Actors' Disposition On Their H&A Experience

With all the hullabaloo surrounding Jodi Gordon's departure from the show. I thought this would make an interesting topic:

Of all the regular actors who have appeared on H&A from 1988-now who has gone on record as having a positive experience working on the show and who has gone on record of having a negative experience?"

To my knowledge there are only two actors that I'm aware of that have either come out or been outed as having a less than favorable experience or departure from the show:

First would be Melissa George's admission in an interview a few years back that Dieter Brummer by the end of his contract basically grew tired of portraying "Shane Parrish" day in and day out leading to what she termed as "unprofessional behavior" on his part.

The second would be Bobby Morley who said in an article after he departed the show that H&A used him as a "meat puppet" and also alluded to the fact that the show temporarily destroyed his passion for the industry. As far as I can tell in Morley's case the bad feelings are mutual as to my knowledge I've never once seen Seven Network publish photographs of Morley's "cast farewell party" (if he even had one) and in the recent H&A 21st Anniversary Magazine there was nary a mention of him or his character "Drew Curtis" despite the fact that Morley's character was a major part of the show for several years.

I think everyone else has been pretty much upbeat about their time on the show when asked. Unless I'm missing something?

Edit 3-12-10: I did manage to find today a photograph of Bobby Morley's cast farewell part. Jess is there along with Jon, Lincoln, Todd, Ray and a few others.

Actors are people too and sometimes people don't like their jobs, even if they look brilliant on the outside. I don't think people should be judged too harshly for being honest about their personal experiences. If there is any truth to what they say, they could actually make things better for future actors who don't want to wind up in the same position, feeling like they're being exploited for their looks rather than valued for their talent in Bobby's case.

I agree that they are people to but at the same time they knew what they were getting into when they signed onto the show.Bobby was naive if he thought they hired him purely on acting talent. They are also a lot better off then the average person and complaining does seem kind of ungrateful. They wouldn't be where they are if it wasn't for the fans. Not to mention the fact that it'd make it harder to find other work.

From things i've read Melissa George has also said some unfavourable things about the show,so for her to bag out Dieter is kind of like the pot calling the kettle black.

Years and years ago Les Hill had done interviews were he bagged H&A. So was very surprized to see him start doing the reunion shows years later

Melissa George comes to mind when thinking of those who have said negative things.

On the positive side., Kate Ritchie made no qualms of her love for working on the show and in particular, "her" house. Emily Symons said it was the happiest time of her life, and despite complaining about the cold, Dannii Minogue has praised the show too. As has Isla Fisher.

I think it's naive for anyone working on a soap to believe that they were hired purely based on their acting talent. It shouldn't be this way, but I'll put my hand up and say that a lot of the reason that I watch TV shows is because the actors are hot. Attractive people are what the majority of viewers want to see.

Most soaps wouldn't hire a really unattractive person even if their acting was outstanding.

Whereas, the UK soaps are quite the opposite. They seem to hire good actors regardless of their looks. And I like that. I could probably safely say that I can identify with the characters on Coronation Street and Emmerdale more than I would with those on Home and Away. They are so much more realistic.

I think that trend is starting to buckle, with Corrie being accused in the press recently of being a teen soap and hiring only good looking actors.

I think Corrie has certainly went off the boil in the past few years, EastEnders which I don't watch a great deal, is however always really good whenever I catch an episode.
