Home and Away Episode #199: Home is Where the Heart is (Part 1)

The next day, Miss Molloy arrives at the Fletcher house with their new foster child Rhonda Sheridan.

Miss Molloy: Here we are.

Rhonda: Look at this place. It’s so fashionable.

Miss Molloy: I’m glad you think so Rhonda. Shall we go inside?

Rhonda: Lets.

*Miss Molloy and Rhonda go inside*

Pippa: Hello Miss Molloy. *to Rhonda* And I presume you’re Rhonda Sheridan?

Rhonda: Yes I am. Hello.

Miss Molloy: This is Pippa Fletcher, your new foster mother.

Rhonda: And you told me there was a Tom Fletcher as well.

Pippa: Tom’s at work, but he’ll be home before dinner. And all the kids will be home after school. *smiles*

Rhonda: It’s a shame I had to leave home because I had a lot of friends in the city.

Pippa: You might know some people that came from the city.

Rhonda: Like who?

Pippa: Mary Wong and Leanne Morgan for example.

Rhonda: Mary Wong? Does she have a sister named Nicole?

Pippa: Yes. She’s friends with my youngest daughter Sally.

Rhonda: OMG! Me and Mary were best friends in primary school. That was until she went to Civic High at the beginning of Year 7. I went to Sydney Secondary College in Glebe. We just lost contact after that.

Pippa: That’s a shame.

Rhonda: I just hope she remembers me.

Miss Molloy: I’ll leave you two to get acquainted.

Pippa: Before you go Miss Molloy, can you tell me where Frankie and Rosie went?

Miss Molloy: Frankie’s been sent to a foster family in St Albans while Rosie’s been sent to a family in Bowral.

Pippa: Thanks for that Miss Molloy.

*Miss Molloy walks out*

Rhonda: Can I watch the TV? I might watch Another World.

Pippa: Sure. The TV is free to watch. *smiles*

*Rhonda turns the TV on to find the end credits of Another World*

Rhonda: Oh darn! I missed it.

*Rhonda leaves the TV on to find a Southern Cross News update air*

V/O: Now your local Southern Cross News.

Elyce: Good afternoon. Elyce Kolder with a local news update. Police have called for our help to find missing Summer Bay girl Barbra Piers. She was last seen leaving a friends party at the local community hall in April 1985. Barbra’s parents say they’ve been agonising for her to come home ever since her disappearance.

Meanwhile, the case of missing Mangrove River girl Geri Weaver seems to have taken a huge turn. A witness told police that they seen the 16 year-old walking towards Parramatta McDonalds last Wednesday afternoon. Miss Weaver last seen waiting for a bus in May this year. Police think she had a fight with her boyfriend.

At the general store, Maggie is looking at the laundry detergent when she sees Doris and Betty walk in.

Betty: Hello Margaret.

Maggie: Betty. How are you? *kisses Betty on the cheek* Doris.

Doris: *frosty* Hello.

Betty: We’re just on our way to Celia’s for coffee.

Maggie: That good-for-nothing floozy. All she does is…me-me-me-me-me-me! *mocks Celia’s gossiping*

Doris: That she does.

Maggie: I say, you ought to hear what she says about Betty’s daughter.

Betty: What did she say about Tracey?

Maggie: “She’s a good for nothing tramp! She hasn’t got any friends. No one liked her that’s why she moved to Brisbane.”

Betty: That rotten woman!

Doris: She say anything about me Maggie?

Maggie: You were a top of the list. She said “Doris has no class. She’s an old stickybeak.”

Doris: Is that right? Well, we won’t be going over to her place for coffee!

Betty: Thanks for telling us Margaret.

Maggie: Oh, no problem.

Betty: Come on Doris. Let’s play bowls over at Yabbie Creek.

Doris: Let’s do that. Bye Maggie. *walks out of the store followed by Doris*

*Maggie smirks with victory*

(Later, Celia is on the phone to Ailsa)

Celia: I just don’t understand why Doris and Betty didn’t show up. They always come for coffee.

Ailsa: Maybe they had other plans.

Celia: I see. Well, I hope they come soon. Bye Ailsa. *hangs up the phone*

*Celia looks sad*

After school that afternoon, Kierain decides to spend time with Bernadette, Mary, Melissa and Judith at the diner.

Bernadette: How’s it going over at Reefton Lakes?

Kierain: Good. You should come over some time.

Mary: We will do that no worries.

Melissa: I wonder where Leanne is?

Judith: She said she was going to the beach.

*Rhonda walks inside*

Mary: I don’t believe it.

Kierain: What is it Mary?

Mary: That’s Rhonda Sheridan. She was my best friend in primary school.

Judith: Did she go to high school with you?

Mary: No. She moved to Glebe and went to school there. I went to Civic High.

Bernadette: I just hope she remembers you.

*Mary goes over to Rhonda who is paying for her milkshake*

Mary: Hi Rhonda!

*Rhonda turns around*

Rhonda: Mary Wong?

*Mary nods her head*

*Rhonda and Mary then squeal with delight and then hug*

Rhonda: How have you been?

Mary: I’ve been great. I didn’t know you moved here.

Rhonda: I came this morning. I live with a foster family now.

Mary: Who?

Rhonda: Tom and Pippa Fletcher.

Kierain: So you’re living with my foster parents?

Rhonda: You live with them too?

Kierain: Used to. But now, I’ve moved into my own place at Reefton Lakes. I’m Kierain Geaney by the way.

Rhonda: Okay cool.

Mary: So I guess I’ll be seeing you around. *smiles*

Rhonda: That’s true.

Mary: I’d like you to meet Bernadette Willows, Melissa Adams and Judith Staples.

Rhonda: Hey guys.

Bernadette/Melissa/Judith: Hey.

Mary: Have you met Carly and all them?

Rhonda: Yeah I did. They’re nice people. *smiles*

Mary: I’m just glad to see you back.

Rhonda: Me too. *smiles*

Kierain: You wanna come to Reefton Lakes sometime?

Rhonda: I’ll keep that offer in mind. Thanks. *smiles at Kierain*

*Kierain smiles back at Rhonda*

At the beach, Leanne is continuing to have her way with Steven.

Leanne: I didn’t know you were so athletic Steven. You’re really skinny.

Steven: Thanks.

Leanne: I bet your old girlfriend didn’t do this.

Steven: Do what?

*Leanne massages Steven’s shoulders*

Steven: That feels good.

Leanne: Frank and I have a cousin that owns a massage parlour. She taught me how to massage.

Steven: Oh I see.

Leanne: Want me to stop?

Steven: Please.

*Leanne stops massaging Steven*

Steven: Leanne. I just want to say that you’re a nice girl.

Leanne: Why thanks. I was wondering…

Steven: What? What are you up to?

*Leanne kisses Steven who tries to get away. As they do, Roo comes out of the diner and witnesses the whole thing*

Roo: *to herself* You stupid girl.

Steven goes to see Frank at the beach house after leaving Leanne.

Frank: Hey Stevo.

Steven: Hi Frank.

Frank: Did you just come back from the beach?

Steven: Yes.

*Frank realises something's wrong*

Frank: You okay mate? You seem flustered.

Steven: Leanne’s trying to get intimate.

Frank: Intimate? I thought you guys were friends.

Steven: Yeah. But she wants….bed.

Frank: I don't understand what's with her. I mean ever since she arrived, she's been smoking and she flirting with you. I just don't get it.

Steven: Me neither.

(Roo drags Leanne into Alf and Ailsa's house)

Leanne: What's going on Roo?

Roo: You tell me!

Leanne: Why did you drag me away from the beach?

Roo: I saw you messing with Steve in the diner.

Leanne: We're just friends. Am I not allowed to have friends in this town or something? *lights up a cigarette*

*Roo takes it from her*

Roo: Listen to me! I played mind games with boys and got hurt!

Leanne: Like who?

Roo: Your brother!

Leanne: You used to go out with Frank?

*Roo nods*

Leanne: Oh. *walks into her bedroom*

At the Wong's house, Mary and Rhonda are talking about their old high school friends.

Rhonda: There was this girl named Sabrina Lewis that got detention on the very first day of Year 7! What was Civic High like?

Mary: It was okay. I used to get heaps of racism, but…

Rhonda: That's funny. I heard it was a friendly multicultural school.

Mary: I was the only Asian girl in my class in Year 7 and 8. Things died down at the beginning of Year 9. What was Sydney Secondary College like?

Rhonda: Oh god, it was so bad.

Mary: Why?

Rhonda: The teachers were so slack.

Mary: My teachers were okay. I hear you and Sabrina Lewis were quite good friends.

Rhonda: Yeah we were until she left.

Mary: Where did she go?

Rhonda: She changed schools. She’s now in Brisbane.

Mary: That's a shame.

Home and Away Episode #207: Take a Chance (Part 1)

Leanne is in serious trouble of Alf and Ailsa for her behaviour towards Celia.

Alf: HOW DARE YOU SLAP YOUR FOSTER AUNT!!! CELIA IS A HUMAN BEING WITH FEELINGS YOU KNOW!!!

Leanne: She’s an old gossip that can’t keep her mouth shut!

Ailsa: She TRIED making peace with you love. Instead, you just slapped her in the face.

Leanne: It was well deserved!

Alf: I DON’T CARE IF IT WAS WELL DESERVED OR NOT!!! AS LONG AS YOU LIVE IN THIS HOUSE, YOU’LL DO AS YOU’RE TOLD AND RESPECT YOUR FLAMIN ELDERS! IS THAT CLEAR LEANNE?!?

Leanne:*mumbling* Yes.

Alf: WHAT WAS THAT?!?

Leanne: Yes Alf!

Alf: Good! Now, get to your room!

*Leanne rolls her eyes*

Alf: YOU HEARD ME! GET IN THERE!

*Leanne storms into her bedroom and slams the door*

Ailsa: Love…

Alf: I’ve had a gutful of her behaviour Ailse. I’m telling you if she causes anymore problems, she can live with Tom and Pippa!

Ailsa: But Alf…

Alf: And I’m not changing my mind either! *walks into the kitchen*

*Ailsa sighs heavily*

On Wednesday morning, Bobby is getting ready to go to Barbra Piers’s funeral.

*Pippa enters the bedroom Bobby shares with Carly and Rhonda*

Pippa: Are you okay to go?

Bobby: Of course. Melissa said that she would meet me at the church.

Pippa: Do you want me to come for moral support?

Bobby: No. You stay and look after Kierain.

Pippa: Are you sure?

Bobby: Trust me. *smiles weakly*

*Bea enters the bedroom*

Bea: It’s okay Pippa. I’ll look after him while you go to the funeral.

Pippa: Bea, I really must…

Bea: Go support Bobby love. I’ll take care of young Kierain.

Pippa: Okay. *to Bobby* You ready to go?

Bobby: Yes.

Pippa: Thanks for that Bea.

Bea: Anytime. *smiles*

*As Bobby and Pippa go downstairs, Rhonda waits for them.*

Rhonda: Bobby?

Bobby: Yes Rhonda?

Rhonda: I just want to say that I’m sorry for your friend dying the way she did.

*Bobby starts to tear up*

Bobby: Don’t be. *hugs Rhonda tightly*

Rhonda: Stay strong.

Bobby: We will. Bye. *leaves the house followed by Pippa*

(At the church, Bobby sees Melissa and Judith with Jill Walker)

Bobby: Hey.

*Melissa runs over to Bobby and hugs her while crying*

Melissa: It’s just not fair Bobby. Why did it have to be her?

Jill: I don’t know Mel. Whoever did must’ve had it in for her!

Judith: All I can think of are Alyce Davis and Vicki Baxter.

Bobby: They’re not the type that kill people.

Jill: I’m so glad that Barbie’s parents now have closure.

Melissa: That’s true.

Judith: Shall we go in?

*The girls along with Pippa enter the church*

In the city, Mary and Adam are at Central railway station waiting for a train to take them to Parramatta.

Mary: This is going to be so much fun.

Adam: I know.

*the train station DVA goes off*

V/O: The next train to arrive on Platform 18 goes to Parramatta via Penrith. First stop, Redfern, then Strathfield, Lidcombe, Auburn, Clyde, Granville, Parramatta, Westmead, Seven Hills, Blacktown and then all stations to Penrith.

Mary: That’s what I miss about the city. Trains and buses taking me everywhere. *sighs*

Adam: Doesn’t Summer Bay have a bus service?

Mary: Well, there isn’t a train service in Summer Bay and the buses only come once an hour.

Adam: That must suck.

Mary: It does. But I’m getting used to it.

Adam: You know what I’m going to miss about Civic High?

Mary: Our friends and the teachers that helped us.

Adam: Not only that, but those Year 7 guys that always hung out with us.

Mary: Are referring to Alex Oloaga’s group of friends?

Adam: Yeah I am. They’re really nice.

*the train arrives*

Mary: About time the train comes.

*Mary and Adam get on the train and sit on a seat in the top carriage*

Adam: I bet you miss this now.

Mary: I do baby.

*Mary and Adam kiss as the train departs*

At around 12:50pm, a tall brown-haired woman parks her Holden Barina near the Fletcher’s house.

Lynne: Summer Bay House….

*Lynne knocks on the door*

Fliss: Coming! *races downstairs and sees Lynne outside* Who are you?

Lynne: I’m Lynne Marshall. I’m here to see Bea Smith.

Fliss: Parole officer?

Lynne: No, I’m her sister.

Fliss: She’s not here at the moment. She went for a walk with my foster brother. Would you like to come in?

Lynne: Sure.

Fliss: I’ll just turn the TV on. *turns the TV on*

*Lynne sits down on the sofa and watches a Prime Local News update*

V/O: This Prime Local News update is brought to you by Red Rooster.

Anita Baltovska: Good afternoon. Hundreds of people attended the funeral service of Summer Bay girl Barbra Piers this morning. Tearful family and friends described the 15 year-old as “loving” and “a friend to everyone”. Ms Piers disappeared after leaving a friend’s party three years ago and police are treating her death as suspicious. We’ll have a full report tonight at 6. Also, police and protesters clash at Mangrove River over a decision by Busways to cut off all buses in the area after a spate of attacks. A woman fronts court over a high speed chase through Valencia. And professional wrestling makes its way to Reefton Lakes. I’ll have more news in an hour and join Natalie Forrest for all of today’s local news tonight at 6.

Fliss: That was my foster sister’s friend.

Lynne: Who?

Fliss: Barbra Piers.

Lynne: Gosh. That poor girl.

*Pippa arrives home with Bobby*

Pippa: We’re back. *notices Lynne* Hello. Who are you?

Lynne: I’m Lynne Marshall. I’m here to see my sister Bea.

Pippa: She’ll be back in a minute.

Fliss: How was the funeral?

Bobby: Devastating. It was so sad to see everyone crying.

Fliss: Come here.

*Bobby hugs Fliss*

Bobby: I hope whoever did it rots in hell.

Fliss: Same.

*Bea and Kierain arrive home*

Bea: We’re back.

Lynne: Hello Beatrice.

Bea: Lynne! How are you love? *gives Lynne a huge hug*

Lynne: I’m good thanks. When did you get paroled?

Bea: A few weeks ago. I’m thinking of getting a new parole officer though. The current one I have is a no-hoper.

Lynne: I recommend Erin Brockovich.

Bea: Isn’t she a lawyer?

Lynne: As well as a parole officer. *smiles*

Bea: Oh Lynne! I forgot to introduce you to my buddy Kierain Geaney. Kierain, this is my sister Lynne Marshall.

Kierain: Hi Lynne.

Lynne: Hello there. It’s nice to meet you at last. Bea has told me all about you.

Kierain: I’m sure she has. *smiles*

Lynne: I’ll phone Erin and see if she can be your parole officer.

Bea: Thanks.

*Lynne goes over to the phone*

Kierain: Does that mean no more Paul Reid?

Bea: Yes.

Kierain: ALL RIGHT!!! *launches his fist into the air*

(At the Lifeline shop, Celia is gossiping with her new best friend Darlene Lewis)

Celia: What do you think about the bingo night down at the RSL Darlene?

Darlene: Sounds like fun. By the way, are you still talking to Doris and Betty?

Celia: No. They won’t talk to me and I don’t understand why.

Darlene: They’re not worth it Celia. Betty and Doris have always been petty and mean.

Celia: That reminds me of something I seen yesterday. I seen that awful Bernadette Willows and Lyndsey Collins together.

Darlene: Maybe they were just hanging out.

Celia: I seen them kiss.

Darlene: Kiss? As in kiss on the lips?

*Celia nods*

Darlene: Excuse me for a second. *goes over to the phone and dials a number* Shall I spread the word?

Celia: Yes. We must stop gay relationships in Summer Bay.

Darlene: Hello Doris. It’s Darlene Lewis here. I’ve got some interesting news for you.

At Parramatta, Mary and Adam are walking around the local Westfield shopping centre.

Mary: I’ve had so much fun today. I don’t want to go back home yet.

Adam: Well, we’ve explored Parramatta all day. I was thinking that when we got back home, we would…*whispers in Mary’s ear*

Mary: I’m not too sure Adam. We’ve been dating since Year 10.

Adam: Trust me Mary. If you don’t want to, that’s perfectly fine.

Mary: I’ll think it over during dinner. *smiles*

Adam: Cool.

*Mary checks the time on her watch*

Mary: Holy Moses! It’s 4:30pm! We’ve got to get the train back to the city.

Adam: We sure do. How about a cheeselovers pizza for dinner?

Mary: Sounds great.

*they kiss*

Adam: I love you.

Mary: I love you too.

*they kiss again*

(That night, Alf and Ailsa are talking in the living room.)

Ailsa: Has the house been smelling of cigarettes lately?

Alf: Not that I know of. Why do you ask Ailse?

Ailsa: Because I’ve been smelling it in the bathroom and in the kitchen.

Alf: Are you saying that Roo or Leanne smoke?

Ailsa: Either that or I’m smelling things I shouldn’t.

Alf: If I find out that people have been smoking in this house, there will be hell to pay Ailse.

*In her bedroom, Leanne is smoking a cigarette as she listens to Alf and Ailsa’s conversation*

Leanne: I’m so over living here. Too many rules. And as far as apologising to that old gossip Celia Stewart goes, I’m not going to do it.
