(November 23, 1985)
18 year-old Jacqueline Forsyth is celebrating her graduating Year 12 when she sees a woman arguing with a man.
Grace: Look, just leave me alone!
Man: I say you’re coming home with me, now!
*Jacqueline storms over*
Jacqueline: Leave that poor girl alone!
Man: Mind ya business, lady!
*Jacqueline punches him in the face*
Jacqueline: Beat it!
*The man runs off*
Jacqueline: You okay?
Grace: I sure am. Thanks for saving me from my crazy ex-boyfriend.
Jacqueline: No worries.
Grace: Say, I’ve seen you around somewhere.
Jacqueline: Wait a minute. Are you Grace Moran?
Grace: Yes. I forgot your name, I’m afraid.
Jacqueline: Jacqueline Forsyth.
Grace: OMG! Jacqui, how are you?
*Grace and Jacqueline hug*
Jacqueline: I haven’t seen you since primary school.
Grace: I know. I’ve recently moved into a flat in Glebe.
Jacqueline: How’s that going?
Grace: The rent is too high.
Jacqueline: Would you like to join me and some of my friends from high school?
Grace: Sure. What are you celebrating?
Jacqueline: Graduating Year 12.
*Grace and Jacqueline go off to the table where Jacqueline’s friends are*

(February 4, 1986)
A few months later, Jacqueline started a TAFE course in Business Services. That’s where she met David.
Teacher: Now, I want you all to begin the workbook I have given you.
*Jacqueline struggles with the fourth chapter*
Jacqueline: *to David* Excuse me?
David: Yes?
Jacqueline: I was wondering if you could help me with this chapter. I don’t have a clue what to do.
David: Here’s what you do.
*David shows Jacqueline how to correctly do the work*
Jacqueline: Thanks. *smiles*
David: What’s your name?
Jacqueline: Jacqueline.
David: I’m David.
*they shake hands*
Jacqueline: Nice to meet you.
(During their lunch break, they see Vanessa Freeman and Adrian Valiente walk towards the table.)
Vanessa: Hi.
Adrian: Hello.
Jacqueline: Hey guys.
Vanessa: Can we join you? The cafeteria is full.
David: Sure.
*Vanessa and Adrian sit with them*
Jacqueline: Who are you guys?
Vanessa: I’m Vanessa Freeman and this is Adrian Valiente. *points at Adrian*
*Adrian bursts into giggles*
David: What are you laughing at, mister? *smiles*
Vanessa: Oh, he’s always laughing like that. He’s a very happy person.
Adrian: Your names?
Jacqueline: Sorry?
Vanessa: He asked what your names were.
Jacqueline: Oh, I’m Jacqueline Forsyth and this is my new friend, David Foley.
Adrian: Hello.
David: What course are you guys doing?
Vanessa: We’re doing a Certificate II in Business Administration.
Jacqueline: Well, we’re doing a Cert IV in Business Services.
Adrian: Awesome.
Jacqueline: You know, I think if we hang out with each other on a regular basis, we could become best friends.
Vanessa: So right. *smiles*
*Jacqueline smiles back*

Jacqueline: How is everyone?
Grace: Miserable. My landlady evicted me.
Jacqueline: Why?
Grace: She hates me.
Jacqueline: You could always live with me.
Grace: Thanks.
Adrian: I want to find my own place too.
Vanessa: My parents are driving me crazy. I’m sick of living by their rules.
David: Same.
Jacqueline: I’ve got an idea.
David: Do tell.
Jacqueline: Why don’t you all move into my house? It’s getting lonely on my own.
*Adrian bursts into giggles*
Grace: Are you saying that we should be your roommates Jackie?
Jacqueline: Correct.
David: I guess it could work out.
Grace: I agree.
Vanessa: I like the idea. What do you think Adrian?
Adrian: I like it.
Jacqueline: Then it’s settled. You can all live with me. *smiles*

(July 19, 1986)
Grace, Vanessa, David and Adrian are moving into Jacqueline’s house at Balmain.
Grace: This is a great house.
Jacqueline: I’m glad you guys are living here.
David: Thanks for all this, Jacqueline.
Jacqueline: No worries.
*A few hours later, everyone has unpacked and are settling in*
Adrian: I’m tired.
Vanessa: Me too.
Jacqueline: I think we’re all tired. How about we get KFC for dinner?
Grace: Sounds great.
Jacqueline: Let’s go.
*The roomies leave*
Jacqueline: *V/O* And that was the day Jacqueline and the Roomies were born.

(March 10, 1987)
Jacqueline, Grace, Vanessa, David and Adrian are sitting in the living room.
Grace: About this new roommate of ours that’s coming tomorrow, what is her name?
Jacqueline: She said her name was Tania Rodrigues.
Vanessa: I just hope she’s nice.
Jacqueline: She sounded like it on the phone.
David: Let’s make her feel welcome.
Jacqueline: I’m sure she’d like that.
(However, when Tania arrives the next day, she is far from impressed about her new living arrangements.)
Tania: And where am I supposed to sleep?!?
Jacqueline: You’ll be sharing with Vanessa.
*Tania rolls her eyes*
Vanessa: We’re going to have so much fun.
Tania: I doubt it.

(March 14, 1987)
That Saturday, Jacqueline and the Roomies planned to go to a coffee house in Darling Harbour. However, Tania refused to go.
Tania: Why should I go to some shonky coffee house when I can have perfectly good coffee right here.
*Grace loses it*
Grace: You want to know something Tania?!?
Tania: *coolly* And what’s that?
Grace: You are a f***ing bitch!
Tania: WHAT?!?
Grace: You heard me! Come on gang. Let’s leave the bitch on her own.
*they leave*
(When Jacqueline returns home later, she finds Tania’s bags packed.)
Jacqueline: Tania?
Tania: I hate living here. I will not be treated so inhumanely by a bitch like Grace. I’m going to find alternative accommodation.
*And with that, Tania stormed out of the house and into a taxi*
Jacqueline: *V/O* If you thought Tania was bad, then guess again. Our next roommate was a nightmare.

(August 17, 1987)
Yvette Howard arrives at the house.
Jacqueline: Hi, you must be Yvette.
Yvette: I sure am.
Jacqueline: I’m Jacqueline Forsyth and these are my roommates Grace Moran, Vanessa Freeman, Adrian Valiente and David Foley.
Adrian: Hi.
Yvette: So, who am I bunking with?
Grace: Me.
Yvette: I think you and I are going to be great pals.
(But after a few days, Jacqueline is not impressed with the mess Yvette leaves in the living room.)
Jacqueline: Yvette, may I have a word?
Yvette: Sure.
Jacqueline: I don’t like the messes you leave in the living room. From now on, I expect you to clean up your own mess. It’s not fair on me and the rest of our roommates to clean up your messes all the time.
Yvette: I’m sorry. I’ll try harder.
Jacqueline: Good.
*Jacqueline leaves*

(August 29, 1987)
In the early hours of the morning, Jacqueline and the Roomies are awakened by Yvette and an unknown male person laughing.
Yvette: I had fun at the nightclub.
*Jacqueline storms in*
Jacqueline: DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT TIME IT IS?!?
Yvette: Oh, hey Jacqueline. I’d like you to meet Chris. I met him…
Jacqueline: *to Chris* You go home!
*The man leaves*
Yvette: Why’d ya do that for?
Jacqueline: You are blind drunk for a start and it’s 3 o’clock in the morning!
Yvette: But the night was good.
*Jacqueline storms back into her bedroom*
Yvette: *shouting* You lot never let me have any fun!
David: *from his bedroom* SHUT UP AND GO TO SLEEP!
*Yvette passes out on the lounge*

(September 16, 1987)
Jacqueline holds a meeting with the rest of the roomies while Yvette is getting her nails done.
Grace: I cannot take Yvette anymore.
David: How many chances are you going to give her, Jackie?
Vanessa: Ever since she arrived, she’s been nothing but trouble. Her room is a mess, she always makes a mess and she always brings home random people from the nightclub.
Grace: Who did she bring home on Saturday night? Umm, Gordon? Gave poor Adrian a fright.
Adrian: Donna.
Vanessa: And who could forget the lovely Donna from Club 25. Used every swear word in the book, not to mention breaking my mother’s vase.
Jacqueline: If Yvette screws up again, she’s out.
Grace: But are you going to follow through with it?
Jacqueline: Oh, you bet I am.

(September 25, 1987)
Jacqueline finds a bag full of weed under Yvette‘s bed.
Jacqueline: Well, that’s it! She’s out!
*Yvette arrives back from Donna’s house*
Yvette: I’m going to Club 25 tonight, so I’ll just…
*Jacqueline throws the bag of weed at Yvette*
Jacqueline: Get out of my house, Yvette! RIGHT NOW!
Yvette: Jackie?
Jacqueline: I mean it. GET OUT!
Yvette: But…
Jacqueline: Yvette! I’m sick and tired of your room being an absolute mess! You live in a pigsty! And I’m also sick of you bringing home every man and his dog at all hours of the night! We’ve hardly had any sleep! So, I suggest you go back and live in Cabramatta with your parents! Cause I’ve HAD IT!!!!!
*Grace is laughing her head off in her bedroom*
Yvette: But they won’t take me back.
Jacqueline: Well no wonder because you do drugs! You are not welcome in this house anymore. I’ve already packed your bags, so take them and get out!
*Yvette literally bolts out of the house*
Grace: That was impressive.
*Adrian is giggling is head off*
Jacqueline: I’m sick of her. She’s gone for good this time.
Roomies: Thank god.

Jacqueline, Grace, Vanessa, David and Adrian are in the dining room.
Jacqueline: Roomies, I’ve been doing some thinking.
David: And?
Jacqueline: I don’t want to live in the city anymore. The rent is getting high.
Grace: But Jackie, you’ve had this house for three years now.
Jacqueline: I know, Grace. It’s just that it’s hard to pay the current rent due to the housing market crisis.
Vanessa: You can say that again.
*Adrian bursts into giggles*
David: Adrian?
Adrian: Who can we give the house to?
Jacqueline: She’s an old friend of Mum’s. Her name is Ann Sanders and she’s a news presenter.
David: You mean the one on Channel Seven?
*Jacqueline nods*
Vanessa: What does this mean for all of us?
Jacqueline: We’ll still be living together. Nothing will change.
Grace: Oh, that’s good. *sighs with relief*
Vanessa: Where are we going to live?
Jacqueline: I saw a house on the market at the estate agents in a place called Yabbie Creek. It’s in Summer Bay. Very roomy.
Adrian: Buy it.
Jacqueline: Then that’s what I’ll do.
(The next day, Jacqueline goes to Century 21 in Yabbie Creek.)
Jacqueline: I would like to buy this house. *points to Barbara Stewart’s old house*
Estate agent: I see. Is that the house you definitely want?
Jacqueline: Yes, that house will do fine.
Estate agent: I see. It’s $80,000.
Jacqueline: I can afford that. *signs the mortgage*

(October 2, 1988)
Jacqueline and the Roomies are unloading the last of their belongings onto the removalist truck.
Grace: Have we got everything?
Jacqueline: We sure do. *looks sad* I’m going to miss this house.
David: We’ve got no time to reminisce. It’s a long drive to Summer Bay.
Vanessa: Bye old house.
*Jacqueline and the Roomies get into the car*
Jacqueline: Goodbye city life.
*Jacqueline drives away, followed by the moving van.*
(At 10:00am, they arrive at their new home in Summer Bay.)
Jacqueline: Here it is roomies. Our new home.
Vanessa: It looks very nice.
Grace: So spacious.
David: Spacious?
Grace: Spacious means lots of space David.
David: Gotcha Grace!
Adrian: Will we have our own rooms?
Jacqueline: Of course we will Adrian.
Vanessa: I’m guessing the removalist men are late.
Adrian: They’re always late Vanessa. What do you expect?
Grace: How much do we have to pay in rent Jacqueline?
Jacqueline: $250 a fortnight.
David: Sounds neat Jackie!
*Adrian bursts into giggles*
Vanessa: Something funny Adrian?
Adrian: Oh nothing. *smiles*
Jacqueline: Well, how about we order a pizza from Pizza Hut for dinner tonight?
Grace: That sounds like a plan.
David: Yeah it does.
Jacqueline: We may not live in the suburbs anymore, but Summer Bay is perfect for us. Agreed?
Grace/David/Adrian/Vanessa: Agreed.
*Jacqueline smiles sweetly*
Jacqueline: *V/O* Things went okay for a few months, but with Jillian and Reiko arriving, we needed the extra space.

(March 4, 1989)
Jacqueline and the Roomies are having Pizza Hut for dinner when Jacqueline suddenly gets an idea.
Jacqueline: Guys?
Jillian: What is it, Jackie?
Jacqueline: Well…
Adrian: Spit it out.
Jacqueline: Let’s buy Morag Bellingham’s old mansion, the Blaxland.
Grace: What?
Jillian: Can you repeat that?
Jacqueline: Let’s buy the mansion.
*Everyone looks at each other in surprise*
Roomies: Great idea!
*Jacqueline smiles*
Jacqueline: It will be ready for us once we arrive back from Thailand.
Jillian: That’s great.
*they group hug*

Home and Away Episode #631: Room For Rent (Part 6)

(June 30, 1989)
Jacqueline is preparing dinner when Judy enters the mansion.
Judy: Hello?
Jacqueline: Judy?
*Jacqueline comes from the kitchen and sees Judy with two boxes and a suitcase*
Judy: Glad I’m away from goody-goody mother earth Midler.
Jacqueline: Didn’t it work out?
Judy: Nope. Is the offer to live with you still available?
Jacqueline: Of course it is. Your room will be next to Kimberley’s.
Judy: Thanks love.
*Judy organises her stuff*
Jacqueline: *V/O* Kimberley Joseph had also moved in with us. She was Reiko’s cousin. Super sweet and friendly. We also had our youngest roommate live with us as well. His name was Josh Anderson and he was so cool! Judy moving in with us was great because it was about time we had a mother figure as part of our roomie group. So, we were surprised when we listened to the news on Mars FM the next day.

(July 1, 1989)
The following morning, Vanessa turns on the radio to hear a news update on Mars FM.
Caitlin Street: It’s 10 o’clock. Good morning, I’m Caitlin Street. A new twist in the Yabbie Creek house fire with a 17 year-old girl charged with arson after telling police that she framed the girl police originally arrested. Rebecca Macey is accused of setting the home of Lori Bryant and her mother Judy on fire almost two weeks ago. Ms Macey told police that she framed Lori in an attempt to get away with arson. All charges against Lori have been dropped.
*Judy looks stunned*
Judy: Oh no. My poor baby. *looks sad*
Grace: What’s the matter Judy?
Judy: I accused my daughter of that arson attack and now I’m hearing that she didn’t do it. What sort of mother am I?
*Jacqueline and Kimberley comfort Judy*
Jacqueline: I’m sure you’re a great mother, Judy Bryant.
Judy: But where will she live?
Jacqueline: She can live right here with us.
Judy: Are you sure?
Jacqueline: Of course.
Kimberley: She can share a room with me.
Judy: Oh thanks. *smiles*
Kimberley: You best go pick your daughter up.
*Judy leaves*
(That afternoon, Lori arrives.)
Lori: Is this our new home? Cool!
Judy: I’d like you to meet Jacqueline Forsyth, David Foley, Grace Moran, Adrian Valiente, Vanessa Freeman, Jillian Corkery, Reiko Summers and Kimberley Joseph.
Roomies: Hey Lori.
Lori: Hey everyone. *to Kimberley* Are you THE Kimberley Joseph?
Kimberley: Absolutely. *smiles*
Lori: You are so awesome! I think you and I will become like sisters!
Kimberley: I like that! Your mum already sees me as a daughter.
Judy: Which reminds me, can you guys give me and Lori some privacy please? I want to talk to her alone.
Jacqueline: Sure thing Judy. *to the roomies* Come on guys.
*The roomies all leave the living room*
Lori: What did you want to talk about Mum?
Judy: I just want to say that I’m really sorry for accusing you of setting our old home on fire. If only I had known Rebecca Macey had set you up.
Lori: It’s okay Mum. I don’t hate you. You were upset.
Judy: I know, but I still feel guilty about it.
Lori: Oh Mum, come here.
*they hug*
Lori: So, what’s new with you?
Judy: I’ve decided to lose weight.
Lori: Good on you!
Judy: And I’ve also been making new friends.
Lori: That’s nice Mum. I’m really happy for you. *smiles*
*Judy smiles back*

(July 5, 1989)
At the Bayside Diner, Bette walks in.
Jacqueline: *V/O* I bought the Bayside Diner off Ailsa because I wanted to have my own business and make the diner more of a youth oriented place. This particular day, Bette Milder entered the diner and spoke about Judy. At the time, I thought she was bullying Judy, but the repercussions of what happened next would be a wake up call.
Bette: How is Judy’s weight loss going?
Jacqueline: Rather well. Why do you ask?
Bette: I was hoping that she’d FAIL! *laughs*
Jacqueline: *rather annoyed* Look Midler did you come to get something?
Bette: I’ll have a cheeseburger thanks honey. It’s a shame Judy won’t be munching on those anymore.
*Unfortunately for Bette, Judy hears that upon entering the diner for her shift.*
Judy: *to a boy with a banana milkshake* You finished with that?
*The boy nods and Judy takes his milkshake off him*
Bette: Judy Bryant will never be a success like me because I’M a star!
*Judy pours the milkshake all over Bette’s head*
Bette: ARGH!!! LOOK WHAT YOU’VE DONE TO ME!!!
Judy: Maybe next time you’ll think twice before picking on people Midler! Now vamoose!
*A humiliated Bette runs out of the diner as customers laugh*
Jacqueline: That was good Jude.
Judy: Sure was.
*Jacqueline and Judy high-five*
Jacqueline: *V/O* But Judy’s actions would cause Summer Bay to boycott the diner.

(July 8, 1989)
Jacqueline and Judy arrive back from the diner in shock and despair.
Jacqueline: DAMN IT!!!
Lori: Don't tell me you have scabs too?
*Lori and Kimberley roll on the floor laughing*
Jacqueline: STOP LAUGHING!!!
Judy: What is with this scabs business Lori?
Jacqueline: NOT NOW JUDY! DAMN IT TO HELL!
Vanessa: What's the matter?
Jacqueline: THE DINER IS BEING BOYCOTTED! BY THE WHOLE TOWN!!!!
Lori/Vanessa/Kimberley: Why?
Judy: *remorseful* Bette shot through after my stunt leaving Kierain behind and unfortunately Kierain didn't react well.
*all roommates glare at Jacqueline*
Jacqueline: Think about it guys. Bette was being a cow to Judy. Judy was only standing up for herself.
Lori: What did she say to you Mum?
Judy: Well…
Lori: Go on.
Judy: She was only kidding around with her jokes and I......
Lori: Were you being immature? *looks at Judy*
Judy: Well I tossed a milkshake at her.
Lori: So you were.
Jacqueline: *V/O* We had also inflicted the wrath of Kierain Geaney, who’s guardian happened to be Bette.
(That afternoon, Kierain is telling Jacqueline where to go.)
Kierain: YOU!!!! HOMEWRECKER!!!
Jacqueline: I'm NOT a homewrecker! Bette was making fun of Judy's weight, so when Judy walked in and overheard, Judy got upset and tipped the milkshake over her head.
Kierain: Oh you're not a homewrecker? So I just imagined Bette leaving?
Jacqueline: I feel bad that she's left, but that doesn't condone her actions towards Judy. I was bullied my whole life and I hate others that bully! I'm not sure that you understand what being bullied is like, but I sure as hell do! Think about that!
Kierain: YOU ARE NOTHING BUT A HOMEWRECKING HUSSY!!!!! YOU HAVE WRECKED MY LIFE AND YOU AS MANAGER SHOULD HAVE STOPPED JUDE FROM DOING IT!
Jacqueline: WELL, AT LEAST I'M NOT SOME RUDE LITTLE BRAT THAT THINKS THE WORLD OWES HIM A LIVING!!!
Kierain: SOME MANAGER YOU TURNED OUT TO BE!!!!!! IF THAT WERE EMMA YOU WOULDA BEEN ALL OVER IT BUT OH NO JUDE GETS AWAY WITH IT CAUSE YOU SHARE A HOUSE!
*Jacqueline storms out*
Jacqueline: *V/O* The boycott lasted for several weeks until Kierain and I finally sorted things out.

(August 20, 1989)
Jacqueline and Kierain are sorting things out.
Kierain: Ladies first.
Jacqueline: While I don't blame you or Faye for my car accident, I do believe that Reiko was out of line having a go at Faye like that. Elsewhere, it was wrong of me to not act out on Judy straight away when she tipped the milkshake on Bette. Judy has since quit from the diner and I reprimanded Reiko for her behaviour.
Kierain: I see. Are you also aware that Reiko tried to trespass on Faye's property?
Jacqueline: I wasn't aware of that. What happened?
Kierain: I came home yesterday and what did I see on Faye's car? "snobby bitch" ALL OVER it and this *shows her Reiko's name tag*
Jacqueline: I will make sure that Reiko apologises to you and Faye. I'm not having her behave like this!
Kierain: And what you said to me about being bullied. *shows her a year 12 class photo where he is outside the group while the others are in a big bunch.*
Jacqueline: And when you called me a hussy. *shows Kierain a police report from May 1986*
Kierain: I regret saying that to you. I really do.
Jacqueline: Shall we call a truce?
Kierain: I dunno. I’m pretty messed up since Darren died and so soon after Grandad but I’ll tell you something.
Jacqueline: What's that?
Kierain: If ANY of my mates get hassled in the diner, I’m going to hold you accountable as manager. Fair?
Jacqueline: And if I see anyone hassled, I'll be quick to put a stop to it. *smiles*
Kierain: You know we're both alike. I mean we've both survived car accidents where by rights we should have been killed.
Jacqueline: How many crashes have you survived?
Kierain: You remember the crash on Old Bay Road last year?
Jacqueline: Yep. That was dreadful.
Kierain: That was me. The car went under too.
Jacqueline: Oh. Any other crashes?
Kierain: Yes. Remember the one recently near the diner? Another underrun.
*Jacqueline gasps in horror and shock*
Jacqueline: So what happens now?
Kierain: The boycott is off.

At Summer Bay High on Monday morning, Misty storms over to Melanie.
Misty: I want a word with you!
Melanie: Oh, what is it now, Waters?
Misty: I want to know why you were prank calling me until 3 o’clock this morning.
Melanie: Why would I do that?
Misty: Because you can’t stand the fact that I’m close with Josh Anderson.
Melanie: You and Josh were finished the minute he went back to Mildura.
Misty: Oh, so is that why you flirted with him every time he visited the Bay?
Melanie: You’re a little girl, Misty! I’m a big girl!
Misty: I’m in Year 8, you dope!
Melanie: Well, I’m in Year 10. Beat that, loser!
*Misty shoves Melanie into the lockers before storming off*
(Elsewhere in the school, Chantelle is trying to enrol in Year 11.)
Chantelle: I just want to go back to Year 11. I regret dropping out at my last school.
Donald: I understand that, but there isn’t any point considering that it’s the last three months of the 1989 school year. Besides, Jack Tran and Rose Malouf aren’t your legal guardians.

*The woman gets out of her car and it’s none other than Ann Sanders*
Ann: Hello, Summer Bay.
*Ann heads inside the house*
Ann: This is the perfect holiday home.
*Ann inspects the house before making a phone call*
Ann: Yes, this is Ann Sanders. I’m renting this house in Summer Bay. It’s the perfect getaway from my daily stresses at work. You should come visit sometime. Okay. I’ll stay in touch with you. Okay. Bye. *hangs up*
*Ann smiles to herself*

When Kelly returns home that afternoon, she sits on the front steps and starts to cry.

That afternoon, Rhonda and the rest of her Year 12 classmates have finished their English HSC exam.

Lynn: They hardly communicate with each other anymore. Kellie and Amy are thinking of leaving school at the end of the year. It’s just all falling apart for me. *starts to cry*
