Most Popular Character 2010

Whilst I wasn't expecting Charlie to be in the top 3, I don't think her popularity can be put solely down to her "sensationalist story" (though I genuinely can't figure if people are talking about Joey or Grant). I do think she's been pretty consistantly written, in the way that she sabotages her relationships, which has been something she's confronted this year. She is certainly one of the most solid characters we've had over the past year or so and she's provided us with some nteresting stories and scenes, both high profile and lower profile. I think Esther has played her pretty decently along the way too, always maintaining that slightly guarded part of the characters personality no matter what she's up to - I like the consistancy of that.

I agree with this Foxy. To me Charlie feels like an actual character, unlike some of the other people on the show who seem to have no personality traits or who are constantly changed to suit storylines (Ruby, for example). I don't know if Charlie's appeal is only down to her "sensational" storylines. They certainly did NOT appeal to me. I thought the whole Joey fiasco was terrible and I took little interest in the Grant storyline. The reason I like Charlie is because of how she hdeals with situations and interacts with other people. I love her icy demeanour and the coldness of her personality, as I recognise a lot of her personality traits in myself. It really surprises me that a character like this is so popular as usually characters who are warm-hearted or outgoing or funny are more popular, or bland characters who are part of a golden couple, Charlie is neither of these things. To be honest I don't think there has ever been anyone like her on the show before, which makes her so unique. The only person I can think of who is ever so slightly similar is Peter Baker, but that might just because he was also a tough cop.

Bland character part of a golden couple sum Charlie and Angelo up for me  Obviously it just comes down to personal opinion and I can't argue with the results however I am surprised she's been ranked so highly and to be in the top three with characters like Aden and Belle just seems a bit...like she doesn't fit in somehow. I guess I'm mainly surprised just because on this forum and all the other forums out there, there isn't a lot of support for Charlie like there is for other characters.

I'm really surprised with Belle, would have thought she'd have ranked much higher. I guess the other Belle fans didn't notice the poll at the time

^ I agree.

But i guess this poll is only a tiny minority of fans so, i don't think we can take it too seriously. I don't think Charlie has been consistently written. Her whole relationship with Angelo is a complete farce and it's pure desperation on the part of the writers that they're constently trying to ram them down our throats as a 'golden couple,' when the chemistry is lacking and neither of them can act particulary well.

...Not to mention Charlie whos gone from being her own woman to being just Angelo's other half! Like 2 completely different characters!!

Tachel scenes are so few and far between that we take advantage when a nice one comes along :P

I'm excited for the results to be released; I'm interested to know the order!

I would hardly say Charlie and Angelo are a golden couple, espeically given the reaction to them on here. There are a lot of people who seem to say "they're setting them up as a golden couple and failing" but I've yet to see anyone who likes them declaring them as a 'golden couple', or any of the madness erupting over them like we got with JM and Aden and Belle. Personally I'm very indifferent to them as a pairing, but I do find it quite interesting that it's only people who dislike them who refer to them as a "golden couple".

Regarding the shock at Charlie placing higher than Belle - I'm fairly sure there would be a large percentage of long term viewers who would be baffled that Belle ranked so highly. I think we have to remember that this is a "most popular in a given moment in time" poll, and not necesarily a "best ever".

I didn't refer to them a 'golden couple,' hence the speech marks when i posted. I am simply refering to the fact that they appear to be setting them up as one, given the obscene publicity and plugging of them as late.

I don't think its us the fans that see them as a 'golden couple' but TPTB are trying to put them forward to us as a golden couple.

The show is seriously lacking in the couples department at the moment and seem desperate to create another which can create a buzz like the big couples did such as Jack&Martha and Aden&Belle. Thats how I see it anyway.

Whoops I did. I didn't think of them as a golden couple in the way that you're saying though. I think what I meant was based on the way the writers are persisting with them for so long, promoting them heavily, breaking them up and getting them back together again numerous times, giving them huge dramatic storylines and featuring them so heavily as if they're 'soul mates' and meant to be together. It seems like the writers are trying to create the hysteria that couples like JM and Adelle got but the fan reactions just not there. And I think that's why I referred to them as a golden couple although obviously not in the same context you mean - maybe we have different opinions on what constitutes a golden couple

These polls are interesting because they do sometimes 'shock' people based on who they thought were the most popular. I'm not complaining about it at all, I'm just expressing my surprise at the results.
