ilovehomeandaway25 Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 To be honest, my favourite has to be the 2006 one (Sally's stabbing). What's yours?
JosieTash Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 My 3 most memorable season finale are [in date order]…… 1996 …..Chloe vs. psycho Brad in the bush, whilst everyone else was Christmas caroling !!!!! 1998 …. Gypsy is kidnapped by Robert Perez !!!! 2001 ….. Gypsy gives birth to Lils by the side of the road [and accept Will’s marriage proposal] !!!!!
beau_t Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 It's hard to believe Sally's stabbing was 5 years ago! I still get haunted when I hear "Silent Night". It was used to similar effect in the 1996 finale with Chloe, which I also love. Gypsy's kidnapping in 1998 was soooo gooood at the time, but doesn't stand the test of time for me simply because we've been overdosed on kidnappings since then. My favourites would be: 1990 - Bobby's miscarraige (really sad ) 1994 finale - Christmas on the beach, Ross household falling apart 1996 finale - as mentioned, Chloe's terrifying ordeal 2000 finale - Ailsa collapses (shame about the return ep) 2002 - Vinnie dies / Ailsa returns! 2004 - Community Christmas + Noah's ghost 2006 - Sally's stabbing Not really loved any of the finales since then, although I did like the "Who is Milco?" cliffhanger in 2007 but the episode itself was rubbish.
Skylover Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 2006 - Sally stabbed and everyone thinking she had died. Was very sad especially the video 'Light Surrounding You'. 2007 - Milco written in the sand. Having said that, the Psycho Reverend plot was rubbish. I haven't been watching long enough to remember any of the other main ones. 2008,9 and 10 just slip from my mind, and the early years (88, 89) are quite understated.
-Andrew- Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 I haven't seen alot of them, so I can only really comment on the more recent ones. 2000: As Beau_t said, real shame about the abysmal 2001 return, but as an episode itself, it's great. Nice, touching scene at the booklaunch and the final scene is really quite horrifying, Ailsa staring at Alf whilst gasping for air still haunts me. 2002: Now this is how a dramatic finale is done! Charlie being shot would merely seem like a subplot (still does anyway ). Powerful scenes with Rhys and Shelley's split, Vinnie 'dying' and a shocking final scene that I don't think anybody (spoiler-free) could see coming! I love how casual Ailsa's return was played, so clever and sinister. 2004: By far my favourite episode in the 2000's. A wonderful, purely character driven finale. Lovely speech from Lance about Sal and "Silent Night" with the pictures of Dale, Tamara and Pippa Jr in shot.
Ryan Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 The 2002 finale is probably my favourite episode in the entire show. First off, the entire half of the episode is dedicated entirely to the Sutherlands and the climax of the family falling apart. The fact that we don't detour of anywhere else leads to the storyline actually building and building throughout that part of the episode. It also has some memorable lines of dialogue. I don't know if that's because I don't know watch the show as closely these days, but you never seem to get those killer lines anymore. Like Shelley's line to Rhys "No, but I'll get over it". Then the second half of the episode seems to just meander towards Vinnie's apparent return, and if I'm honest, probably contains 5 minutes of filler. But it gives the final two scenes context. I spent most of that winter (OK, exaggeration trying to work out whether there was any possible way Ailsa could actually be alive)

Must have been 1997. It was a really nice understated ending as Pippa's unhappiness with her life had been subtley building up for a long time, and had recently resulted in her overreacting to something little Chris did and screaming her head off at the poor child.

I think it would have been better had she just dropped dead, rather than the whole Shauna/missed appointment story. I mean, it gave an opportunity to get some cliche lines at the book launch, but in the end, did it add anything?
beau_t Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 I think it would have been better had she just dropped dead, rather than the whole Shauna/missed appointment story. I mean, it gave an opportunity to get some cliche lines at the book launch, but in the end, did it add anything? I think they were going for irony, that she has had this condition all these years and didn't know, and the day she misses her appointment about it is the day she dies. But I didn't like it, I thought it was silly. And Duncan saying "We didn't have time for mum to get tested so she's going back next week" coupled with Ailsa constantly nagging Alf to move those boxes, just made it cheesy and obvious what was going to happen, when it would have been much more dramatic if it had just happened randomly.
cadyctslover Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 It's such a shame, I wish I'd seen that episode. Hope C5 start re-screening their 'early' years again.
