Red Ranger 1 Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 Bit worried that almost all the names that sprang to mind are from the last few years.I'm forced to conclude that either my memory's not that good or I've grown more intolerant in recent years or they've had a lot of rubbish characters recently.But here's the list: 1.Aden Jefferies.Yes.Sorry.Predictable.Thought I'd get it out of the way.I do worry about writers who take a character they've been writing as an unrepentant bully, give him a tragic back story so we'll like him, have him behave even worse than when he was a bully and expect us to be on his side.Except that most people were which I guess means it worked.To me, a lot of the time he's a jerk, most of the rest he's barely tolerable and occasionally, like the Joey storyline, I like him a bit but could easily lose him. 2.Xavier Austin.What's he there for?He's either annoying or boring and brings nothing to the teen group except giving Jai another boy to talk to and Ruby someone to throw herself at(which doesn't show her in a good light). 3.Jack Wilson.The only 20th century character I could think of, included largely because he inspired the same feelings as Aden.I'd think he was a jerk, then he'd be all right for a while and I'd start to like him, then he'd behave like a jerk again.In the end, I decided I'd tolerate him as long as he behaved himself but I'd never really like him. 4.Cassie Turner.Probably wouldn't have been so annoying if she wasn't so good some of the time, she seemed like a Mini Sally at times, wanting to help everyone but her track record in men...Aside from Ric, I hated all her relationships.(Ironically I would have liked her and Alex but that never got going.) Henk was the worst:This girl who'd been abused herself found out her new boyfriend had raped one of her friends and pretty much went "Well, she'll just have to put up with it."A willing abuse victim who was pretty much beyond help.(A couple of years ago, I'd have included Martha in the same category, for the past two years, I've often filed Belle there.But I quite like Martha now and Belle would be okay if they kept her away from Aden.) 5.Jules Munro.What was the point of this character?If he'd only been there for a few weeks he might have been bearable but he was like a cockroach, every time you thought you'd got rid of him he'd turn up again.It was an endless cycle:He turns up, he does something wrong, Drew covers for him, Belle gets cross, Dan and Peter find out and throw him out, return to start.The only time I liked him was when he was with Lily but then she left before anything really happened.And he got together with Cassie despite them supposedly detesting each other.(See above and indeed Belle and Aden.) I was thinking of giving honourable mentions to any Overly Macho Idiots...but then I'd have to list every male character on the show.But standing out are Scott Hunter, Kim Hyde, Jack Holden and Hugo Austin.Great guys most of the time but far too hot-tempered.
MasterHolden Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 1. Rhys Sutherland - He was too strict for my liking. 2. Dani Sutherland - This girl was a bad influence to the Summer Bay Teenagers. 3. Martha Holden - Sorry, but her character went downhill since Jack Holden died. 4. Hugo Austin - To be honest with yers, I never liked Hugo since day 1, there's something about him that creeps me out 5. Annie and Geoff Campbell - These two are the worst pair of hypocrites I've ever seen. Others include: Sam Tolhurst Melody Jones Charlie Buckton Shelly Sutherland
Oipoodle Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 Nicole- I just can't warm to her-shallow, cruel,self centered and I find her pretty dull. Xavier-pointless Henk and Kane - absolutely vile they were rapists for goodness sake what were they thinking? Duncan- I really couldn't stand him found him more believable when he was nasty. Amanda/drews mum(sorry blanked on her name)- pretty much the same character nasty and cruel and again couldn't feel any pity for them so wasn't really interested in them. I prefer when they do an Angie type were the characters is nasty and get's their due and then leaves rather than trying to make out that these vile people are decent deep down. I agree about Cassie she was one of the most frustrating characters I always wanted them to make her realise how strong she was that she deserved more.
titch1983 Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 I cannot believe no one has mentioned Beth. She has got to be one of the most irritating characters to have entered the bay. I celebrated when she was killed off! Other characters i didn't care for were Mumma Rose ( what was that about), Melody (too whinny), Henk and Macca (Cassie definitely knew how to pick them) MOD EDIT: Offensive language and negative comments about actors looks removed - both are against the rules.
