5000th episode special ?

I know that H&A stated months ago that

the 5000th episode would just be a normal episode of the show with no big special storyline planned

but I think it would have been nice for them to have aired a special show to mark the milestone. A kind of show looking back on the last 5000 episodes and all the top moments over the years, or even a countdown of the best 100 moments over the 5000th episodes. It would have been a brilliant idea IMO! A UK show Eastenders is marking its 25th anniversary with 100 of the best cliffhangers in 3 installments continuing over the next few weeks.

H&A doesn't ever have many special shows for special occasions like this one. It would be nice is all :)

EastEnders special is actually the 100 characters with most cliffhangers, but I suppose it save arguments by producing a factual list instead of an opinion. I have to agree in a way though. It would have been nice if it was mentioned, even something small, but they completely ignored it.

But the 5000 aus dollars from Hugo were a reference to the milestone, wasn't it? They celebrated the 21st for so long, actually the whole year, and two years ago it was the 20th celebration (which was much smaller). If they have had a big celebration of the 5000 episode, after the whole year of 21st celebrations it would have been repetative.

Maybe 21st are very special to Australians. I know someone who was in Aus (kind of an "exchange" student) and celebrated her 21st there, she was shocked about the celebration she got. 21st isn't anything special up here (its just like 22,23,24 etc). 20 years are more special, because of the "round" number, 18 years because at that age we are legal, even 25 is more special than 21, and 30,40 etc. So for me it would have been more natural to mark the 5000 ep, instead of 21st birthday but I think maybe the 21st is more important to the Aussies???

I'm not talking anything huge, but you'd think they'd have put something up the official site, a little photo feature perhaps and perhaps mentioned it in the Thursday's promo or Alf talking on something that would have been uploaded to the web by now about 5000 episodes. I'm not talking parties or huge events or reunions. But you'd think there might have been just something that bar the money that made people not watching the show know that Home and Away was 5,000 episodes old.

Good question — why is 21 so much more important than 20? 20 is more of a round number than the oddity of 21???

Anyway,

I'm sorry to say

, the half-century 5000 (the biggest number you could possibly have before the big, astronomical 10,000 heaven forbid H&A would want to try to get there after such an immense period of time)

the 5000th was an absolute fizzer

Hmm.The 5,000th episode...was an episode. That's about all you can say about it.It wasn't a good episode but we've had worse.

The whole 21 thing is because 21 used to be 18.No, really. That was the legal adult, voting age thing. There might still be a few things you can't do until you're 21, at least over here, but I'm not sure.(Something to do with driving lorries?I know they didn't have to pay me as much until I turned 21...)It's the traditional "key to the door" when someone becomes an adult and it's a tradition that's not really gone away even though in a sense it doesn't exist anymore.

Yeah, this link to the traditional "key to the door" and all that, doesn't really make a lot of sense. What is the difference between 20 and 21? See, doesn't make much sense......

Anyway, traditions (whether or not they make sense) are another subject altogether, so let's move on.....

I quite agree — it is a shame the 5000th wasn't even half the occasion as the 4000th was.
