1. Martha Holden - utterly vile, just unbearable in every way, and to be honest, a bit of a tramp.

2. Jack Holden - a complete idiot.

3. Geoff Campbell - so judgemental, so full of his own self-importance, also a total hypocrite.

4. Drew Curtis - angry all the time, always thought he was right about everything, didn't care who he hurt as long as he got his own way.

5. Rhys Sutherland - he could never control his temper, and constantly tried to control his kids instead of be a proper father.

Other hated characters include:

Hugo

Xavier

Jai

Tony

Miles

Nicole

Belle

Kane

Lucas

Brad

Robbie

Scott

Hayley

Seb

Max

Jude

Damian

Obviously this is a very subjective thing. People will post the five characters they like the least rather than them necessarily being bad characters. For instance one of mine would have to be Vinnie because I detested him, however as a character I suppose he was quite good.

Others in no particular order:

Joey Rainbow

Edward Dunglass

Damian Roberts

Melody Jones - although she finally got some depth for me in her final episodes

Sally Fletcher - never really understood what she was supposed to be about, other than someone who just happened to be there from the beginning. I presume it is hard to have a child character for whom the only criteria is usually to be a cute child, and then try and write some sort of character for them. Usually characters are brought in having been plotted out in advance. I always felt Sally struggled to fit, at least up to her last couple of years anyway.

That's interesting to me because other than Melody, you've listed character I felt had an enormous amount of character depth to them Imo, they weren't the typical boring run of the mill soap cliched characters, they were quite unique and flawed ''people'' who didnt revolve around romantic troubles to create tension and emotion, instead they covered mental illness, emotional disorders, cravings to belong and find there place in society, loneliness, venturing, dependability, physical illness (MS) to name a few - but they were strong characters that had great mate ships that are memorable to me - Damien and Angel especially, never once had a romantic element to it, just plain old best mates who were there for each other ON screen.

I think the show lacks having these sort of refreshing more grounded and inventive characters these days.

My least favorite - pretty much all come from the past few years because they were written horribly such as Cassie, Hayley, Belle, Matilda, Henry, Amanda, Martha (although she has so much potential to be a great memorable character, the writers give her garbage storylines that turn her into an annoyance), Jack, Tony, Lucas, Scott...

Exactly. I agree with all you have said there and that is precisely my point. You can have fantastic characters who people just don't like. The question isn't really going to get people listing bad characters, but rather characters they dislike. All the ones I listed (apart from Damian and Sally) were very, very good characters, but I couldn't stand any of them.

I have never particularly liked Sally either, perhaps it's when I started watching, but I sometimes believe that's because I started watching and by the 00's she no longer had a storyline, things were just happening to her.

Yeah - I think I tend to see a character as a writers creation, so usually go straight to the writers if I dislike a character because its usually due to poor writing, little consistency.. If I think a character is written well, then I'm usually quite open to going with them and watching their journey. It's like Matilda, I think she could have been a really good character, but they didn't write her very well, it was sloppy and inconsistent, therefore I ended up disliking the character because that's all I knew of her (the inconsistencies..)

On the flip side, Hayley; she was written ok I guess, in terms of character development, but I was disinterested in her storylines because they were all really bland and monotonous, going from boyfriend to boyfriend and romance - thus she came across as a rubbish character to me - but I can appreciate that the writers kept her rather consistent and true.

Rhys Sutherland He could do ONE face... ANGRY! Nice one, FOOL! He's just a general idiot!!

Sam Holden Stupid *****! Hated her when she was sweet & innocent and hated her wven more when she was utterly vile!!

Kim Hyde Grrr.. Young, pathetic, stupid d***!!

Barry Hyde Arse!!! Same as Rhys... boring, bland, pointless! Brought in just to lie his way out of the show.. Bye bye!

Lily a pathetic pointless waste of screen time, followed by a useless attempt at acting!!

So, i've been a *****! :) Enjoy :P
