Hi!

I might be heading to Palm Beach next week to watch them film! Just wondering if anyone else may be heading there? This will be my first time so excited! :D What is the best way to get there drive or public transport?

This is an answer I've provided a few times, keep meaning to either put it on the site or in a pinned thread at some point:

It is indeed possible to visit ‘Summer Bay’ – the town is Palm Beach and it’s about 40km north of Sydney.

Here you will find the beach, the Surf Club and the Pier Diner/Seaplane Wharf – however other locations such as Tony’s house, the wharf and the old Diner are scattered throughout the Northern Beaches. You can view more information on all the locations on our site here: http://www.backtothebay.net/locations/onlocation/

If you’re going to be heading there by car, then there is a little ‘tour’ type guide here which will take you around a few different locations, though its a little bit out of date for some of the newer locations http://www.backtothebay.net/locations/onlo...uickroute.shtml

If you’re going to head there by Bus, then you’ll be wanting to catch the L90 bus from Wynyard Bus Station in Sydney (or Railway Square, whichever is easiest). They run very regularly and will take you right to the beach itself. It would be best to allow around 2 hours for the bus journey.

If you head to this site: http://www.sydneybuses.info/ - then you can use the ‘Quick Search’ dropdown box on the right to select ‘L90’ and then view both a map and timetable for the service. There are a few stops in Palm Beach, the first main one is in the central hub of Palmy where you’ll find Barrenjoey House, the shops and the ferry wharf. You can get off here if you wish to take a look around, but be aware that the beach/surf club etc. is on the other side of the hill, and it can be a bit of a walk!

On the other side of the hill is the best place to get off the bus, just next to the Golf Club on Beach Road. From here there’s 2 small roads that go up the peninsula, taking the left one will lead you to the Barrenjoey Boathouse and Seaplane Wharf (which you’ll know as the Pier Diner), and the right road will take you past the Surf Club and along the top of the main beach – both roads have various paths in between them so it’s easy enough to see everything.

However if you miss this stop then it doesn’t matter, as the bus drives down the length of Palm Beach and terminates at the bottom end next to the new Ocean Place complex (marked Ocean Road on the timetable), which has a couple of cafes/shops. From here you’re fairly close to the swimming pool which has been seen quite often over the years, then you can take a walk back up the beach to the Surf Club area (you may be amazed by how long the beach really is!)

If you want to try and catch the H&A crew then your best bet would be to head up there between Monday – Wednesday as that's the most likely time for them to be filming on location (the weekend is a definite no for filming as the beach is extremely busy) However it cannot be guaranteed that they will be there as they may well be filming on location in another area.

I'd personally recommend driving to give you more flexibility

If you drive, then I recommend you drive up. The bus can be a nightmare and one time broke down when I was on it and it ended up taking three hours to get there.

Driving is probably better also in that nowadays, as you don't know when / what times they're filming, it'd be nice to be able to come and go as you please, and not be hanging around waiting for buses :)

Oh God be with the days, as they say in Ireland. All of us replying in this thread have had the joy of Palm Beach, and now all of us (I'm assuming) are back in rainy ol' Ireland/England and it all seems like dream.

Enjoy Palm Beach anyway! :)

Yeah, seems like so long ago the last time I was there, happy days!

You can park on the beach, at either the surf club side or Diner side. Not sure about dircetions but it is the most northerly of the Northern Beaches. Just head over the Harbour Bridge and follow the signs for the Northern Beaches. After a while you will probably see signs for Barrenjoey Headland and that;s the direction you want.

You can get directions on that quick tour link I posted - just make your way to the Pittwater Road (Highway 10) from Sydney which turns into Barrenjoey Road (Highway 14) at Mona Vale, and follow it all the way up - it's impossible to miss Palmy as its the last beach.

There's tons of parking around Palmy, though most of it is pay and display.

As I mentioned in the above post - after passing through the main hub of Palmy where the ferry wharf and Barrenjoey Boathouse is, you'll go up a large hill (click here) - coming down the other side you'll have a couple of tight turns and you'll end up here.

If you take the road just past the zebra crossing, (or the one after which takes you straight to the Surf Club) that takes you down towards the 'Pier Diner' - this road goes up a hill just past the 'diner', and loops back around towards the Surf Club, as you can see, there's absolutely loads of spaces to park along that whole road.
