Home And Away - Better Than It Use To Be?

And I don't think it is a current thing either. Neighbours has always been inferior to H&A. Hey though if you think a soap where dogs get married in dream sequences & families get blown out of the sky just for everyone to carry on as if the terrible tradegy like that hadn't happenis better then there is nothing much I can say.

The guy (I say guy because he's not an actor) who plays Ringo is a much worse actor than anyone in H&A. Yes I mean worse then Xavier.

Ratings do not reflect quality. Look at The Wire in America, probably the greatest tv show ever made that nobody watched.

And I'm kinda sick of you stating your opinion as given fact and listening to you slate home and away and it's characters and actors in every post you make. It's one thing to give constructive criticism and whole other to continually harp.

How do I state my opinion as if it were fact? People like Xavier and Martha are ruining my enjoyment of the show, and I don't doubt there are people out there who are fans of these people, but the fact that there is actually a thread named "The Boring Austin Family" supports the theory that there is a large amount of viewers out there who don't want to watch that family.

Because it's pure luck that an Australian show would air on an Australian channel...

To make myself clear, I was referring to the fact that if Home and Away was on at 6.30 on Ten, it wouldn't pull in the figures it does. Ten is in dire straits at the moment and that's having a huge effect on the ratings of Neighbours, I can only imagine that as more people watch Channel 7, that must work in Home and Away's favour.

Answering your own question.

I don't know where on earth you're getting your ideas that channel ten is a struggling station from either. When MasterChef was on I'm pretty sure it had the top rating spot over home and away and there are stats somewhere to prove it.

Wow. I thought I was the only person on the planet who was a fan of both The Wire and Home and Away. Although, given that they did a people smuggling storyline last year, I'm guessing someone in the script / production department is a fan of The Wire.

I'm pretty sure that for a time last year, Neighbours was beating Home and Away in the ratings pretty much solely due to the fact that H&A was competing against MasterChef.

I take it you didn't watch the 2006 season of Home and Away then? A stalker crashes a wedding, blowing up the venue. Burns victims get flown to a special unit, but crashes in the bush on the way. Then a search ensues for what seemed like a few weeks, and as soon as the search is about to be called off, residents of Summer Bay go looking and find the victims in the first few minutes.

I agree that Neighbours has had some ridiculoius storylines, but no more ridiculous than some of Home and Away's.

Answering your own question.

How is that answering my own question? I thought you were into constructive criticism?

I think Krystal's referring to the fact that you're saying HAA wouldn't rate as well on 10 at 6.30 as if it's a fact when you can't possibly know that.Maybe...

As I've previously said, David (Xavier) and Jodi (Martha) can barely pronounce their dialogue, let alone act. There are very few characters on Neighbours that I hate. Whereas I'd probably only axe Zeke on Neighours, there is a very longlist of characters I'd axe from Home and Away due to bad acting or just because they're bad characters.

Neighbours also has a larger sense of history. It has 8 residents who have lived in Ramsy Street for longer than ten years, in Home and Away there are only 5 now that they've brought Marilyn back, but Colleen and Irene can barely qualify in this category because they NEVER get storylines. I'm sick of people slagging off Neighbours when Home and Away is clearly far worse. You say it's 'nearing death' but the ratings for Neighbours beat Home and Away by a country mile in England. Home and Away is just lucky it airs on Channel 7 in Australia. Reverse timeslots and channels, and Neighbours would be in a much stronger state.

I really don't know what your problem is with Jodi Gordon because from where I am sitting she is a fine actress! All you need to do to see it is look back on when Martha first arrived, maybe then you could have had a point but not now, Jodi has gone from strength to strength over the past couple of years. David Jones Roberts isn't as bad as he was back when he arrived in January 2009, fair enough he isn't the best but he is only young still.

Home & Away rates better than Neighbours in Australia, where it counts! I am sure the country it is produced and filmed in is a lot more important than overseas countries. Fair enough you might say that Five covers an awful lot of production costs but still it is an Australian production owned by an Australian network.

and Home & Away is not "far worse" than Neighbours! Neighbours is dying out and the harder they try and stop it the worse it gets. I think they are flogging a dead horse to be honest , all the storylines are drivel and its been like that on and off for years!!

Neighbours may have more longer term residents but its not H&A's fault that actors choose to quit, they can't actually stop them from leaving the show so its no good to blame the show. I am sure if they could hold onto characters longer term then they would but it just doesn't work that way.

Yes but its all about how they react to these ridiculous situations, there is always depth & meaning in H&A no matter how silly things get. Neighbours doesn't have that.

LOL. Well lets just say Angelo is no McNulty.

And Home and Away is much the worse for it. I'd love to see Angelo become a borderline alcoholic who cheats on Charlie with an array of waitresses and bimbos. Maybe he could even do it with one of them on top of his police car. Maybe some of the women Hugo and Suzy were importing into the country were being imported for the purposes of enslaved prostitution and Angelo could have to go undercover at an illegal brothel with hilarious results. And then he could get frustrated at the police departments lack of funding and perpetrate a massive fraud for the sake of getting said funding. They'd also need to pair Angelo up with someone to be his version of Bunk Moreland, and maybe Watson could become H&A's Kima, since I'm pretty sure she's already a lesbian anyway. I know only one person in this forum is getting these comments, but I don't care.
