearing something more styled, looked a lot better. Marilyn's dress was so lovely. Typical Donald, getting all bossy about the way things ought to be done and who should be where. Great speeches by all, fitting that there was a message from Angel, Simon, Dylan and Shane (her daughter) seeing how much Donald had meant to her. Jesse (aka Marti Pellow) obviously wasn't a regular at that moment in time. I wonder if Lynne (Irene) decided to dye her her hair off her own bat or was it decided by tptb? It just came as a bit of a shock seeing as it was still blonde in the opening credits. Like that one of her and Maz eyeing up the guys who had just walked by.

Hope I'm not going to sound like an old fuddy-duddy but I think the mixture that they have now of old/young characters is a lot more balanced. In the episodes (this weeks at least) the younger cast seem to outweigh the older ones by quite a bit. They also seemed to change at an alarming rate, looking back it was a wonder we were able to keep up. Those who remember the 'old' Rebecca would certainly have been gob smacked at the 'new' one, complete head and body transplant, from brunette to blonde was pretty drastic!!! A lot of soaps are guilty of that, children changing you could just get away with, but fully grown adults, unless they had had facial surgery, is pushing our (the viewers) belief sometimes. I do remember they replaced Judy (Alsa) and Tempany (Selina) for a brief period and it was actually mentioned on screen. In Tempany's case it was because she was ill, nowadays I suppose they would just rewrite the scripts to fit around it.

Tonight (on TV) it's Irene's birth and the commune fire.

Watched the Chloe episode online at lunchtime.Ah, Sally, Shannon, Chloe and Selina. What more could a hormonal heterosexual teenage boy ask for?

I love this :D I honestly think 1995/96 Home and Away is possible the best looking cast any TV show has ever had. And they could mostly act too :o
