Dan F Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Someone has just pointed this article out to me - all of a sudden the Kirsty/Jade/Laura switch seems all the more believable! http://www.smh.com.au/world/mistaken-ident...90403-9lc4.html
Eli Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Ooh, interesting reading, thanks for posting! I always found that storyline to be the kind of storyline that's good TV because it theoretically, but yet not realistically could happen
Ryan Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 In retrospect though, it wasn't that although it was unlikely, though not implausible, that damaged the storyline, they were actual major problems with the execution of the storyline, at least in my mind.
Posy Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 I remember a similar story reported last year (in the UK Times newspaper) from the Canary Islands. Again there were identical twins and another baby. The identical twins were accidently separated after a mix up at the hospital when they were born. One (Laura) was sent to the wrong family, while the other (Kirsty) and the baby from the other family (Jade) were brought up as twins although they were unrelated. They were teenagers (I think) when the mistake was uncovered when a friend of one of the true twins happened to meet the other true twin and couldn't understand why she didn't seem to know her!
Barbara Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 Thanks for posting that article Dan! I read a similar story a few years ago. The child who wasn't one of the twins got sick. It turned out to be some kind of genetic disorder (I can't remember which one). The parents thought it was weird as there wasn't any record of that disorder in their families. The child had some blood tests done and that's how they found out there was something wrong. It must be really hard for the children/teenagers and the parents when they find out something like that.
DinerLandlord Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 That storyline was such a non-event. It was revealed that Laura was the real twin, then Jade went a but mental and then left, and nothing was ever done with Laura. They should bring Laura back now that Kirsty is back. They wouldn't have to pay another actor at least!
ter06 Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 I think I was one of the few people who actually loved that story. It was such a good twist. I agree that Laura should come back though. Christie played them both so differently, she was fab in that story.
Laura Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 I remember reading a story like this. It's weird reading that it actually does happen. I liked the storyline aswell, but it could have been better. And I would love for Laura to come to the Bay.
Red Ranger 1 Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 Whatever the storyline's flaws, I think it was probably the first original soap storyline in years and should be applauded for that.Especially since almost every other soap has done the "baby swap" story since then and they've all been inferior.
Slade Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 Original it may have been but the fact they even did the story in spite that way back in 2000 Kirsty was able to sense where Jade was during the landslide, because they shared a psychic bond which was attributed to them being twins was in itself a massive continuity error. The whole twin swap storyline was essentially introduced for the specific purpose of writing Jade out the show. It would have been more believable if the writers had gradually made her life fall apart and so she decided to make a fresh start and perhaps go back to the city and live with Shelly (even though she felt closer to Beth at the time).
