Home and Away Episode #385: It’s Magic! (Part 1)

Side Note: Two days pass from Episode 384

On Monday morning, a moving truck leaves the driveway of 382 Bayview Drive, which is next door to Tiago and Alice’s house. A mid-20ish couple, Dharma and Greg Montgomery stand outside their new home.
Greg: What do you think Dharma? Our new home.
Dharma: I love it Greg! It’s so sophisticated!
Greg: Do you think a four bedroom house is good enough for us?
Dharma: Of course darling! We’re about to have a child. *pats her stomach*
Greg: Only six months to go.
Dharma: I know. And moving to Summer Bay is one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.
Greg: Now if only we could make friends, that would be even better.
Dharma: Let’s head to the diner after we’ve finished unpacking.
Greg: Good idea sweetie.
*they kiss before heading inside their new home*
(At the Bridgewater Apartments, Nina is at Stacey’s visiting)
Nina: I’m seriously looking for a man.
Stacey: Why is that?
Nina: I don’t want to be known as just Nina Olivera - the woman who brought fame to today’s famous singing sensations. I want to settle down with some guy and have a family.
Stacey: You would have to give up a lot Nina. You would have to give up partying at all hours of the night, going to the hottest clubs and even worse, your hosting gig on The X-Factor.
Nina: I don’t mind that. But I’m still on The X-Factor this season unless Prime gives it the axe. I can still juggle family life and maintain my social status.
Stacey: That’s true.
Nina: I just wish there was a man that could love me.
Stacey: Just be yourself.
Nina: You’re right.
Stacey: They still haven’t found Sharni.
Nina: Really? I just hope she’s safe and well.
Stacey: I don’t understand it. I mean where could she be? She never misses paying her rent.
Nina: Meaning?
Stacey: Every Friday, I collect Sharni’s rent. She always gives me the right amount of cash. For her to skip paying rent is totally out of character.
Nina: I know. They better find her. She’s a nice girl.
*Stacey smiles at Nina*

During lunch break at Summer Bay High, Leanne decides to teach Jordan a lesson for his recent antics.
Leanne: HEY JORDAN!!!
Jordan: Oh hi Leanne. How are you?
Leanne: I’m doing WELL! I just wanted to give you something.
Jordan: What was that?
*Leanne punches Jordan’s stomach*
Leanne: THAT!!!! Let me make one thing clear to you Zarka. If you EVER hurt Heather or Tiago again, you are going to regret it! That’s your warning! *walks off*
*Jordan holds his stomach in pain as Larni and Rhonda walk past*
Larni: What’s with you jerk?
Rhonda: Larni!
Larni: I know he’s your foster brother, but he probably deserved what Leanne gave to him!
Rhonda: True that. *glares at Jordan before walking off with Larni*
Jordan: Girls…I’m sorry! *holds his stomach*
(Later that afternoon, Margaret is at her house when Kierain storms in.)
Margaret: Kierain? Are you okay darling? You look really angry.
Kierain: GRAN refused to apologise to me!!!
Margaret: SHE WHAT?!?
Kierain: That’s right! She blames everything on me! Like everything is my fault! *starts to well up*
*Margaret comforts him*
Margaret: That does it! I’ve had enough of your Gran treating you like this! I’m going to take matters into my own hands!!!

Margaret: I KNOW YOU ARE LOSING YOUR HUSBAND BUT KIERAIN IS LOSING A GRANDFATHER!
Coral D: I KNOW BUT I CAN’T DEAL WITH HIS GREIF AND MINE!!!!!
Margaret: THAT IS NO EXCUSE!!!! *Leaves*
*In the store Dharma and Greg meet loads of new people*
Dharma: what a nice store
Lisa: it is isn’t it?
Greg: so what’s to do around here?
Leanne: not a hell of a lot
Dharma: well there must be something
Frank: well there’s the diner
Leanne: one can not spend her life eating brother
Frank: true
*Daniela is talking to Tom and Lil*
Daniela: so I want to open a youth centre behind the diner
Tom: that’s a good idea
Lil: I’ll say
Tom: Kierain could have used that
Lil: Yeah the poor bastard
Daniela: have I missed something?
*Lil explains*
Daniela: BEATRICE!!!!!
*At the Wong house Mary talks to Nicole*
Mary: Nicole you’ve changed
Nicole: how so?
Mary: you’re rebellious
Nicole: I AM NOT!
Mary: you see?
Nicole: MARY DROP IT *Storms off*
*Jordan is at the beach when Heather appears*
Heather: Jordan
Jordan: buzz off
Heather: please?
Jordan: RACK OFF *Hits her then storms off*
*Nina and Samuelu are talking*
Nina: you’re pretty cool
Samuelu: you’re cool too
*Nina blushes*
Nina: Sammy….
*Karen Fischer sees from a distance and is NOT happy*
*Meanwhile Kierain boards a bus for Canberra*

In Canberra, Kierain gets off the bus where Erica is waiting for him.
Erica: Hello my love. I’m so glad you came to stay.
Kierain: I’m just over everyone’s crap at the moment!
*Erica hugs Kierain*
Erica: Why don’t you come in the car and tell me all about it.
*Erica wheels Kierain into her car which is a Datsun 120Y*
Erica: So what has been going on young Kierain?
*Kierain explains everything to Erica*
Erica: THAT HORRIBLE GRAN OF YOURS!!!!
Kierain: I know.
Erica: You’ll be in good hands here.
*Kierain manages to smile*
(At Erica’s house which is in the suburb of Wanniassa, she puts Kierain in front of the TV where the music to the local news is starting)
V/O: Prime Local News with Lisa Barry
Lisa: Tonight, the Prime Minister holds urgent talks to stop the asylum seeker crisis.
Another takeaway food shop robbery in Canberra’s north
And the Raiders suffer their third loss of the season.
Good evening. Also tonight, Cooma residents fight to save a 100 year-old oak tree. Police ramp up patrols at Westfield Belconnen. And the Dickson shops to get a major facelift. But first, Prime Minister Bob Hawke is holding urgent talks with his fellow ministers and the Opposition on how to stop the asylum seeker crisis in the wake of Thursday’s boat tragedy off Christmas Island. This afternoon, the PM and Opposition Leader John Howard decided to put politics aside and discuss the problem.
Erica: They’ll never stop those boat people.
Kierain: I feel sorry for them.
Erica: That’s because you’re lovely. But if you want to come to Australia, come legally.
*As Kierain and Erica keep talking, Lisa presents the next news story*
Lisa: There’s been yet another armed robbery of a takeaway food store in Canberra. McDonalds in Braddon was held-up by two men who burst into the store just after 4:30 this morning. One of the men demanded staff make him a burger, but when they did, the culprits fled empty-handed. Police are investigating the incident.
*Kierain turns off the TV*
Kierain: I’m going to bed. Night.
*Kierain goes into the guest room*

(Flashback to Kierain’s first buddy program where he meets Bea for the first time).
Kierain: Well this is a nice place.
Bea: Hello love!
Kierain: Who are you?
Bea: Bea Smith.
Kierain: I’m Kierain Geaney.
Bea: And are YOU my new buddy?
Kierain: Yes!
Bea: Well, I suppose it’s all good then.
*they hug*
Bea: *thinking to herself* Why did they give me this cry-baby jerk for? I wanted a REAL boy, not some wheelie bin!
(end flashback)
*Kierain wakes up in Erica’s arms*
Erica: Good morning love.
Kierain: Erica? I dreamed about Bea again. *starts to cry*
*Erica cuddles Kierain as he cries*

*on Thursday Kierain is at home alone watching “Beaches” when there is a knock at the door*
Kierain: goddammit don’t people know you’re not suppose to interrupt Bette Midler?
*Kierain opens the door to find Vika and Linda Bull*
Kierain: wait a minute I’ve seen you guys somewhere before
Vika: probably our fashion shows?
Kierain *suspiciously* no someplace else
*the ladies walk inside*
*Meanwhile Erica is in Woolworths shopping when she crashes into Lisa Barry’s trolley*
Lisa: WATCH IT!!!!
Erica: my mistake, aren’t you from the news?
Lisa: no duh Sherlock what gave it away?
Erica: can I have an autograph?
Lisa: do you promise to leave me alone if I do?
Erica: yes
Lisa: sure why not? *signs the Doritos packet*
*meanwhile Kierain has worked out who Vika and Linda are*
Kierain: I knew it! You were Bette Midler’s singing harletts
Linda: yeah say you don’t know where she is do you?
Kierain: sure I do she’s living in Summer Bay
Vika: oh so that’s where she went
Linda: hey before we go
*the ladies perform Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy*
Kierain: cool! Good luck with Bette
Ladies: thanks
*Back in Summer Bay a lady from Walgett NSW knocks on the caravan park house door*
Betty Wilson: hello? I’m looking for Coral

The next day (Friday), Betty arrives at Coral D’s house.
Coral D: Who are you?
Betty: I’m Betty Wilson. Are you Coral Drouyn?
Coral D: Who wants to know?
Betty: I’M ERICA DAVIDSON’S DAUGHTER AND I WANT TO KNOW WHY YOU ARE BEING MEAN TO YOUR GRANDSON!!!
Coral D: GET OUT OF THIS HOUSE AT ONCE!!!!
Betty: NOT UNTIL I’VE HAD MY SAY!!!! I UNDERSTAND THAT YOUR HUSBAND IS SICK, BUT YOU’VE GOT TO REALISE THAT YOU ARE HURTING KIERAIN IN THE PROCESS!!!
Coral D: HOW SO?!?
Betty: Why can’t you see the reason Coral? Why?
Coral D: GET OUT RIGHT NOW BEFORE I CALL THE POLICE!!!!
*Betty storms out of the house as Coral D cries*
(Back in Canberra, Erica has sent Kierain to the shops to buy some milk. She is reading a book while at the same time, having regrets about a decision she made during the buddy program)
Flashback to Bea and Kierain in Erica’s office
Erica: You do realise that you’ll be buddies right?
Bea: Of course Mrs Davidson.
Erica: Are you okay with that Kierain?
Kierain: Absolutely Mrs D.
Erica: Then it’s settled, you’ll both be buddies.
*A few days later, Erica hears that Bea smacked Kierain across the leg*
Erica: *crying* What have I done? I thought she was going to cherish that boy.
(end flashback)
Kierain: Mrs D?
Erica: Oh Kierain. Did you get the milk?
Kierain: Yes I did.
Erica: Would you like a hug?
Kierain: Sure.
*Erica hugs Kierain*

*Kierain is sitting in the lounge while Erica and Betty talk*
Betty: but mum you should tell him
Erica: but I asked you
Betty: you own the house
Erica: ELIZABETH!
Betty: okay, okay
*Betty walks into the lounge*
Betty: Kierain I have bad news
Kierain: what is it Betty?
Betty: your grandfather has….well he’s gone
Kierain: Gone? Gone where?
Betty: you know gone
Kierain: oh…. *looks sad*
*Betty hugs him*
*Coral D is crying*
Chrissie: Bette? What can we do?
Bette: nothing let’s leave her alone
*Chrissie Bette and Coral K leave the house while Coral cries*
Coral D: David
*in Canberra Kierain and Betty are snuggled*
Betty: it’s okay
Kierain: Betty?
Betty: shush *kisses him*

The next morning (Saturday), Erica has to go to a conference at Parliament House so she leaves Betty in charge of Kierain.
Erica: Make sure you mother him Elizabeth.
Betty: I will Mum.
Erica: I’ll be back at 3:30. Kierain’s in his room so go mother him.
*Betty nods and goes into Kierain’s room*
Betty: Hi possum.
Kierain: *sadly* Hello Betty.
*Betty sits on the bed*
Betty: Let it out darling. It’s all okay.
*Kierain bursts into tears*
Betty: Come here love. *gives Kierain a hug*
Kierain: Why is this so hard?
Betty: Death is a very painful thing.
Kierain: Tell me about it. *sobs*
*Betty rocks Kierain*
Betty: *singing* You are a lovely boy who cares about everyone.
*Betty continues to rock Kierain as he cries*

Meanwhile, Coral D is having thoughts of her own.
Coral D: *V/O* YOU ARE AN UNGRATEFUL BRAT KIERAIN!!! HOW DARE YOU BE SUCH A PEST!!!
Kierain: *V/O* I was only trying to help!
Coral D: *V/O* GO AWAY!!!! I HATE YOU!!!!
*Chrissie enters the room*
Chrissie: Coral?
Coral D: I’m sorry about my treatment towards others. *breaks down*
*Chrissie hugs Coral D*

Sally: all I said was…
Kierain: I HEARD WHAT YOU SAID!
Carly: everyone calm down
Kierain: don’t suppose Tom knows I’m back? Or that Grandad’s dead?
Carly: yeah he does
Bobby: but he’s really busy
Kierain: figures
Steven: ease up on Tom he’s upset
Kierain: Yeah and I’m not?! Gran’s not? Or Bette or Chrissie?
Frank: yeah Steve geez
Steven: Alright I’m sorry
*Erica meanwhile is applying to study law again*
Erica: there application sent I hope I get in
Betty: you will mum
Erica: where is Martin setting up then?
Betty: Summer Bay in fact I better head down now
Erica: ok love watch over Kierain
Betty: I will mum *kisses her then leaves*
*Coral D and Kierain are hugging each other*

On Tuesday afternoon, Nicole is smoking outside the surf club with Candice and fellow Dolphins member Meaghan Wood.
Meaghan: I SO hate Miss Lopez! What a bitch!
Candice: Miss Coleman’s even worse! *mocking Patricia* Oh let’s get our workbooks out children.
*Meaghan laughs*
Nicole: You know which teacher I hate? Mr Fisher!
Meaghan: Did you hear that Candy? She hates Flathead!
Candice: I’m REALLY impressed Nikki. Have another smoke.
*Nicole smokes the cigarette as Dharma and Greg are walking past*
Dharma: Hey girls.
Meaghan: WHAT DO YA WANT?!?
Candice: Meaghan! That’s not very nice! *to Dharma and Greg* Got a problem with us smoking?
Dharma: No. We just wanted to say hello.
Greg: That’s right.
Candice: Oh. Hello then.
(Once home, Dharma and Greg decide to talk about Candice)
Greg: Those girls seem like they need help from the youth centre.
Dharma: I know aye. Especially that homeless girl Candice Stokes.
Greg: How do you know her name?
Dharma: I saw her at the diner earlier today and she was telling one of her friends that she’s homeless.
Greg: She’s probably exaggerating. Most of today’s teens do that to get attention.
Dharma: Her, I’m not so sure. We should try and bond with her.
Greg: How?
Dharma: We could ask her over to our place tomorrow afternoon.
Greg: I like that idea.
*Dharma smiles*

In nearby Yabbie Creek, Betty and her cousin Martin Kelly and his family are moving into a house.
Betty: I love the feel of this place.
Martin: So do I.
Simon: It’s so yucky.
Debbie: Tough. We’re living here now. I just hope Yabbie Creek High is better than Chatswood High.
Betty: I hear it’s got a good reputation.
Martin: With you on that one Betty.
Debbie: Say where’s Jenny?
Martin: She decided to live with Aunty Jeanette back in Chatswood.
Debbie: Just hope the Year 10 students are good.
Simon: Glad I finished at Chatswood High.
Debbie: DON’T RUB IT IN JERK!!!
Betty: All right kids. That’s enough. Let’s make the most of Yabbie Creek. *smiles*
(At the Wong’s House, Nicole is in the living room when Mary walks in)
Mary: Hey little sis.
Nicole: Mare-Mare! I just want to say that I’m sorry for my behaviour lately. I’ve just been trying really hard to fit in at school.
Mary: I understand. All is forgiven.
Nicole: Really?
*Mary and Nicole hug. All of a sudden, Mary holds her stomach in pain.*
Nicole: Big sis?
Mary: Get Mum and Dad! My water has broke! *breathes heavily*
*Nicole runs to get Kim and Victor as Mary continues to make short breaths*

(Meanwhile Debbie arrives at Yabbie Creek High and is lost)
Debbie: excuse me?
Anahera Brown: yes?
Debbie: where's the art room?
Anahera: this way follow me by the way I'm Anahera Brown

*the girls head to the art room*
*At the Fletcher's Heather tells Lil and Tom what Jordan did to her*
Tom: HE WHAT?
Lil: HE'S BEYOND GROUNDED!
