Light of the Bay Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 I am aware that there have been a few DVD releases in the past but they are just compilations. I wonder if they will ever release a boxset of each season? I am sure that the fans would buy it so it makes business sense. Anyone know of plans for a DVD release in the future?
beau_t Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 Apparantly the legal issues and contracts with the actors etc is way too complicated for them to make DVDs. But they also said for this reason they would never repeat old episodes but now they are showing the Early Years here on 7Two. So who knows maybe things have changed. Why don't you send an email to 7 to ask them if circumstances are now different regarding DVDs.
Red Ranger 1 Posted October 10, 2011 Report Posted October 10, 2011 I think possibly a bigger stumbling block is the sheer number of episodes:A season of Home and Away would be over 200 twenty/twenty-five minute episodes and need about forty discs.I know the BBC have commented on the impracticality of releasing EastEnders(around 200 thirty minute episodes a year)and Casualty(around 50 fifty minute episodes a season)for that reason.You're more likely to get shorter runs(say, 75 episodes in a set)or selected episode releases.To be honest, though, while a lot of people on this forum might buy them, I'm not sure how well they'd sell.

Entire seasons on DVD ain't gonna happen, I don't think any reasonable person would assume it was a possibility. But as for "Best of" boxsets, back to the contracts and legal issues...
vixstar131 Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 I would love that to happen too. But the reasoning is because there are far too many epsiodes dating back 23 years worth. Also the vast cast members will make the paying of rights extremely difficult

dncllpyk Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 Since the are a lot of episodes of Home & Away each season making season DVDs would be impossible. They should make DVDs of the best episodes though like the stalker storyline. Neighbours released 2 DVDs a couple of years ago with iconic moments like the first episode when the Scullys arrived and such. Maybe H&A could release a DVD with the first episodes of each season and the the season finale.

I like them but I think they should have put episodes on them rather than short clips. They put Leah and Vinnie's wedding on there - but it would have been nice to see more episodes of other weddings. Romances was weird in a way because it was a broad subject and they couldn't have covered every single romance. I saw on a Neighbours forum that episodes 1 - 170 are to be released on dvd. They have done it with the Bill as well. I think so far they have got every episode from wooden top pilot episode to 1990. They could release the the early years. But I'd settle for a couple of best of dvds.
