Saddest Moments

I thought Ailsa's death was one of the worst and most unemotional. The funeral episode when Alf and Duncan scattered her ashes was great and so was the scene Shauna and Alf spoke about how little they knew her - but other than that I thought they missed the mark greatly and the character deserved far better.

But I like how everyone at the funeral was crying.

I hated the funeral. I just remember it feeling so rushed, They didn't bother making any effort bringing people back. Did they even do flashbacks?

She was the 4th longest serving member, If you look at the effort the went to for Dons, and Sallys exit, Alisa's feels like such a slap in the face. I do think they made the right choice in killing her off (breaking up A+A wouldnt have been right) but it was so poorly handled.

Also it's not in Ailsa's character to leave Summer Bay like Alf and Irene.

I know Sally just left Summer Bay after 20 years but she was young.

I always wondered if Ailsa had stayed on the show where would Irene have ending up working?

As I doubt they would have Irene working in the Diner if Ailsa was still there.

^They didn't do flashbacks during the funeral episode but they had a few flashbacks during the Shauna/Alf scene I mentioned earlier. Another thing that I didn't like about the aftermath was how during the wake Sally and Leah are jumping up and down laughing with excitement about Leah and Vinnie's relationship, it just didnt seem right at all, espeically as Ailsa was supposed to be closest to those two out of the younger cast.

Totally agree. Judy Nunn even admitted that she was quite upset on how the writers wrote her out. I do miss Alisa. Hard to imagine its almost been like 10 years :(

Hmm, don't know what to say about Ailsa's death.Sad is perhaps the wrong word but, if you overlook the rushed plotting of her keeling over about a week after it's established she might have a heart condition, despite not being bothered by it for the past 50 years, it's one of the darkest and, if you don't know it's coming, most shocking deaths ever.I think the fact you never actually see her dead, if I recall correctly, adds to the impact, just that agonised look on her face as she realises what's happening and Alf and Duncan's reactions.I think it was good because sometimes death is abrupt and sudden, not emotional death bed scenes. But perhaps someone as central as Ailsa was the wrong character and deserved a longer departure storyline.

I think the actual funeral was good, with Donald and Shauna's speeches and most if not all of the cast there.I don't think they really needed to bring anyone back, her husband and her children were there, she had no other close relatives, there was no need to drag Pippa or someone in just for the sake of it.Perhaps the fact they skipped the immediate aftermath and came back with the funeral contributed to the impression of everyone drying their eyes and getting on with things a bit too quickly. It did seem to have a lasting affect on Duncan and Shauna and, even when it was being repeated two episodes a day, Alf's depression seemed to go on forever.

(And let's face it, her funeral episode was nowhere near as big an insult as Michael's...)

Ohh, I've never heard anyone say that before! What's your opinion on Michael's funeral episode?

I thought the actual funeral was great:Pippa's voiceovers, Alf's speech, Sally breaking down giving the reading...And the previous episode, with the aftermath, the beautifully underplayed moment where Steven tells Pippa they've found his body and her hug with Liam at the end, is probably one of my favourite episodes ever.My gripe was that someone apparently thought the funeral of arguably one half of the show's chief couple wasn't enough to hold the viewers' attention, so they included a pointless and inappropriate hostage drama with Curtis and Chloe being held prisoner by Chloe's druggie mother and her psycho boyfriend.Even at the age of seventeen or so when it was shown here, I thought that showed a huge lack of respect for the character.
