Overrated:

Irene: I think a lot of people are going to be chocked now, but Irene is an overrated character in my opinion. She is supposed to be the "mother of Summerbay" of the moment, but we almost never see her give advice to the youth she gives home, never teach them about life and get angry at them when they do something wrong, With other words - we never see her doing things like mothers are supposed to do. And people are shouting all the time about giving her storylines - and then they mean storylines like the one with Corey and this year - Lous murder... Hmmm ... And everytime they are doing storylines like that, they are ruining her character - she moves further away from the one she's supposed to be -- a good foster mom.

If this had been in reality she never would have been allowed to house kids...

Surely that means she is underrated? That is who Irene was pre 2005, now she isn't used for that purpose anymore, as it all happens off screen - therefore that makes her underrated I would have thought.

I'd prefer Irene not have any major storylines at all and be the character she was pre-2005 than be underrated and have nothing to do but serve coffee and have 1 major storyline that lasts a couple of episodes and then doesn't affect the character whatsoever after one AA meeting we didn't even see - yeah I think I'll always be bitter about that mess of a storyline. She does seem to be getting more screen time out side of the diner recently though so that's a good thing.

Yes, I think she is overrated, thats what I said and thats what I mean! But my not-so-good English may sometimes be difficult to understand...

I think she is ovrerated the way she is now. she has a lot of screentime, and when she is doing something it is not what I want her to do. All the people here think she was great in the alcohol/who killed Lou storyline earlier this year. I think it was dreadful. It destroyed her character even more! And the horrible storyline with Corey a few years ago. She is supposed to be "the mother of summerbay" now, but is she?? Because the storylines she has, and what she is doing is never showing that. And after Geoff dropped out of school, did she react like a mother should do?? She was just moping around (yes she had lost Belle, but at least she could talk to him) she is so horribly moody.

Okay...taking "overrated" to mean characters that are popular with a lot of fans or the production staff but I don't really like and "underrated" to mean characters that I like but a lot of fans or writers seem to either dislike or be indifferent to:

Overrated: Aden(glad I wasn't the first to say it), Belle, Gina, Colleen(hardly in it and it's still too much...)and sadly Ruby's going that way too.Tempted to say Romeo but I don't actually know many people who like him.

Underrated: Jai, Annie, Melody, Miles(spent too much of the year arguing with Kirsty because no-one can write happy couples anymore)and Irene(as other people have said, the main problem isn't that she doesn't have any storyline it's that she isn't involved in anyone else's either).

Charlie is at the top of my overrated list, I don't tink her acting sometimes is up to scratch at all. Especially during the whole rape/revenge Grant storyline it was like she was trying too hard to act and it just looked so unnatural and very cringeworthy. She tries to pull weird faces when acting out an emotion and it comes out all wrong.

I don't agree with those saying that Martha is an overrated character, I think she has improved so much over the years in her acting ability , which was more than evident during her

break up with Hugo

where in my opinion Jodi really shone. She can do crying and upset very well.

I think Rachel & Tony are underrated and its like they are in a lower league kind of thing to most other characters and not given the same limelight as others. Although they have been involved in some storylines this year but it was like they we're only giving them storylines out of obligation and the storylines didn't seem much important.

Leah,Irene,Alf and Colleen are extremely underrated . We saw how much of a fantastic Lynne Mcgranger was during the episodes surrounding Lou's death and in particular the scenes where she was quizzed by Angelo. Lyn Collingwood showed she could do dramatic very well during the Johnny Cooper stabbing sally storyline , especially when he held her hostage. But they always have to have a village fool don't they

I completely agree with both your overrated and underrated lists.

I think Kirsty is actually a very underrated character to be honest, herself and Miles we're quite an underrated pair along with the other most underrated couple in the bay - Tachel. Its like these 2 couples aren't/weren't as important as the younger couples in the bay ie Adelle, Annie&Romeo, Ruby&Geoff.

I think Colleen is an underrated character, but only sometimes. Most of the time I hate her. I can't help but wonder why all the residents are so fond of a frequently spiteful gossip. But whenever she's allowed to be serious and do something else, Lyn always nails it. I loved her when she was trying unsuccessfully to get through to Kirsty after the miscarriage.

Overrated: Martha! Although I love Charlie I would still class her as overrated. Jack was really overrated too. Belle, Aden, Nicole.

Overrated:

Rachel and Tony - I'm just not into them. I used to love Rachel when she first came but she turned into this whining character. Tony just doesn't do it for me, I don't know why. He just irks me.

Martha and Hugo - I'm a little sick of them both. Well Hugo never did it for me, he just can't captivate me with his character. I used to love Martha but after Jack's death I feel like her character is lost somehow, only romantic storylines.

Geoff - I didn't like him from the start. At first he was so into football, then into religion. Then with Nicole he had this no-sex-relationship point and ended up having sex with her and later with Claudia. He's good at the theory but he really doesn't stand behind his beliefs. I think he's fast to judge others but can't judge himself.

Angelo - What is he doing there? The brought him in, left him in, still in but he's annoying and that stupid grin. He doesn't really have a past. When they brought him in I was sure he'll be out in no time because he was like temporary character or background character, I can't believe he's still in.

Liam - omg what is he doing here so long? Not really pleased with his acting skills, isn't suitable for this rock-god-druggie role. Just totally off character.

Underrated:

Roman - I know he's gone but it doesn't stop me whishing they would bring him back somehow. He was the perfect dad and a perfect friend, I did hate a little the rambo storyline they wrote for him but he was so good with being there for Aden and Nicole and for his friends. I thought he was a great binding-character between different storylines. I was so sad when they wrote him off. I loved his calmness and the way he analyzed situations. He was my absolute favourite character.

Alf - he's great. I love love love him. I love that he's a lil grumpy but he mostly has a valid point. I love how he always says: flamin ... flamin .... love him. They should use him more.

Joey - she's out but they could have used her a lot more. There are only hetero relationships but the real world is a little different. They could have used that gay relationship aspect a little more.

Morag - I love her. She's smart, quick, great sense of humor, she knows how to make people behave and think, she's a blessing to the show. I hate that they don't use her.
