Charlie had hold of the ultrasound picture. A tear trickled down her face. “Twins” Angelo said as he opened the door to the house. “I can’t believe it” Charlie said as she put her hand on her stomach “Twins” Angelo repeated. “Take it then you’re happy” Ruby laughed. “I just can’t believe we’re having twins. At least now we can tell everyone” Angelo said “Actually, I wanted to tell dad before anyone else. I think he’d be very happy about been a granddad again” “And it would give him some good news after everything” Ruby added. “Is that alright with you two?” Charlie asked “Its fine with me” Angelo said as he kissed Charlie and put his hand on her stomach. “I can’t believe you’re making me wait longer to tell people. But yea its fine” Ruby smiled. The next day Charlie rung the home where Ross was staying. The receptionist told her that they would have to wait a few weeks before they could go and see Ross. Two weeks later… Charlie, Angelo and Ruby walked down the corridor to where Ross was. “Hi dad“, Charlie said as she entered the room. Ross turned to see his family, he smiled as they came over and hugged them. “How are you all?”, Ross asked with a smile on his face. “Were fine, Ross, thanks, how are you doing?” Angelo replied as he shook Ross’ hand. “I’ve nearly finished school, it feels so good to be getting out of there soon, but I don’t know what the next step is going to be though” Ruby said “Well what ever you decide will be the right decision” Ross added. “Well being engaged certainly agrees with you Charlie”Ross said “Are you happy?” Charlie was sat with shock all over her face, she answered her dad “Yes, I am, very happy dad“. “So, when is the baby due?” Ross asked with a smile on his face Charlie, Angelo and Ruby looked at each other in shock, how did Ross know Charlie was pregnant? ‘Five months’, Charlie replied, still shocked. ‘How did you know??’ Angelo asked Ross turned to face them all, “I know my daughter, she has that glow, a smile that wont go off her face, and the fact that she has a bump rings volumes” Charlie put her hand on her stomach and smiled, at that moment the baby kicked for the first time. “Charlie? What’s wrong?” Angelo asked as he saw Charlie quickly touch her stomach “The babies, they’re kicking!” Charlie smiled “Come feel” Angelo, Ross and Ruby walked over to Charlie. All placing a hand where the babies were kicking. Ross smiled, a tear rolled down Angelo’s cheek and Ruby felt a connection with the babies kick. One that connected her more to Charlie. For two hours Charlie, Ruby, Angelo and Ross talked, laughed and enjoyed each others company. On the drive back home Charlie had her hand on her stomach, Angelo was driving and Ruby was sat in the back. ‘When are you going to tell people about the baby’ Ruby asked ‘Well there is just Morag that I want to tell before everyone knows, I want the family knowing before friends know, after we tell Morag we can tell everyone else’ Charlie said The next day Charlie and Angelo told Morag about the baby and how they had told Ross about the marriage and pregnancy. “Congratulations!, I’m pleased for you both“, Morag said as she hugged her step-daughter and step-son-in-law to be. “Dad was there when the baby kicked for the first time, he was really happy about it all” Charlie said as she went to sit down. “How come you’re not with dad?” Charlie asked as she sat down “You’re dad wanted me to have a little time to myself. I refused at first, but he insisted, saying that I deserved a break for a while” “That’s true. You’ve done so much for him Morag, thank you” Charlie said as she took Morag’s hand. The following day Charlie and Angelo went to Noah’s. Tony and Rachel were stood talking in the gym about Charlie and Angelo, and Miles and Leah had just got back from Yabbie Creek. “I can’t believe you spent $60 on that” Miles said as he took a pair of shoes out of a bag “Don’t call them that, they’ll hear you! And $60 was a good price!” Leah said as she took the shoes off him “I can get a pair of shoes for $5” Miles said as he put his hands in his pockets. Colleen walked in and saw Charlie and Angelo talking. Making her way to their table she put her bag on the floor. “How’s your dad doing?” Colleen asked Charlie “He’s fine, thank you” Charlie replied. “Aww good. Anyway, I’ve made some muffins, and I was wondering if you would take these to Ross. After all he is married to my sister” Colleen smiled Charlie forced a smile on her face. Realizing Colleen was near-enough, her aunty. Colleen opened the bag and took out the box of muffins. “Those look good” Angelo said as he looked at the box. “You think so? I must admit, in my day I was a real good baker” Colleen boasted. Opening the box, she allowed Angelo to smell them. The smell made Charlie feel sick. Standing up quickly, she ran off to the bathroom. “Oh my, hope Charlie isn’t poorly or anything, the poor dear” Charlie came back out of the bathroom and walked over to the table. Pushing her hair away from her face, Charlie’s bump was revealed. Colleen looked at Charlie’s stomach “Charlie!, I didn’t know you were pregnant!” With that Leah, Irene, Miles, Tony, Alf and everyone in the room looked over and saw for themselves the bump Charlie had. They all congratulated Charlie and Angelo on the pregnancy. ‘Well at least we don’t have to worry about telling people’ Charlie said to Angelo. Both laughed.

The smell of the ocean filtered through their nostrils. Everywhere they looked, they saw couples in love. “I don’t think I would ever have thought this could be me” Rachel said to Tony as they walked along the beach “What you mean?” “Well, at the beginning of the year I found underwear in my bed, that weren’t mine, I was been cheated on, embarrassed and unloved. Now look at me. I’m happier than I ever have been, I’m in love with a great man, and I trust you completely. Something I never thought I’d be able to do again” Tony smiled at Rachel. Leaning down, he kissed her. “I love you” he whispered Leah and Miles walked into the shopping centre at Yabbie Creek. “How many shops?” Miles asked “As many as I need to go in” Leah replied “My feet hurt” Miles whinged “Miles, we haven’t walked anywhere yet” Leah pointed out “Ok. My feet will hurt. How about that?” Miles smiled Leah leaned over and playfully hit him. “Ok, now my arm hurts” Leah rolled her eyes. “So what are we looking for?” Miles asked as he rubbed his arm “Something for the babies” Leah said “Whose babies? You’re not..” “Miles, Angelo and Charlie’s babies. Not ours. I’m not pregnant” Leah said, sarcastically Miles breathed a sigh of relief. “Would it bother you?” Leah asked “Would what bother me?” “If I got pregnant?” Miles shook his head. “No” “Really?” Leah asked “Well, I would like to have a baby right now. But I think in the future, yea. A mini me or mini you would be perfect” Miles smiled “You really think that?” Leah asked “Well, yea. I mean, I consider VJ my son already, that will never change” “You really mean that. don’t you?” “Yea. Course I do” Miles replied” Don’t you believe me?” “I believe you. It’s just. I never thought I’d have this. A relationship, on that has a future. Ian never really got on with VJ and he obviously had problems with commitment. Not showing up at the wedding was a pretty big hint” “I’m not going anywhere” Miles took Leah’s hands “ I know. It feels good to know” Leah smiled. Leaning close together, they kissed. At school…. “So that’s why you couldn’t go out on Thursday night” Xavier said to Ruby “Yea. Sorry, I wanted to tell you, well, anyone, but mum didn’t want anyone knowing until the scan” Ruby replied. “Did you like the film?” Xavier asked, knowing it was a dumb thing to ask “Xave. I’m your girlfriend, you don’t have to ask me something like that. We have plenty to talk about” Ruby laughed “Yea, like you becoming a big sister. To two babies” “I can’t wait! I just want them to be here, now, I want to hold them, and dress them I just can’t wait!” Ruby said, excitedly “How long has she got?” “She was 14 weeks yesterday. But has to go for a caesarean at 35 weeks” “Why?” Xavier asked “Because the labour and birth could cause her to have a massive heart attack or have a lung collapse” “Oh god” Xavier said “I don’t think it bothers mum. Angelo is terrified. He’s worried that he wont get her to the hospital in time” “But he’s looking forward to been a dad?” “Oh yea, definitely. Angelo is positive they’re having boys” “What? Both of them?” Xavier asked “Yea both of them. Mum says she thinks it’s one of each, but I’m 100% sure its two girls. We’ve all got a bet on” Ruby laughed “If you ask me I think they’ve rushed in” Colleen said as she sat down “For gawd sake Colleen, that family have been through enough hell to last them ’til they die, having a baby is exactly what they deserve” “Don’t you mean two?” Alf added “Well yea two. I can’t think of anything better for them both then that” Irene smiled

Something was making them both smile. “Welcome back!” Irene said as she saw Rachel and Tony. “Hi” Rachel replied as she hugged Irene “So, how was it?” Irene asked “It was good. A surprise. But good, just what we needed” Rachel smiled “What’s going on?” Irene asked as she spotted the beaming smile on Rachel’s face. “Nothing” Rachel replied. Irene looked at Tony, he too had a beaming smile “Rachel, you’re not pregnant are you?” Irene asked, trying to figure out why they were so happy. “No, I’m not pregnant” Rachel replied. Still smiling. “Well for gawd sake lovey, what is it?” Irene asked. Rachel showed Irene. Irene brought her hands to her face. A smile washed over her face… Leah and Miles took a step back and admired their work. The walls were painted, the furniture was in, the pictures were hung up, the kitchen had pots and pans, crockery and silverware, the stairs had a new carpet, and upstairs had been redone also. “No bad” Miles said as he nodded his head. “Not bad? It looks so much better! It’s us” Leah replied “I don’t like living with you” Miles joked “Ok, I’ll go then, leave, walk out” Leah joked “You’re not going anywhere” Miles said as he grabbed Leah. Leah giggled as Miles brought her closer to him. “We’re all moved in. No going back” Leah said “Never” Miles whispered. A knock at the door pulled Leah and Miles apart “Go away!” Miles shouted. Leah hit him on the arm “Miles!” Leah headed to the door. “Hey guys! How was the trip?” Leah asked as she let Tony and Rachel in “Perfect. Just what we needed” Tony said. “So. Anything new with you?” Leah asked “One little thing” Rachel said, showing Leah. “Oh my god!” Leah shouted with excitement Miles shook Tony’s hand. “When was this done? Why wasn’t I invited?” Leah asked as she looked at the ring “It was a spur of the moment thing. One minute we were stood outside a church talking about things, and the next, the vicar is telling me that I am now Rachel Holden” Rachel smiled. “God, two weeks and everything changes” Leah smiled “Not just with me. Look at this house. Its so different” Rachel said as she looked around “You did something with the house?” Tony asked Miles laughed “We redecorated” Leah replied “Oh. It looks nice” Tony said, looking around. “Why don’t you two go out before you hurt yourselves” Leah told them Miles and Tony took the hint, grabbing a few beers, they walked out of the house. “I can’t believe you’re married” Leah said as she looked at the ring again “I can’t. I mean, its something I’ve always wanted, Tony and me to be married, but I didn’t think it would happen this fast” Rachel laughed. “I’m so happy for you Rach” Leah smiled “Thank you. So, how’s things going with you and Miles?” “How I want it to. Miles is ok with that, I don’t want to rush into the whole marriage thing, and neither does he. We know that we are so lucky to have what we have, but we also know that marriage is a possibility” “What made you decide to get married. Then and there?” Miles asked as Tony and him sat on the beach “We were talking about what things were like before we split. We had everything planned out; marriage, kids, the whole thing. And then when we split and moved on, we thought all that went out the window” “But now you’re back together, you’ve realised that you have the real thing, you don’t want to let it go” Miles added “So what about you and Leah?” Tony asked “I like how things are going. And so does Leah, I think. I’m pretty sure marriage is an option, but not know cos of what happened with Ian. But at least its an option” Miles said. “Do you think you’ll ever get married?” Tony asked “That’s the thing, I see us with a kid or two and then getting married. I don’t know, I just backward” Miles replied Tony laughed. Miles opened a bottle of beer. “To be honest, I don’t really care if we do get married, if we don’t, don’t care if we have no kids or thirty. Just as long as Leah and I are together” Miles drank from his bottle. “So, are you getting paid for all this time off?” Ruby asked Charlie as they sat down “Well, that’s what I wanted to talk to you about. Angelo and I have been talking and we’ve decided that it would be better if I didn’t go back to work at all” “Mum, you love your job. How are you supposed to give it up?” “I would like to have been able to go back, but the truth is, I’ll have to do as little as possible for six weeks after the babies are born, then there is my chest to think about, it just makes more sense for me to quit now, so I have enough time to get ready for the birth” Charlie said as she stroked her stomach. “I can’t wait! I just want to hold them and dress them and play games!” Charlie laughed at Ruby. The last time Charlie saw Ruby this excited was when Charlie returned home after been away for a couple of months when she was at college. “You’re really happy about this?” Charlie asked “What do you mean?” Ruby asked “Rubes, come on” “I’m happy that I’m going to have little brothers and/or sisters to look after, and I’m happy for you because you’ve deserved this happiness for so long. But in a way, I am jealous. Does that make me a bad person?” “Ruby no, it doesn’t. I can see why you’d be jealous. These babies are going to be raised by both parents, and know who their mother is. You never really had that, and that’s another reason I didn’t tell you straight away” “Mum, how I came to be born wasn’t your fault or mine. I was kept in the family, I was loved” Ruby looked at Charlie, a tear fell down her face. “Will I se that look in your eye when you hold these babies and wish you had that when you held me, yes. But I don’t care. That was the past, and what we have now, the present and the future, that’s what I care about” “I did have that look” Charlie spoke softly “What?” “A few minutes after you were born, the doctor handed you to me and when I looked at you for the first time, I knew that I loved you, but I didn’t know how. You looked up at me with these big, brown eyes, and a little smile appeared on your face. And your little hand grasped my finger. I didn’t know what to feel. Looking at you I never saw anything of what happened before, everything was perfect.” Charlie smiled as she remembered “Then what changed?” Ruby asked “When I fell asleep, all I could see was what happen. I remembered everything. The doctors had to come and calm me down. I woke up and looked at you, and I never saw those images. It was like I entered two worlds, one whilst I slept and one whilst I was awake. I was so confused about everything and so ashamed of myself that I went to Auntie Michelle’s, she made me feel like I was a teenage again, and she helped me grow up. When I came home I was ready to be the best mother to you that I could be, I was heartbroken when I saw that you had bonded with my mum like she was yours, I tired for weeks to bond with you as a mother but it was too late, I had to accept you as my sister, after time it seemed more real” Charlie wiped the tears from her face. Ruby held Charlie hand. “I love you mum” “I love you too Rubes”

Tony, Rachel, Miles, Leah, Angelo, Charlie and most of the bay were at Noah’s celebrating Rachel and Tony’s marriage. As the day died down, Rachel and Tony looked at the table of presents. “Where are we going to put all that?” Tony asked “We’ll find somewhere. I think” Rachel laughed. “House not big enough?” Miles asked. “Yea, its big enough. When we remove some things” Tony replied “Like what?” “Jack and Lucas’ things” Tony replied “How are they?” Leah asked “Lucas is overseas developing the play he wrote. And Jack is with Alex, somewhere in France I think” Tony replied “How have they taken the news?” Charlie asked “They’re happy. In fact the both said to me, that it was about time!” Tony laughed. Leah, Rachel and Charlie put the rubbish in some bags. Miles, Tony and Angelo took the streamers down from the lights. After cleaning Noah’s for an hour, they called it a day. “You guys want to come back to our place?” Miles asked “Can do” Tony replied Angelo looked at Charlie, Charlie nodded “Count us in” Angelo answered. “Great. I’ll just grab some beer” Miles headed to the store room and grabbed a crate of beer. The group walked out of Noah’s and walked to the caravan park house. As the beer and orange juice was drank, the laughs and memories were spoken. “Remember when Miles decided to scare Leah?” Rachel said “Yea, but it went wrong and he ended up with the crab bruising him!” Tony laughed “It wasn’t funny! It hurt!” Miles added in “Well next time you wont try and get me with the crab!” Leah laughed “It took me ages to be able to go to the toilet without it hurting” “Yea, you tried so hard not to drink a lot. Shame it was the height of summer” “That was the worst two days of my life” Miles said “How about when you fell into the water hole?” Leah remembered “Yea, I remember this! You were too busy arguing with me and you stormed off, walking through a puddle, but falling into it!” Rachel added “I wasn’t arguing with you!” Miles said “Yea, you were. I won the bet you and I had going, and you wouldn’t admit it” “What was the bet?” Miles asked “I think it was who could drink a pint quicker out of Tony and Angelo” Rachel replied “No, it was out of Charlie and me” Tony replied. “Who won? I cant remember?” Angelo asked “The rules are simple. Two pints. One each. Whoever finishes their’s first is the winner. Mouth must be empty, and no beer should spill anywhere” Leah said as she raised her hand. “I bet you $25 Ton wins” Miles said. “Done, $25 says Charlie wins” Rachel shook Miles’ hand “Ready?” Leah asked Tony and Charlie nodded their heads. “Set” Tony and Charlie grabbed their glasses “Go!” Leah shouted. Tony and Charlie picked the glasses up, placing them to their mouths they drank. A glass was placed on the table. “We have a winner!” Leah shouted. Miles and Rachel opened their eyes. They saw Tony holding his glass. He had a little left. They saw Charlie holding her empty glass. “Yes! $25 thank you” Rachel said as she smiled smugly at Miles “Whatever” Miles replied as he handed the money over. “I don’t feel so good” Charlie said as she held her stomach and bent over. “I lost. To a woman” Tony said, gob smacked “Beginners luck” Tony said as he looked at Charlie “What? You can’t stand the fact that I won” Charlie smiled “Bet you can’t do it again” Tony said “Tony?” Charlie said, pointing at her stomach “Yea, I mean after the babies are born” Tony replied “You thought of any names yet?” Rachel asked “Not yet” Charlie replied “Any idea what you’re having?” Miles asked “I don’t want to know, but Angelo” “What? I want to know. I want to be able to tell people; these are my sons” “Angelo, they might be girls” Charlie said. “At a push I’ll have one of each” Angelo smiled “Nah, I don’t care what they are, just as long as they’re happy and healthy” Charlie nodded. “Do they move about a lot?” Leah asked “Yes, they like to move when I’m trying to get to sleep” Charlie said “But, the weird thing is, they only kick when I’m in water. Ruby used to do that. I’ll be in the bath and I’ll see a blob move across” Charlie smiled “It looks so weird! Looks like an alien trying to get out” Angelo added “Angelo!” Leah hit him on the arm “How is Ruby with all of this?” Tony asked “We had a talk a couple of days ago. She’s excited about it” Charlie replied At Xavier’s………. “What a jerk! I can’t believe that guy did that!” Ruby said as she opened the fridge “Rubes, its fine. Just drop it” Xavier said as he sat down “Xave, you saw him, what he did? Why are you not bothered?” “It has nothing to do with me” “He came at you too” “Not really, he stumbled forward” “Xavier, he stepped forward and looked you straight in the eye” “I was in his eye line” “What? No you weren’t. Wait a minute. Do you know him?” Ruby asked as she saw Xavier’s face drop “Kinda” Xavier replied “How?” “Remember a few weeks ago there was that trouble at school?” Ruby nodded “Well, I kinda got in his way, and he ended up throwing a couple of punches, but I got away. He shouted that he’d get me, but I never took him seriously” “Xave. What the hell did you do?” “Lets just saw I can put him away for a long time, and leave it at that” “Tell mum, or Angelo. They’ll be able to help” “No. I don’t want to put them at risk” “Xave, they do this sort of thing for a living” Ruby told him “Charlie doesn’t. not now, and if Angelo did this for me, Charlie would worry about him. I’ll handle it. I promise”

I have an appointment with my doctor regarding my diabetes” Ruby lied “I’ll pass the message on” “Thank you”. Ruby hung up and smiled to herself. Grabbing her things, she headed out of the door and walked to the police station. Constable Watson was stood behind the desk. “Hi” Ruby said as she walked up to the desk. “Hey, how’s Charlie?” Georgina asked “She’s fine thank you. Why don’t you come around sometime and see her?” “Yea. I might do that” Georgina smiled. “So, is there anything I can help you with?” “Yes, there is. But I need you to not tell Angelo” “Ruby, I may have to” “But can you try not to? I don’t want him involved for Charlie’s sake” “Fine. What’s the problem?” “Xavier told me that he saw this guy dealing on the school campus, a couple of weeks ago. And then last night, when we were out, Xavier saw this same guy” “Do you know what he was dealing?” “Drugs” “I know that, I mean what kind of drugs” Georgina laughed “Oh. Xavier didn’t say.” Georgina sighed. “Why? What’s wrong?” Ruby asked “It doesn’t matter. You did the right thing. I’ll look into it further” Georgina smiled “Ok. See ya” Ruby said, unsure of what just happened. Georgina watched as Ruby left the station. When she was sure Ruby had gone, Georgina headed into the office. “Sir? He’s back” “You are happy aren’t you?” Miles asked “Yea, why?” Leah replied “Well, Tony and Rachel are married, Angelo and Charlie are having twins and are engaged, don’t you feel like you need to have that?” “Miles, I have you. That’s all I need” Leah replied as she placed her hand over Miles’ hand. “You sure?” “Miles, we don’t have to be engaged or married to prove that we love each other” “I know, I just don’t want you thinking I don’t want to marry you” “Miles. At this moment in time, I don’t want to get married. Not after everything with Ian” “But I wouldn’t do that to you” “I know, but, I just don’t want to be getting married again within a short time period of Ian” “Ok” “You’re ok with this?” Leah asked “Yes” “You’re sure?” “Yes, I’m sure” “That was Jack. He’s flying in tomorrow with Alex” Tony said as he put the phone back on the hook “Great. Does he know about us?” Rachel asked as she came out of the kitchen “He doesn’t know we’re married. I wanted to see him face to face first” “Ok. So this Alex girl, has Jack told you anything about her?” “All he’s said is she is an artist, and they met in Italy” “Italy? weren’t they in France a few weeks ago” “Yea” Rachel shook her head. “Why did they go to France?” “I don’t know. All he said was he hasn’t felt like this about anyone for a long time, and he went with the moment and they went to France” “Charlie? What the hell are you doing?” Angelo asked “What does it look like?” Charlie replied “It looks like you’re over doing it” Angelo said as he took the paintbrush out of her hand. “Angelo” Charlie tried to grab the brush. “Charlie, no. don’t worry I’ll do the room” “In time for when the babies are born?” Charlie asked “Yes” Angelo lead Charlie down the stairs. “Angelo, you cant stop me doing things, I’ll go crazy if I don’t do something” “Charlie you have to take it easy” Angelo said as he fluffed the cushions “Angelo, I’m pregnant not an invalid” “I know, but you have to take care of yourself” “How am I supposed to do that when you are around me all the time?” Charlie snapped. “I’m sorry, it’s just, since we found out it was twins, you’ve been fussing and to be honest, its annoying” “Charlie, I’m only trying to help” “I know you are, I’m sorry, its just, its all new to me, I never had all this with Ruby” “I know. But you have it now. From me and Ruby” Angelo smiled. Taking Charlie’s hands, he put them on her stomach. The babies kicked. Charlie and Angelo laughed.

You do realise I’m working today” Rachel said “Oh ****, you are aren’t ya?” “It’s fine, you and Jack need to spend sometime together anyway. It’ll be fine” “You sure? I mean, didn’t you want to tell him about us?” “Tony, you can’t tell Jack that you’ve got married as soon as you see him, you’ve at least got to spend sometime with him, catch-up, get to know Alex” “Yea, I suppose” “Tony, don’t sound too excited” Rachel sarcastically said “Well I don’t know Rach, he knows Alex for a week and already he’s jet setting to France, and other places” “Tony, he’s 25. What do you expect?” “I can’t believe you made me do that” Leah said as she threw a bucket and cloth “What? You wanted to help” Miles laughed “I meant folding clothes, or washing a van. Not unblocking the toilets!” Leah scoffed “Leah” “Shut up. Its disgusting” Leah looked to Miles, unable to keep the angry face, she smiled when she saw his face. “It can’t have been that bad if you’re smiling” “It was. He got out and did a string of deals, he’s now been spotted in the bay by Xavier Austin” Georgina briefed a constable “When was this?” Phillips asked “He was seen about a week ago” “Near a high school? He’s not that stupid surely” Phillips stated “He might not be. But he does have a record for it” “Tendril? Why is that name familiar?” Phillips asked as she looked around trying to place the name “Warren and Peter Tendril. The older brothers of Dan” “Aren’t they serving time?” “Yes” Georgina replied. “What? Do you think there is a connection?” “I don’t know, maybe” Phillips scratched her head. “Think about it. These brothers worked together to expand their businesses. Warren was the tough guy, beating everyone. Peter used his businesses as a base, and Dan would supply the drugs” “I’m not following” Georgina replied “The case a few years ago which Buckton investigated was a drugs bust. But everything went wrong, and we never caught Dan, he escaped. Warren and Peter then made it look like a burglary to keep themselves clean” “And that’s how Charlie became involved.” Georgina’s eyes widened “****. She’s not in danger is she?” “I don’t think so. Why?” Phillips asked “Warren and Peter between them, nearly killed Charlie, three times, Warren beat her and Peter, well” “At the moment Charlie is safe. We just have to get Dan before he finds Charlie” “Where do we start?” “Everything looks good. The babies are the right size, everything is where there supposed to be. The heartbeats are strong” The doctor told Charlie and Angelo as she pointed to the screen “Can you tell what they are?” Angelo asked “Would you like to know?” “No” “Yes” Charlie looked at Angelo. “Fine. No” Angelo sighed. The doctor laughed. “You will have to come back at 30 weeks. Just to make sure that they are still good” “Alright. Thank you” Charlie said as she wiped the gel from her stomach. “Why can’t we find out?” Angelo asked “I don’t want to know. I want that surprise when the doctor delivers them and tells me I have a son or a daughter” Charlie smiled “So I have to wait” “Angelo, you’ve only got nine weeks to wait” Charlie smiled “But that’s too long” Charlie smiled at Angelo. “You’re such a big kid” “Dad?” Jack shouted as he knocked at the door. “Doors open” Tony shouted. “Come on” Jack said to Alex as he pushed the door open “Hey mate” Tony said as he went over to Jack and gave him a hug “Hi dad” Jack replied. “You must be Alex” Tony said as he outstretched his arm “Hi” Alex replied. Standing tall, Alex had short brown hair, hazel coloured eyes, she had an athletic body and was wearing a flowing dress. “So, come in, sit down. How was your trip?” “It was good. Little more than trip, but still good” Jack replied “So Alex, what is it you do?” “I used to be an escort” Tony choked.

Well he did tell me off for been married to you for only a few weeks” “Why?” “He thought we should have been married for a few years” “Did you tell him?” “I told him that I was away for four months not one, and that you were with someone else when I got back. He doesn’t know about everything that went on” “Good. I know he’s your son, but I don’t want him knowing. that’s in the past and he really doesn’t need to know about that” “Ok fair enough. I wont tell him” “Thank you” Rachel smiled “So this is where you used to work?” Alex asked as Jack lead her into the police station. “Yea” “Why did you leave?” “Honestly, I had just broke up with someone, and I just had to get away. There’s plenty” “Name one” “Olivia” Annie suggested “We said that, but Angelo didn’t want the name” “How many names have you been through?” Annie asked “I think we’ve said about 100 boys names and 30 girls names” “Does Angelo think he’s having boys?” “Yep” Ruby laughed. “What do you think?” “At first I thought they were girls, but now I think its one of each” “What does Charlie think they are?” “She’s not really bothered, just as long as they are healthy and happy” “How long is it now?” Annie asked “She goes in for the operation in five weeks. I cant wait!” Xavier walked along the road heading back to the bay. Looking at a car that was travelling towards him, he recognised the car. It was red, with rust patches, the engine sounded ropy, the paint work was really bad, and the driver looked familiar too. Diving into the bushes to hid, he used the branches to cover his face. The car pulled up into a space. The man got out of the car. Turning around, Xavier’s eyes widened when he realised who it was. “****” He said to himself. The man ducked back into his car and grabbed the gun. Xavier took his phone out of his pocket. Looking down his contacts Andrew Alex Ben Bethany Charlie Danny Evan Until he reached Ruby. Xavier pressed the green button.

Sorry” Rachel replied “what am I supposed to do?” “Go to Noah’s, go see Miles something” Rachel put her shoe on. “I’ll see you later tonight, love you” “Love you too” Jack put the files down. “I don’t like the sound of that” “What makes you say that?” “I’ve dealt with Dan Tendril a couple of times before. Both times he had his brothers bail him out” “But they’re both in prison” “For how long?” “Warren for six years and Peter for three. Why?” “It says in these files they have a 10 month sentence to carry out before they can appeal. They were sentenced 8 months ago” “They can’t get out, no way. Not after what they did to Charlie” “It says it in here” Georgina rubbed her forehead. “Charlie was nearly killed by these two bastards. Three times. And they’re going to get out? Not if I have anything to do with it” “What are you going to do?” Jack asked “Get Dan” Georgina grabbed the keys and her gun and walked out of the station. Jack ran after her. “Xavier?” Ruby said as she walked along the bushes “Rubes?” Xavier replied “Can you come out, I feel so stupid talking to a bush” Xavier popped his head out of the bushes. “Hey” “Hey, what’s up?” “You know I told you about that guy?” “The dealer? Yea” “Well, he’s more than just that” “What? He’s a gun salesman?” Ruby asked “No. His name is Dan. Dan Tendril” “How the hell do you know his name?” “From when I dealt drugs to help mum with Brendan” “Oh right.” Realising “Wait? Dan Tendril. As in Warren and Peter?” Ruby asked “Yea” “Mum!” “Ruby wait!” Xavier grabbed Ruby’s arm “Mum could be in danger, let me go!” “I don’t think he knows where Charlie lives” “I’m not taking that chance!” “Hey, sorry Charlie, I’ve just been called into work” Angelo said as he put his phone back in his pocket. “Oh. Ok. Erm, I’ll see you tonight” Charlie said as Angelo kissed her. “Bye” Charlie smiled. Charlie winched in pain. “Charlie? You ok?” Leah asked as she walked over to where Charlie was sitting “Yea, I’m fine” “Are you sure? That didn’t look good” Leah replied “No, its fine. Baby was just kicking. that’s all” “Where’s Angelo gone?” “He got called into work” Charlie replied. “Leah” Alf shouted “Just a sec Charlie” “Actually. I’m going to go home, I’ll see you later” “Yea, see ya” Leah stood up and Walked to Alf. Charlie struggled to rise to her feet. Ruby and Xavier ran to the house. “Mum!” Ruby shouted as she ran into the room. “There’s no one here” Xavier said “We have to find her” Ruby said. Turning back around, they ran out of the door. Dan walked along the road. He saw two people run. Walking along the path, be opened the door. Walking inside, he hid in the darkness ready for Charlie returning. “Where’s Watson?” Angelo asked as he walked into the office “She and Jack ran out of here about an hour ago. She didn’t say where they were going” Jameson replied “Perfect” Angelo shook his head. Sitting down at the desk, he saw the files. Seeing the word ‘Tendril’, dread filled his entire body. Angelo grabbed his phone and rang Georgina.

Back to yours?…can do” Georgina hung up and turned the car around. “What are you doing?” Jack asked “Going to Angelo and Charlie’s house. Dan might be there” Xavier and Ruby ran along the road heading towards Noah’s. Charlie gasped as another wave of pain swept over her. Leah took some fruit to the bar. “Hey Alf, you didn’t happen to look over at Charlie before she left did you?” “No, I didn’t. is something wrong?” Alf asked “I’m sure its nothing, but she looked like she was in pain” Dan heard a car approaching. Looking out of the window he saw the police car pull into the cul-de-sac. “****” Dan mumbled to himself Racing to the door, he ran to the bushes and hid. Georgina and Jack ran into the house. Dan ran to the car. Hearing the engine start up, Georgina and Jack ran back to the car. Dan pulled away just as Georgina got to the car. Ruby and Xavier ran into Noah’s. “Leah!” Ruby shouted. Leah ran out of the store room “What? What’s wrong?” Leah asked “Mum, have you seen mum?” Ruby asked, trying to catch her breath “She was in her a few minutes ago, she left to go back home” “She’s not at home. We’ve just come from there” “What’s going on?” Leah asked, sensing the panic in Ruby’s voice “That guy Dan? He’s Warren and Peter’s brother. He’s after Charlie” “Oh my god!, come one, I’ll help you look for her” Leah, Xavier and Ruby ran back out of Leah’s. Dan swerved the car, narrowly missing a car coming on the other side of the road. Sounding the horn as he weaved in and out of traffic, he desperately tried thinking of places where Charlie was. Dan looked out of his window. A bus flashed his lights and sounded his horn. Dan didn’t swerve. “Ambulance crews needed, bus and a car involved in head-on collision. Bus filled with thirty passengers, all injured, the driver of the car is trapped in his vehicle. Police already on the scene. Road blocked out of summer bay and along the hospital road.” “Great, that’s all we need. Alright, stations get set up, be prepared for an influx” Rachel said as she set people with a task. Angelo went back to the station. He was one of the few who weren’t called to the road accident. Charlie sat at the beach. Breathing through the pain. She tried to shout for help, but couldn’t. “Charlie!” “Mum!” Xavier, Leah and Ruby looked for Charlie. Nothing. “Where is she?” Ruby cried. “We’ll find her” Xavier said as he put his arm around her. Ruby nodded her head. Looking at the ground she saw something. “Xave? Pass me the torch” Ruby held her hand out. “Why?” Xavier asked as he handed Ruby the torch. Ruby shone the torch on the floor. “Blood” Ruby said. Ruby shone the torch along the floor. She saw more blood droplets. “Mum” she whispered. Following the trail of blood, they found themselves on the beach. “I can’t see anymore!” Ruby screamed. “Wait” Xavier said. “What?” Ruby asked “Listen” Listening carefully, they heard someone breathing deeply. “Mum” Ruby shouted. Ruby ran along the beach. “Mum!” Ruby screamed when she saw Charlie “Rubes?” Charlie said weakly “Oh my god” “Xavier, get some help!” Ruby screamed “Here get my car!” Leah shouted as she threw the keys to Xavier. “Mum? You’re going to be ok” Ruby told Charlie Charlie breathed through the pain. “Right, Charlie? Can you stand up?” Leah calmly spoke Charlie tried to stand, but couldn’t. “Mum” “Ruby, you and I are going to have to help Charlie. You ready?” Ruby nodded her head. Xavier drove the car as close to the beach as he could. Running back to where the girls were, he saw what was going on. “Xavier! Call Angelo!” Ruby shouted Xavier took his phone out of his pocket. “Rosetta…What?….are you with her now? Good, I’ll be there as soon as I can” Angelo hung up. He grabbed his keys and ran to the door. “Where are you going?” Franks asked “Charlie is either in labor or having a heart attack, I’m going to her” “He’s on his way” Xavier told Ruby as he headed towards them. Ruby and Leah were on either side of Charlie, helping her walk. “Where’s Angelo” Charlie gasped “On his way” Xavier said. “My water broke” Charlie gasped “Oh god” Ruby said “Nearly there Charlie” Leah said as they approached the car. Charlie couldn’t walk anymore, she collapsed in the spot she was standing in. “I can’t walk” Charlie said as she was breathing through another contraction. “We’ll have to deliver the baby here then” Leah said as Ruby looked really worried now Just then Angelo pulled up, seeing what was going on, he picked Charlie up and took her over to his car. “No way are my children been born here”
