And proof that Ric recognising Kane in 2008 was definitely right, as they're sat there looking at each other.

From the way you worded this it sounds like this may be some on-going debate I don't know about, but whether Kane and Ric saw each other in that episode or not, it's entirely believable that Ric would know Kane in 2008 anyway as they were both (unless I'm mistaken) long time Bay residents before they appeared on screen. Well at least, I'm sure Ric was. And Kane was around from at least 2001 and was caught up in some pretty major scandals, so it's not surprising Ric would know who he was in 2008, even if they didn't happen to be on screen together very much at the same time in the past.

It's just me and my long memory, there was a small amount of debate about it at the time.I think both of them, certainly Ric, were actually meant to be living out of town and going to Summer Bay High because they'd been expelled from their last school originally, certainly Ric was, much like Casey now.(There was an oblique reference to Ric living in Yabbie Creek in that late 2004 episode. I seem to remember Kane was living out in the sticks during his 2002 stint as well.)But, yes, like you said, they were both living in the area for quite a while and they crossed over by quite a few months anyway.

That 4000th episode and the follow-up...never been entirely sure about them.It did seem like they brought together far too many characters to do very little and then followed it up by killing Chloe only a few weeks after she came back, which was guaranteed to annoy all her fans.

I stuck my tape of that period on this week, and Chloe's return fits on the one tape, but looking back on it, six or so years on now, it's up there with the most bizarre reappearances in the history of the show, though perhaps usurped by the fact that James comes back for a few episodes a few weeks later. I don't quite know what killing Chloe achieved.

I seem to remember an interview with then series producer Julie McGauren around that time where she said something like "We'll bring back old characters if there's a dramatic story to tell with them, like there was with Chloe."Frankly, it seemed like there was about three different storylines all seguing into each other, as a fairly decent plotline about Chloe being stuck in an abusive relationship, which could have had a positive outcome, turned into her being randomly killed off just as she was getting her life back together, followed by her ex-mother-in-law-from-hell coming back and grabbing her daughter before James turns up like a deus ex machina and provides the closest you can get to a happy ending when one popular character's dead and another one's in jail for killing her.The cynic in me wonders if it was just so they could do a big "Someone dies tonight" cliffhanger without killing any of the current cast.

Yeah they could have still sent Jessie to prison for murder, Chloe and him still could have become an item, Diana still could have come back, she hears of Chloe being in an abusive relationship and demands to have Olivia grow in a decent environment with her. She was always looking for any slight excuse. Killing Chloe off just wasn't necessary as storylines go, it didn't add excitement or provide the 'wow' factor due to they way it was all told. She was treated as a guest character so it didn't work.

Though I guess you could go through everyone that's ever died and ask was it worth it.

Was there any need to kill Shane 4 months before Angel leaves?

What about when Michael died?

Would it have been better to keep Ken and Irene together?

There's a thread about Bobby as well.

I think if it creates powerful drama and long term repercussions that are genuine and real, killing a character off can be a great exit storyline. But sometimes it just doesn't sit right within the context of the show Imo.

Charlotte is a case where Imo it worked brilliantly that they killed her off in the end, even if she was about to get a happy ending. Simply because it created a really tragic circumstance and allowed the writers to provided us with some very emotional drama. It also made the character all the more memorable.

Hi, when the 2 weeks of summer break episodes were aired on C5 i recorded them all on my BT Vision box but sadly my brother thought it would be funny to delete 16 out of the 20 recorded episodes :angry2: !!!

I was wondering if any one else had them recorded and if so i would greatly appreciate if i could purchase them from you? I am willing to pay anywhere between 10 and £20 and i would be so happy if one of you were to offer those precious episodes to me.

Thankyou,

Steven Murray

Don't have them recorded (sorry), but if you're quick you can still watch some of them online on the Channel 5 website. I've watched a few that way and the quality is really good.
