Overrated and underrated characters.

Charlie is at the top of my overrated list, I don't tink her acting sometimes is up to scratch at all. Especially during the whole rape/revenge Grant storyline it was like she was trying too hard to act and it just looked so unnatural and very cringeworthy. She tries to pull weird faces when acting out an emotion and it comes out all wrong.

I don't agree with those saying that Martha is an overrated character, I think she has improved so much over the years in her acting ability , which was more than evident during her

break up with Hugo

where in my opinion Jodi really shone. She can do crying and upset very well.

I think Rachel & Tony are underrated and its like they are in a lower league kind of thing to most other characters and not given the same limelight as others. Although they have been involved in some storylines this year but it was like they we're only giving them storylines out of obligation and the storylines didn't seem much important.

Leah,Irene,Alf and Colleen are extremely underrated . We saw how much of a fantastic Lynne Mcgranger was during the episodes surrounding Lou's death and in particular the scenes where she was quizzed by Angelo. Lyn Collingwood showed she could do dramatic very well during the Johnny Cooper stabbing sally storyline , especially when he held her hostage. But they always have to have a village fool don't they

Always thought Jack was really overrated.

Leah & Irene are underrated, can't think of any previous characters off the top of my head for this one...

I class characters who are overrated as those without a decent character arch or follow threw and are used consistently for the more shallow type storylines, whereas those characters that tend to get the more 'deep' storylines, the ones that affect their character arch in the long run, tend to be under rated in the current format of Home and Away.

Overrated:

Nichole - because she is at the forefront of the drama, yet that drama (Imo) most of the time, is superficial stuff she will be over with in the next weeks lot of episodes. I see her as a ratings character who gets all the boring stuff. I did like her in 2008 though.

Aden - from somewhere in 2009. Whilst he's always been a major character, I definitely didn't find him overrated because I thought he was written really well and deserved to be at the forefront - now he has become really repetitive and doesn't seem to have evolved at all, he has become predictable and I don't want to see him doing the same thing over and over again week in week out, taking up 70-80% of the screen time.

Angelo - I don't get the character, dont know who he is what he is about or anything, yet he's been on screen for over a year and I've seen more of him every week this year than I have, say.. Romeo, whos been in the show all of a few months, yet I feel I know and what to know more about him. Angelo's just badly written.

Martha - Its a shame because sometimes I really like the character but then she gets all the crappy repetitive romantic storylines again and again and again, all the time and it takes up way too much screen time. If the writers concentrated on her as a character, NOT in a relationship, and she was used as much as she is now, then she wouldn't make my list.

From the past its the same kinda characters for the same reasons - any that take up 80% of the screen time storyline after storyline that don't ever move on or are inconsistent or get storylines revolving around anything but romance after romance without anything meaningful in between- I'd call them all overrated.

I'll come back with the underrated

Overrated:

Charlie: Not a good actress, over-the top storylines, and she is in almost every storyline. She has had more storylines than

characters like Belle had in 3 years (and some people here think that she was overrated)

Martha: far too many storylines, they can't do anything new with her. But she has become slightly better through the last year.

Irene: I think a lot of people are going to be chocked now, but Irene is an overrated character in my opinion. She is supposed to be the "mother of Summerbay" of the moment, but we almost never see her give advice to the youth she gives home, never teach them about life and get angry at them when they do something wrong, With other words - we never see her doing things like mothers are supposed to do. And people are shouting all the time about giving her storylines - and then they mean storylines like the one with Corey and this year - Lous murder... Hmmm ... And everytime they are doing storylines like that, they are ruining her character - she moves further away from the one she's supposed to be -- a good foster mom.

If this had been in reality she never would have been allowed to house kids...

Ruby: she's like a mechanical doll. Too hyper and without real emotions.

Angelo: why is he in Summerbay?? Is it because the actor is good looking?? I think everything is wrong with his storyline, even if he didn't shoot Jack. He should be in jail, he has done everything wrong in his job, used his badge to get into a girl (Belle, after Adens breakdown - he shouldn't have been comforting her like that - unprofessional), swapping samples from the developement site etc.

underrated:

Aden: Yes, I think people are going to be chocked now. As I can see from other post like Alexx above, thinks that Aden is overrated because he is repetative and is taking about 80 % of the screentime, and the problem started this year. I certainly don't agree, because I think he is underrated as a character of himself, he hasn't actually taken 80 % of the screentime since Belles death!!! He had 2 months where he hardly was in it!! After he got together with Belle everything became about her and the relationship. He just "return" to the screens straight before the cliffhanger - when he got together with Nicole. And that is probably the reason why some thinks he is repetative - we have already seen him in a relationship and being angry all the time. And a lot of people just think that Aden should have left with Belle, and thats also a reason why I think that he is underrated as a character of himself. Because the character of Aden (and all the other characters too of course)himself is more than a love-relationship!!

Leah and Alf: I think somehow Leah is underrated, but she has been in the show for 10 years now and she had a lot of screentime and love storylines and I think its fair that the longstay characters have less storylines than those who are in the show for just 2-3 years. But I think it would have been nice if she had more motherstorylines (like the one with VJ and the bullies) and also talk more to all the other characters. Actually Irene, Leah and Alf are so important with their small storylines at the pub or in the Diner, they create the real community feeling that way. I think esp. Alf and Leah are underrated because people don't see their importance in what they are doing at this time. It is important that we have some characters who build brigdes between people, who knows all of them and being a friend in the Diner or at the pub. they don't need a big, dramatic love storyline or a stalker one to prove their importance in the show!

Annie and Jai (I know jai is gone, but): they were normal teenagers! A lot of the others during the past years have been acting older (when it comes to relationships etc) than their characters are supposed to be. I don't think it is normal for a 17 year old to have a sex-life and the view on the subject as Nicole had or Belle or Cassie. I think that Jai and Annie are the only one who has acted like 15-16 year olds in a long time; since the days of Nick, Jade and Seb. But a lot of people thought they were boring. And I think that is just because they didn't do anything. they could have done a lot of things without being in a serious relationship, ex. school projects, thoughts about life and family - they both are orphans and so on.

But I see that it is to late now, Jai has gone to Japan and Annie changed just before she left and became just an another typical summerbay teen girl.

Surely that means she is underrated? That is who Irene was pre 2005, now she isn't used for that purpose anymore, as it all happens off screen - therefore that makes her underrated I would have thought.

I'd prefer Irene not have any major storylines at all and be the character she was pre-2005 than be underrated and have nothing to do but serve coffee and have 1 major storyline that lasts a couple of episodes and then doesn't affect the character whatsoever after one AA meeting we didn't even see - yeah I think I'll always be bitter about that mess of a storyline. -_- She does seem to be getting more screen time out side of the diner recently though so that's a good thing.
